    I have to wonder if anyone else out there recognizes the genius on display when Greg Koch is on screen! So glad he didn't choose piano!

      I just discovered Greg tonight on doing a thing at NAMM. Just jaw droppingly good. Now, I've got to dig deep and study what he's doing. Thankfully he seams to be a great teacher. So many good players just don't teach well.

    • @theanthonyv
      @theanthonyv 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wait, really, you have to wonder..?!? There’s like 15 years of TH-cam and guitar media hysteria about Greg Koch. His name shows up all over the place at NAMM, on The Gearpage and many other music places. People have been praising him for a long time - by the thousands or tens/hundreds of thousands. I think it’s safe to say other people recognize his genius. The man can play.

      Ian Ritchie Stewart yes he’s had dvds out for many years years before wildwood guitars. Why has it taken you so long to recognize him and I’m betting you don’t know a lot of great guitarists. Research!!! Mato Nanji from Indigenous, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jeff Healey, Hiram Bullock, I really hope you know Clapton by now and obviously Hendrix, Doug Rappoport, kingfish, tons of session guys. Rafael Moreria, Doyle Bramhall 2, I hope SRV, I hope you know more than Mayer. Ben Poole, Dan Patlansky, Walter Trout, Gary Moore. Tons, tons and more tons. Expand those horizons. Eric Gales, Marcus King, Kirk Fletcher. 🙄look around.

    • @robertwellington2616

      theanthonyv agree. It’s ridiculous. He’s been around forever. You have to wonder what are these guys watching?

    I'm 67 yrs old Rock and Metal musician ...Greg's sharing demo's are always "therapeutic!" (especially this one)...Jimi was always looking for a healing in chords. This is ZEN!

      Axis bold as love (the entire album) is LOT MORE than the just opening riff to title song. For me people who talk about Hendrix DO NOT KNOW Hendrix unless they can play the songs on guitar. Back in the 80s guitarist covered hey Joe ‘purple haze ‘voodoo child maybe ‘lil wing’ if your lucky …But NO ONE covered of ‘Castles made of sand’ . And when they covered ‘little wing’ they just played around the chords. No one played ‘double stops’ rhythm blues chops like Jimi did in rock music. Nobody Jimi took muddy waters style up another NOTCH. These lil chord inversions tricks’ making them work in positions ‘rock guitarist hadn’t thought of at that point.. Double stops EXTREME. During the 1960s it was extreme. Johnny winter said he NEVER seen anyone play acoustic like Jimi. (Not the s’*’* we have of Jimi on film playing acoustic (white background Jimi playing 12 string.) SUCKS! That’s nothing Hendrix is on acid in that clip. I can tell the was he’s talking to camera guy, (shy) The feeling when acid first effects come on. The reason no body hears the thegreatness of Jimi’s guitar on axis is because Hendrix lost original master recoding before album released . Noel and Mitch with Jimi had one’ day to re - record most of the songs. According to Mitch the FEEL was gone. Hendrix wouldn’t have released Axis so soon if it was up to him.

    it's clear that Jimi was from another world.... it's still magic listening to this stuff so many years after his death, but playing THIS in the late 60's when NOONE played anything remotely similiar on an electric guitar.... just HUGE!

    As with countless others, Hendrix is the inspiration and sole reason why I wanted to learn how to play guitar. My level of Hendrix worship exceeds just playing guitar to all out, no holds barred, hardcore, die hard collector of all things Hendrix unrelentingly for roughly a 15 year span. It's also proven to be quite extensive and not to mention expensive, accumulating 150+ Hendrix CDs alone, over half of which are rare originaI silver pressed factory "Imports". With guitar playing experience going on 35 years, one thing I've neglected learning is Jimi's brilliantly beautiful and phenomenally genius chord phrasing style. In reading the headline for this latest video, I was more than pleasantly surprised to say the least. It is without question, a carefully detailed and superbly executed invaluable lesson, which again, has inspired me and countless others to learn, master the techniques, and ultimately put my own improvised ideas and thoughts into. Thank you Greg, not only for this particular video but every.. single.. one. You sir, are unmatched in every possible known aspect of all things guitar. Rite on & rock on!!!

      Supersonic Nomad I'm sure you have a wonderful collection but it doesn't beat mine. I have over a months worth time wise of Hendrix recordings. Every concert, every studio session, every different source of said concerts. merges of concerts, individual Multi-Tracks of studio songs as well as live concerts, ect. Anything that is available and even some things that aren't actually available on the black market. I've got good sources and connections of people who worked with Hendrix himself or work in the Experience Hendrix offices now.

    Another great Jimi technique breakdown, it's not easy to tell what Jimi was doing most of the time. There has always been a mystique around how Jimi played and got his sound and tone. He had influences from the earlier days of rock and played with some greats back then also. Fantastic video.

      James Holmberg idk. Have u heard of Chris Duarte, Mato Nani from Indigenous, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Doug Rappoport, I mean the list goes on forever. Greg’s been around long enough for me to have his learning DVD’s. Research and broaden out those horizons. If ur only listening to John Mayer maybe? You’re truly missing out. Btw Hendrix got a lot of his his stuff from buddy guy and as Greg said Curtis mayfield and made it into his own. I just hope u know who SRV and Clapton are.

    • @jamesholmberg3158
      @jamesholmberg3158 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Too funny! If I was only listening to John Mayer...I'd have to shoot myself, ha ha. In fact I don't listen to him at all. I've heard of everyone you mentioned except for Mato Nani. I saw Johnny Lang(I'm a Minneapolis native) and Kenny Wayne Shepherd live ironically at Experience Hendrix in a small theater here. I also saw Buddy Guy at the same theater and followed him around the theater when he did his "Walk-Around-While- Playing" thing,(I think he really digs that wireless gizmo) until his body guard started getting weirded out by me so I returned to my seat. Hendrix also credited The 3 kings, as he called them, Albert, Freddie, and B.B. for a lot of his influence. Oh and I love SRV, I also have his brother Jimmie's Signature Strat with the Texas Special Pick-ups and I love to say that Stevie was the only guy that could play Hendrix, better than....Well..Hendrix. At least on Little Wing. Ohhh! He just CRUSHES that song! F*** yeah! I grew up listening to Jimmy Page, Hendrix, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Cream, etc..Oh, and cant forget Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Ed King and Steve Gaines from Skynyrd shit And Allman Bros and................................................................................................................................But Hey Man, thanx for looking out for a fellow axe-meister and I'll have to check out Chris Duarte, Mato and Doug Rappoport and you should check out Justin Johnson, if you are not familiar. Cool Cat!

      @andrewjackson9654 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Holmberg yea I just saw this a year later. Didn’t mean to come across as an ass but I think I did. Sorry. It’s just a matter of taste and I guess research and remember magazines? So as I was growing up I think that’s really where I got my info because in a magazine you can’t help but see everyone as you go thru the pages. Stay safe man and again sorry.

  • @grantgre
    @grantgre 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is interesting to note that a strat played straight thru any generic amp will not give you those crazy overtones . The amp used in Hendrix's time was the sound that he could get which I suspect was mostly in the studio. I could not emulate it at the time. ??/ I wondered why his sound was so different if I had same guitar. The difference I see now is really the overdrive that Mr Koch is using which is a pedal effect, probably the amps effect in Jimi's time. This breaks up the sound overtones. Koch usually puts a pedal reference in the Wild Wood videos. Also, Jimi's sound was different in Concert setting...a lot more dry and harsh. So this is the sound from Axis bold as Love or electric lady land!
