  • There's been multiple incarnations of Shazam or Captain Marvel leading up to the 2019 version. There was a 1970's series that in many ways was ahead of it's time. But more accurately it's bad.

    I grew up in rural midwest of the USA. We didn't lock our houses or cars. We left the keys in our cars, not only when we parked at home, but when we went to town. It wasn't until the late 90s that we started to take our keys out of our cars. Just last week was the first time I ever had a friend get their car stolen (from a secured hospital parking lot, no less).

    • @rev68
      @rev68 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@cpaliulis I disagree. If you feel the need to lock things it is because you don't have trust. Not only did we trust our neighbors, we trusted our community. I now live in a secure building with a secured underground parking lot in DC and in 1 year had my car broken into 3x (2 by the same guy for sure). A lock on anything, by the way is a complete false sense of security.

    • @cpaliulis
      @cpaliulis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@rev68 I'd like to respectfully rebut your statement.
      That's a nice sentiment... But I'd like to point out that while a lock CAN be busted, it is still better than "trust". Trust can, and often is, based on faulty reasoning, or manipulation from someone who knows how to exploit people's natural tendencies. Politicians and advertisers exploit people's sense of "trust" all the time. That's undeniable, no matter what side of the political spectrum you come from.
      You also can never be sure of what's inside another person's mind, because there is no evidence that anyone can read anyone else's mind, and a ton of evidence to the contrary. You can't ever be totally sure of anyone else's intentions. You can, however, take steps to protect yourself and your belongings. A lock isn't perfect, but it's WAAAAY better than super faulty "trust."
      Trust is the REAL false sense of security.

      (1) Why is the advice of the gods so vague? I like to think it's like Xanadu, where Zeus is saying, "Wait... that forever? Or never? I tend to get those confused." Clearly god vision gets a little trippy. Plus, Billy looks beyond time and space to when his heroes are together, and it's always their poker night, and they've already knocked back a whole lot of ambrosia.
      (2) This occurred to me when you were asking why Mentor couldn't possibly catch up to the kids a second time. Why not, when he did the first time? I choose to thing it's because he was high. It was the 70's. He finally found a supplier in this little suburban town. Off screen scene later... and now the kids are stealing another car and that would just harsh his buzz way too much.

    I lived in a tiny town in Maine for a couple years and would leave my keys in the ignition. Everyone would. Once in awhile I’d come out of the bar at night and one of my friends would have moved my car around the corner, but my reaction was never “oh no!”, it just got a laugh out of me because no part of me assumed it had been stolen.

      So is Punisher War Zone just watched it for the first time last night and my god is it so much worse then I ever thought it would be. But at least it was the type of bad that is fun to watch. Like I think the casting of Frank was good same with Micro but other then that it was just bad. Like the effects were so terrible. Makeup for Jigsaw was pretty cool but his character was cheesy and over the top but nowhere near as bad as his second in command. He had such terrible dialogue such as using an axe while questioning someone and saying "Hey I Axed you a question". Writing was so laughable like the two of them had murdered so many people yet all because they set up a deal to sell some chemical weapon to Russians the DEA struck a deal that if they did the deal so they could bust the Russians that they would let the two of them just go free with all chargers being dropped. And the DEA agent who accepted the deal wasn't even dirty and everyone agreed it was the right deal to make.

    Trivia about the mentor named Mentor thing... the word 'mentor' literally comes from the ancient Greek epic poem 'The Odyssey' - in the story there's an older man named 'Mentor' who acts as a surrogate father/teacher figure to one of the main characters.

    When I was a little kid, in the late 80’s, I remember seeing public service announcements warning people not to leave their keys in the car. I don’t know why they showed these PSA’s during children’s cartoons, and I don’t know if the fact that the PSA’s existed means there was actually a problem with cars getting stolen because drivers had no concept of security or privacy. But the fact that they existed means that someone in charge thought there was a problem with people leaving their keys in the car.
