I really liked berbatov rather than the usual neville and carragher because he has a great football brain and understands a lot more, i think about the progressive attacking formations, etc. Plus, he has a bit of style about him and that aura that made him a great player

Gary Neville knows a lot more than Carragher. There is NO way it will work out with Garnacho on the left side. It will be Dalot for sure - or that he and Mazraoui will play there and Amad on the right. I actually think that he won't use Rashford either. He does not fit centrally at all. Both him and Garnacho should be sold

Im with Dimitar, Garnacho aint gonn work as a wing-back, not in his current situation. We saw a prime example vs Chelsea, when old-man Casemiro had to sprint back to cover him and Garna was barely at the halfway line... Casemiro was rightly furious afterwards.

As a Sporting CP fan I see Diallo doing that part a lot, he presses while in attack and in Sporting 3 of our wingbacks are former wingers: Geovany Quenda, Geny Catamo and Nuno Santos, we have the midfielders helping in defence when the wide backs are in attack until they get back at position, if he doesn't have cofidence in the players he might implement a RB/LB in one side and a RWB/LWB in the other, to maintain defensive coession, it was his model of defence for 3 of our 4 years together. Wishing him and United luck, always sensed a connection between clubs because of Ronaldo, Nani and now Bruno hoep for the best Saudações Leoninas 💚💚

Im from Portugal and also a Sporting supporter.
One of the things i like most of Ruben Amorin´s way of coaching is the way the team pressures after losing the ball.
Usually it takes only 4 or 5 seconds until the oposite player has 1 or 2 on top of him to take the ball back.
That earned us many wins even when we were not playing so well.
Man Utd players better learn how to put the effort on that aspect quickly otherwise they wont play. Ruben doenst mess around on that.

Some details that may interest United fans:
    1. Amorim was coached for many years by Jorge Jesus, one of the best Portuguese managers of all time, known for his tactical qualities and obsession with perfect gameplay, though often criticized for his communication. The apprentice may have surpassed the master, as Amorim’s communication is widely praised.
    2. He was also trained by Mourinho (as staff) and Carlos Queiroz (as player on national team) and was a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo (national team).
    3. Amorim has coached three clubs with a 3-4-3 formation, continually adding new dynamics adapted to his squad and well-understood by his players.
    4. Although he had already coached three clubs, he served as an assistant coach because he lacked the credentials to be a head coach. He only gained these credentials months after being acquired by Sporting Clube de Portugal from Braga for a fee between 10 and 15 million euros.
    5. At Braga, Amorim joined mid-season and started by winning the League Cup. In just a few months, he defeated the three biggest clubs in the league, including away games against Porto (with Luis Diaz) and Benfica (with Ruben Dias), and launched Trincão, who was later sold to Barcelona for a record fee for Braga.
    6. In his first year at SCP, he won the league and the League Cup. He showed great skill in creating team cohesion, identifying necessary talent, and communicating with calmness, ambition, and unity. He sold the most expensive players (out of necessity) and focused on cheaper and academy players. The impact of empty stadiums in 2020 and being out of international competitions (eliminated in the Europa League playoffs) is unclear, as rivals lost many points. His football style relied heavily on counterattacks, prioritizing a solid defense, team cooperation, and fighting to the last minute. This counter-attacking style also benefited from opponents’ high pressing against Sporting. After many years, SCP’s gameplay dynamics were well-defined and understood by the players.
    7. In his second year, with more respect from opponents and the need to play in international competitions, without the financial ability to expand the squad as needed, he did not win the championship but increased his points tally, improved the quality of play, won the Supercup and League Cup, and reached the Champions League Round of 16 (a record). The Champions League run was possibly less positive due to the inexperience of the squad (and the coaching staff) in this competition.
    8. The third year was the worst, with no trophies and a fourth-place finish. Amorim was promised that selling certain key players would allow them to keep Matheus Nunes, a fundamental player in his preseason strategy. Nunes’ last-minute sale, combined with the injury of another midfielder, caused adjustment issues, which Amorim himself admitted took him too long to adapt to. As a result, many points were lost in a difficult start to the league and Champions League, mainly due to inefficiency. He finished fourth but with increasingly better football, defeating Arsenal in the Europa League Round of 16 and narrowly losing to Juventus in the quarters. He announced that if he didn’t win the league the following year, he would leave SCP at no cost.
    9. In the fourth year, management redeemed itself with greater financial capacity, focusing on a select few targeted signings (including Gyokeres) and attempting to retain the main players. Amorim and his young coaching staff (ages 28 and 29) improved their play. They continued developing new dynamics, starting attacks from the goalkeeper, but with more offensive wingers and a 4-man press (one wingback pushing up), instead of a 3-man press, which had shown inefficiencies in certain games (Ajax, Marseille, City, Atalanta). The new dynamics and improved roster have led to some of the best football Sporting has played in decades, dominating most games, including big matches (even those they lost). In the Europa League, they were eliminated in a close Round of 16 match by Atalanta, who went on to win the tournament.
    10. This year, they lost the Supercup after leading Porto 3-0 in a match where they were the superior team. Since then, they have been unbeaten, winning all ten league matches convincingly, including against Porto, winning in the domestic cups, and drawing only one Champions League game against fellow unbeaten PSV. They were missing a key player (Pote) in that match and initially tried an alternate strategy, which proved ineffective. Once corrected, SCP improved and nearly mounted a comeback. It was also an unusual match, with SCP players slipping often, including on a clear goal-scoring chance. They have otherwise beaten Lille (who defeated Real Madrid) and recently defeated City.
He arrived in 2020 at a 'graveyard for managers' - a club that hadn’t won the league in 19 years, that usually lost to its direct rivals, and was in a climate of total instability between fans and management, financially drained due to player resignations following fans' invasion of the academy. Now, he leaves celebrated and applauded by all, including fans and rivals. He’s adored by all players, from regular starters to less-used ones, and communicates assertively and calmly. On press conferences, he always avoided discussing referees decisions, focusing on the technical side of the game, sharing credit for victories with the coaching staff and taking responsibility for defeats. For example, on corners and free kicks, he sits on the bench, and his young assistant gives instructions. He’s never been hesitant to replicate and acknowledge strategies from other coaches, like including corners in warm-ups, a practice adopted by FC Porto’s Sérgio Conceição.
He’s not perfect. Some experiments and requested players didn’t go so well. He’s strict about maintaining the 3-4-3 formation. For example, if he needs to be more offensive, he prefers to place a traditional full-back as a center-back rather than change the tactical setup to two center-backs. On the other hand, if he needs to be more defensive, he places a typical full-back or even a center-back in the wing-back position. For this reason, he has players in the squad with different characteristics that allow him to prepare and manage each game according to the opponent. Sometimes, when the team has a player sent off, it becomes frustrating that he doesn’t break up the line of three center-backs.
He leaves us, Sporting fans, with a championship-winning club, with money, and leading in all competitions. FU Man United XD.

@@slicklol Thank you, I'm glad you agree. This was translated on ChatGPT, so it might not be entirely accurate. It may also be incomplete.
As a Sporting fan, what I observed was a coaching team with a lot of potential and continuous evolution, but one that needs time to show its worth. At SCP, they benefited from an extended preseason, which included the end of the 2019/2020 season (where they lost third place to Braga), and a first season with a lot of training time, as they were eliminated in the Europa League qualifying playoffs. If it's similar, United fans should be patient and evaluate Rúben based on what he accomplishes in the 2025/2026 season, rather than this season. It’s only next season that he will have the time to instill his processes (such as the pressing style and the offside line), will have the right players suited to his approach and will know his players' characteristics better. I believe that in that season, Manchester United will win almost every game at Old Trafford.

De Ligt reads the game well which is why his defensive numbers are at a high level (% duels wons, tackles and interceptions) but because he isnt rapid i guess that means he is slow? You’re worried he will struggle without possession? Go watch 20/21 Sporting (Rubens first full season btw) and see how we played. Solid and compact defense, allowing the least chances possible and then charging forward in the counter attack. We were champions that year. Ruben basically proved he can win it with or without the ball. He adapts his style of play depending on the players he has available.
Believe me, he’ll never change the system. He may adapt it, changing how he plays, but the 3 CBs will always be there.
Also, he usually uses an attacking wing back on one side, almost like a winger, and a defensive one on the other. Also, the two “wide” players in the attack are not wingers, they are like 10s, drifting inside either to create chances to put the striker in front of goal, or to create spaces for the wing backs/striker to go wide and make runs.
From what I have seen at Sporting for the last 5 years, I believe this is how he’ll set up Man U:
    Onana (GK)
Dalot (RCB) De Ligt (CCB) Lisandro (LCB)
Amad (RWB) Ugarte (CDM) Mainoo (CM) Shaw (LWB)
    Rashford (10) Bruno (10)
    Hojlund (ST)
The only position where I have some doubts is Striker, because Amorim loved Paulinho, who was a striker very similar to Zirkzee, however Hojlund is closer to Gyokeres, who proved to be more effective last year.

12:46 - 13:41 The most important point in this video. Ruben has GOT to stick to his principles. I've had enough of this adapting to the players thing. There's got to be enough versatility in this squad and these players, to be able to coach them into a new system.
From what I can see, we already have a descent squad and interesting player profiles to fit Ruben's way of playing. Yes there's work to do, also in the upcoming windows, but i think we've got something interesting and a good match here. GGMU

Personally, as a United fan from before the Fergie era, I'm ok with writing this season off so long as we don't get dragged into a relegation battle. Qualifying for Europe, even if it's the Conference League, would be a bonus for me. But but but......the big but, for writing this season off to be acceptable and profitable, Amorim's style and ideas must be fully ingrained in the players and the team by the end of the season so that come next season, maybe with a couple of additions that the head coach wants, we can see the full benefits and potential of Amorim's style and clearly see his fingerprints on the way United play.

And the comparison in 0:12. How can they compare pl with Portugal league ? Both league have different mix of teams, one having liverpool, arsenal, man city and one having Porto etc. It may be easy to have 1st place in easy league than pl.

And now look at goals scored. No matter how professional the tactics are, scoring is as basic as it is. If players don't score, attacking tactics will be wasted. Players have to score in the end.
The chart says much about the situation. In the mixes of good teams, the utd standing on chart is actually some-what impressing besides goals scored. Specially the xG and xG against(which i think is expected goals againt utd which is a defensive stat)

If we analyze Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Sporting in 2019, we can first observe that he changed the team’s formation to a back five, which significantly improved the team defensively. We also noticed that they conceded very few goals, meaning he started with the defensive process. Over the following seasons, he has made changes over time until reaching this season, where he maintained the defensive level but aims to score many goals and apply high pressure, something he did not do in his first season at Sporting. That said, I think he will approach Manchester United in the same way. First, he will seek to stabilize the squad and, over time, improve while maintaining the defensive process but with a focus on goals and pressure. PLEASE ANALYZE Sporting in the first season and the following seasons (despite finishing 4th in one of the seasons), he has been improving and rectifying certain aspects of the football played.

I am. Seeing Carragher say it takes specialists on wide positions makes me laugh. Amorim used defenders on that position from the start, but then progressively he started to use 1 more offensive and today against City we had 2 wingers. The 2 guys that Carragher put in here: one is winger from Mozambique and was on a loan at the start and then he tested it and guess what...scored two against Benfica playing on the right and being a left footed player and gave us the last championship. The other one who Carragher had and also played today is Quenda who is...17 and is the biggest attacking prospect Sporting had for a lot of years. He started the first game of the season and scored despite having a lot of defensive runs. He is still learning but Amorim trusts him enough to play him against City. The wingers need to know how to play there and they need to be humble enough to know that position, run a lot (something Sporting did more then City today) and have their chances when they attack. This tactic takes time but it crazy good when is settled and the players embrace the coaches ideas. Good scouting makes the rest.

The 343 of Sporting in the field is more like an 325 in disguise. You don't need too many in the back if you press well in the front, they'll lose the ball even before going to the second part of their counter. And if they succeed in the counter, they still need to face 2 midfielders and 3 defenders, that's the 5 biggest fellas in the back.
Now for this you need versatile players like Pote who can work as shadow forward, but #8 as well and close in the midfield area.
Then, you need one tank in the midfield - Hjulmand/Ugarte - and one who carries the ball - Bragança/Morita.
I can see Amorim swapping the full backs, a left foot on the right and a right foot on the left. It depends on the opponents at the time.
We won the 2020/21 title because we basically had two beasts on the wings: Pedro Porro and Nuno Santos. They could go up and down for 90' without blinking. In this season each one played on their own side, right foot on the right, and vice-versa, the idea of switching full backs came later because Amorim started to give inside playing the attention it needed as well.
Just watch the first Sporting goal against Man City, it's the right full back with the left foot who passes through the defense, that would be much more difficult for a right foot player.
Not sure if I see Bruno Fernandes has one of the three forwards, as he's too slow. I see him right beside Ugarte dominating the midfield and have two faster wingers in the front - Rashford and another (both with goals).
ps: Antony will be the new Trincão

sometimes amorim plays a left footed right winger as right wingback. so antony might get his chance. on the left wingback he wants natural left footer to keep the width. alvaro fernandez or harry amass would play there before garnacho. also one of rashford and garnacho simply wouldnt play

I agree with jamie on the team he has shown but what I think will be the best for us is when we are defending and getting off the ball the structure we have to maintain should not be 5-2-2-1 or 5-2-3 rather it should bhi 4-4-1-1 with mazraoui getting back doing a full backs job yoro and de ligt as the centre backs and Martinez operating on the left side acting more as a left back this allows garnacho to stay a bit up and operate in the left midfield area pecking back the opposition full back which he's been doing currently, therefore forming a back 4 of mazraoui de ligt yoro and martinez then mid 3 of ugarte mainoo in the middle garnacho and bruno covering the left and right midfield areas with zirkzee(I will play zirkzee over rashford in the left half space along side bruno as the 2nd 10)and rasmus up top.

Being a 40 year old-man and a Benfica fan i still remember how good Ruben played in that midfield! He was by far one of the intelligent players i've ever seen in a football pitch! Why? Because he could do (and did) 4 or 5 positions on and around that midfield and always deliver a consistent and impactful performance. If not for his injuries he would've been one of the very best portuguese players for a long time! As a coach? What can i say? He's just the same! A brilliant guy that knows what is needed to be done and understand how it can be done! A true professional and an overall great loss for the Portuguese League!... I'm just sad he coached Sporting instead of Benfica🤣 If there is one advice i can give to Manchester United is to please give him time and control. This is the time when Manchester United has to chose between just keep living on their past history, or build a new project upon that history with a new one, where egos and past glory are put aside for a reality-check that i'm sure will bring a much brighter future with new titles. Either the bosses of the club want to win titles (and Ruben is more than capable of delivering that eventually) or they chose mediocrity.

The answer to berbatov. As a Sporting Fan, the wingbacks are a major role in amorims system. In sporting, at right wing back, he always puts a right footed player to play as "inverted winger" there who is attacking minded, good on the ball and 1x1... of course he does have to defens but compared to the otherside, at Left wing back, he uses a an actual LWB, not inverted, and what tens to happen is, when the other team is in transition what happens is, That LWB tends to join the and create a back 4. The Inverted RWB can also often do that depending which wide the opposition is attacking.

  • @nicksonoffset9622
    @nicksonoffset9622 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Indeed the problem at man u is not the coach but leadership on the pitch and lacking of attack. Mostly our attack always come from the wings not at the centre. Bruno can not split the defence and thats where the problem is. The incoming coach should try to play mount, Errecksen or Diallo, goals will start flowing but if you stick to Bruno as an attacking midfielder, we shall still having same problems and you definaty fire the coach again.

I want to see this comparison with other managers and their own performance in their respective leagues before coming to United. I imagine Ten Hag's was fairly decent at Ajax, for example. So what does this tell us? Managers can do well in 'lesser' leagues with top clubs (where the difference in quality between top clubs and lesser clubs is greater)

United currently don't have a strong solo striker so he'll probably put 2 up the front with bruno behind, and keep the rest of the 3-4.
Will need 2, 3 weekends to test stuff and check player performance but I think mainoo and diallo will end up as the mid line wingers.
De ligt doesn't seem to be better than Dalot at half right cb. Yoro is the beast so plays middle of the cb like Diomande. Lisandro only viable option atm for half left cb.

Dalot is going to play in the first eleven, no doubts, has a centre back to the right? Its possible, Martinez already did that in the Selecção Nacional de Portugal, but can also play in the wing. Mazraoui is going to play on the center Middle, does not have the pace necessary to play in the wing, like shaw, that i can see him has a center back to the left.
Like Berba says, the problem is going to be the wingers, his going to struggle there....Amorim is for me, one of the best coaches in Europe now, like Slot. Is going to be interesting to see the development that his going to make.
One thing for sure, they are going to defend good
