At around three minutes it sounds more like an organ than any guitar I have ever heard. Koch is OFF THE HOOK. Best electric guitar player in the world. Next!
I watched one the other day he says “ and the chicken takes flight!” Even if I wasn’t a guitar player tryin to cop his stuff, I’d be watching cause he is entertaining AF!
i own the same guitar and i highly recommend it ! quite expensive but you'll never get rid of such an instrument, it's comfortable and sings like a dream. from country to metal it can play anything ! (fender american tele deluxe ash)
They are not too bad but most use terrible quality heavy ash which results in the guitar not being as resonant as it could be. I sold mine and put together a partscaster instead: much better.
The drummer is looking at Greg and thinking, "This guy is out of his mind." He has no idea what Greg is doing or how but he knows it's amazing. Watch His face. He's just confused and certain Greg is off his rocker. And he's right. What a guitar player.
He’s wondering if he’s going to get paid and if it’s enough to buy some of whatever Greg is on...and he is probably thinking “ Greg is either a genius, completely insane or both”. I go with both. 🤪
Eliot, totally agreed! I just stumbled upon him via the Wildwood Guitars demos & seriously, he's so funny (and oh yeah, a way inventive picker too) I'm watching his 'Wood demos every day now. EVERY demo i learn somethin' new & get the humor boost to boot.
Much as I really do love Greg's playing..I'll tell ya -there alot of guys who can play on the same level as him..usally they are in higher education music academies. but they are out there.
Wondering how many in the audience speak English fluently enough to have any idea what he's saying. The drummer has the look of a guy who does not have any idea what he's saying but smiles at appropriate times when he realizes that he's said a joke.
"nine people don't like poultry".... that line gave me the giggles for a week! must have been the beer... Don't get me wrong, I love Greg's stuff. Anyway, thank's Pisstake, that was just funny as hell!
Its really easy to do this type of picking on telecasters. while its fun, its really simple with some 9 strings low action. you dont see many people doing this type of speed with technique on other types of guitars but when you do its amazing. I myself love to pick these blazing licks style, but for a real challenge try it on a lespaul.
+scott ha I guess it's a matter of preference, to me I can't make a tele sound anything good tone to me, i can throw 11s on it and it still sounds like a banjo into a tin can
yes its really pathetically easy right? care to share how easy it is? anyone can say"this is easy" but it is entirely another matter to actually do it. sorry but im calling bullshit, and my bs meter is very seldomly wrong, give it a rest. i think the roids are effecting your ability to comprehend reality, this is not easy AT ALL.
I agree Greg) What a pain in the ass it was to learn . I used to put a quarter on the needle head to slow the recorded down and have to tune lower. The beer we drank out of frustration from learning now from a scratched record from learning licks scales Arpeggios)
i'm such an ass for not liking this guy when i was younger. .. this is utterly fantastic - both on a playing level and a teaching one... even if you're not interested in chicken pickin'
Greg this is in my opinion the best taught, shown, demonstrated and explained method and technic for chicken pickin I've ever heard
At around three minutes it sounds more like an organ than any guitar I have ever heard. Koch is OFF THE HOOK. Best electric guitar player in the world. Next!
Almost think that these days...
I love this guy. Great teacher and an even better player.
“From there the chicken is born”, Greg has some of the best one liners I’ve heard
I watched one the other day he says “ and the chicken takes flight!”
Even if I wasn’t a guitar player tryin to cop his stuff, I’d be watching cause he is entertaining AF!
watching Greg never gets old
Greg Koch is a monster guitarist! One of the best in the world!! And he is a very nice man to boot!
Tele wrangling, Stratocaster manipulation, and Les Paul contortions. Thus is the greatness of Mr. Greg Koch.
He is simply Amazing.
Greg is a master on guitar! Love u Greg! Thanks!
This changed my life
Great to hear that the legendary Mark Knopfler was Greg's inspiring influence.
Thanks for the upload.
Professor of Poultry, Grease n Gristle. He's encyclopedic like Guthrie, just amazing AND hilarious.
'Professor of Poultry' OMG! 😂
great version of this old classic.....
The Hammond Organ sound at 2:54 blew my mind. I see him hit a stomp box. A leslie speaker effect?
Yes. It's probably a Neo Ventilator which is what Greg was using around that time. Amazing pedals !
Greg explains stuff so us mere mortals can understand. Well done Sir. :D
insane playing
Great experience sitting firstrow there, great vibe and great musicians. Thank you!
This man is good to the point of ridiculousness.
i own the same guitar and i highly recommend it ! quite expensive but you'll never get rid of such an instrument, it's comfortable and sings like a dream. from country to metal it can play anything ! (fender american tele deluxe ash)

Danke für den Upload, ziemlich geil das alles nochmal angucken zu können :)
Greg Koch is a great player!
He is too good to inspire me....I just want to quit playing after watching Greg Koch. He is simply amazing! 🔥🎸
Master Kochery......in the volcano lair of guitar licks.....
Is there more to this? I love Greg, he's fascinating!
Plays inside/outside/possibly poolside .....WOW... All chickens bow to the king as he passes!
Great playing as always, Greg! Thanks! :-)
Yeah!
This chap is a brillliant player and raconteur. Love him.
thanks for your answer... what a great sound !!
My God, that tone!
Absolutely Incredible
The drummer is looking at Greg and thinking, "This guy is out of his mind."
He has no idea what Greg is doing or how but he knows it's amazing. Watch
His face. He's just confused and certain Greg is off his rocker. And he's right.
What a guitar player.
i though he just totally fucking bored
I'm pretty sure he has every idea what Greg's doing....just not as gregorious....so to speak
Most Musos get guitar fatigue...
He’s wondering if he’s going to get paid and if it’s enough to buy some of whatever Greg is on...and he is probably thinking “ Greg is either a genius, completely insane or both”. I go with both. 🤪
Is he plugged into that Vox in the background? Glorious tone and playing as always.
Probably just a house amp. These guys can make a shoe box sound good...
This explanation of chicken pickin was so explicit and erotic my wife and I have incorporated it into our nighttime bedroom activity. Thanks Greg!
thats it man
I would like to pick a little in the middle?

Awesome! Tone... Are those Seymour Hot Rails? dB
That Vox is getting a great tone.
GREAT! Thanks very much for posting!
Great player
That Tele looks like a child’s guitar in Koch’s hands!🎸
Amazing! Thank you so much for posting this vid!
Holy fuck! At 2:55 tell me that doesn’t sound like a freakin Hammond B3! Never heard anyone do that before! 😱👏
Don't feel to awful. Look closely and he clearly steps on and off a pedal. It's what he does with the volume knob that blows doors...
Mix it all up and kinda make a soup out of it, and let the good times roll! This guy is awesome!
Super toll erklärt! Vielen Dank.
Much as I really do love Greg's playing..I'll tell ya -there alot of guys who can play on the same level as him..usally they are in higher education music academies. but they are out there.
I love Greg's Tele to death. What pickups are in it? Lace Sensors?
chicken activity, awesome name for a band !!!
5:03-5:09 Pure Gold!!! LOL
Greg's a beast....best chikkn pikkn how 2 vid i've seen yet:)
I was that good back in the days of when I invented the multitracker and the guitar pickup.
Where can I sign up for a lesson with this guy!!!!!! Holy Moses.
he just gave us a lesson here
Fantastic tips! Thanks :D ♥
Wondering how many in the audience speak English fluently enough to have any idea what he's saying. The drummer has the look of a guy who does not have any idea what he's saying but smiles at appropriate times when he realizes that he's said a joke.
God damn.. Pick it.... Love this...
Where do you get this Ray Gerold tele set in the US?
Awesome...
How do you get a Vox amp with controls on the front? Do you have to be Greg to have on?
I was gonna ask the same.
Apparently a Vox AC50CP.
Some Sweet Metal Riffs
Damn that was awesome
Was that first song Steppin' Out by Clapton?
I wonder how he likes the Rails pick em up on the neck of his Tele? Be luvin' his drummer
ba da ba ba baaaa I'm lovin it...
I detect a magic dingus box! Sounds great! That Teli is smoking!
DAY YUM!
I'd post something cool; but I have to clean my brain off the back wall. This Guy is an animal. Love it!!
I'd guess those are Joe Barden "Danny Gatton" or modern T-set.
"nine people don't like poultry".... that line gave me the giggles for a week! must have been the beer... Don't get me wrong, I love Greg's stuff. Anyway, thank's Pisstake, that was just funny as hell!
Круто. Хочу научиться так
I really appreciate Greg's 'stand-up routine'. A kind of musical George Carlin at times.
Joe Barden pickups?
What is the effect at 2:55 ?
Wow!
epigons!
We had records...and we had Beer!
Nice to see they’ve let Greg out of his lair at wildwood . He’s rockin
thanks for this
what's the leslie effect?!!! cool!
Its really easy to do this type of picking on telecasters. while its fun, its really simple with some 9 strings low action. you dont see many people doing this type of speed with technique on other types of guitars but when you do its amazing. I myself love to pick these blazing licks style, but for a real challenge try it on a lespaul.
why do anything on a les paul of you have a tele....thats just silly.
+wayne smith ok my bad man, I'm just saying if there is a guitar that is made for this type of chicken picken, it's a Tele with 9s and a low action
+Eric Oglesby
Wow Eric have a little grace man!
I agree Greg) What a pain in the ass it was to learn . I used to put a quarter on the needle head to slow the recorded down and have to tune lower. The beer we drank out of frustration from learning now from a scratched record from learning licks scales Arpeggios)
This guy is like Steve Vai taking over the brain of Roy Buchanan.
"And therein the chicken is born..."
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great playing all around....Awesome guitar tone....Just fuckin' AWESOME !!!
the drummer guy doesn't seem to be too impressed....LOL... great lesson on some elusive techniques.
The best videos on youtube for chickenpickin instruction as far as im concerned
wow
No need to thank me
06:56
Drummer even blinks in beat.
Kool Kat
Who's better then Greg..?? No one.
scotty anderson was the first name to spring to mind...he makes Koch look like a spastic.
simon lloyd who??
i am.
what kind of double blade pickups are in his guitar?
Joe barden
The first song sounds like Lazy by Deep Purple. I bet Greg could play it too.
I thought the same thing
Ive never seen a better explanation of chickin pickin
No comment has mentioned Clapton, isn't this Steppin Out
Yes, kind of. The original one had much more life to it. Let´s play faster and faster so we can show off, it´s better to let the music breath.
@@kimhansen6384 cool opinion!
Drummer has a "Why did you bring me here for this sh*t ?" look on his face...lol.
Surprised he didn't feather the side of his mouth with an extended pinky finger
there sure is a lot of knobs on that vox amp
A unique lesson on how to choke the chicken.
i'm such an ass for not liking this guy when i was younger. .. this is utterly fantastic - both on a playing level and a teaching one... even if you're not interested in chicken pickin'
Introducing Vin Diesel on drums!
Mark Knopfler on drums
From the moment Koch is starting his teaching , the drummer looks bored as hell ..
he just looks stoned
