That drone footage was awesome mate.. I had a H22 fin keel.. I lost my job in lock down and the boat yard robbed her off me for falling behind on my yard fees.. They didn't really want me there in the beginning so as a result I never got my girl in the water.. I will find another one day and my adventures will happen.. Fair winds sailors 🫡
Thank you. Enjoyed the trip! Been halfway there from Orford, got very very sick and had to turn around (30 yrs ago.). Gave it up after. Sympathy to Chris. Phil, Suffolk.
Great to see what is possible if you set your mind to it. Great video thanks for making it. Fond memories as a kid in a 25’ doing Harwich>Ostend- keep them coming!
Hi Sam, it’s great to see a fellow sailor coming out of Pin Mill and getting stuck in. I used to sail a Pandora 22 on these kinds of trips. Proper roll your sleeves up and go for it stuff in a boat like that. Well done. Thanks for sharing and best of luck going all the way around!
I really enjoy the longer journey vids Sam. The route planning is interesting with tides and wind to factor in as well as obstacles to miss, like wind farms and other shipping. Hope Chris enjoyed himself despite the Mal de Mer, although he still had his humour. I saw somewhere on YT that wearing an earplug in one ear works for some people; something to do with the difference between the ears eases the confusion that your eyes and ears experience. A really nice cruise.
I want to do the same this summer with an Eygthene 24. From Holland to London. Do you think it's possible without AIS? Also our engine is outboard and sometimes comes out of the water with higher waves.
Launching was ok, recovery was another story. One thing i hadn't factored in was the maximum range setting of the drone. After approx 20 minutes in the air i exceeded this and had to sail back to retrieve it only being able to control the height of the drone. Thanks for watching.
@@Belphegoresque yes that is an option to make things easier, usually I would retrieve while underway. Now that the geo launch range limiter has been removed it shouldn't suddenly stop mid flight. Thanks for watching 👍
Nice videos!! Im planning to sail from UK to Spain and into the Med this April-May in a small boat too. Let me know if you would like to join on your boat ( a limd of flotilla sailing stile).
Great video Sam, building up the courage to launch the drone. My mate and i are looking to make our first euro hop next year. Is there are check list of stuff you need i.e forms, ensigns and all the gubbins
Paper work always comes acrossed more effort than the trip but its now much easier I've heard. Check the RYA website out for a good source of info on customs requirements, the noonsite website is also useful. Fly Q flag and courtesy flag on arrival, small ships registration certificate (SSR number needs to be displayed on hull), yacht insurance, proof of VAT, passports. All the best for the trip. Thanks for watching.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Let's all chip in and get Sam a 4stroke engine!
If YT let me take 20% from the advertisements they pester my viewers with i could probably install an inboard.
Nice video 👍

Excellent drone footage. How did you get on recovering the drone? I tried it once from the boat. Very nerve wracking!

@@samsails9820 Heaving to for drone retrieval not an option?
@@Belphegoresque no the boat was underway when it stopped so was moving away from it.
@@samsails9820 Of course, I meant before it stops next time you fly it.
