This claim was a BS run. Constantly says he did a "solo" run then says "WE" in multiple statements. Video shows camera video of difference scenes (while might not be of actual run).
Says he had no equipment yet says he had a scanner. 159 or 69 miles per hour on a rental car. Don't rental cars have governers in them to prevent "wreck less driving" speeds.
Shows pictures of guys. How did those other guys keep up. They would need the same set up to keep up with this mustang.

Having such a serious sounding disclaimer as the opening is so hilarious, I just wouldn't know where to start. 2 years, still laughing.
I am so glad that Fred was able to secure this car from the dealer that bought it from Avis. It would have been a shame for this car to have gone off to live a normal Mustang life and ended up in a crowd somewhere.

Andrew H I mean idk about you but google basically has access to almost every phone out there, since everyone with a google acc accepts that they can track your location, so the traffic info is basically the best you can currently get.
I hate Apple Maps. I hate the audio of maps so I just look where I’m at on it and I know when to turn. Apple Maps shows you that you’re before the turn as you’re passing it. Google maps always shows the right location

@@andmicbro1 Extra fuel or not crashing even at highway speeds is bad. Crashing at 100 mph plus you'd be lucky to survive without the gas. Dead is dead, all that gas isn't going to make you more dead. You just make it harder for the authorities to ID you because they need to do the dental analysis.
The faster you try to go, the more dangerous the run becomes. . . Higher speeds, bigger fuel tanks, mobile fueling etc. At some point the record will get pushed into extremely dangerous territory. Maybe it's already there.

The *2020 version* of the 60s *Hertz "Rent-a-Racer"*
I'm gonna lay it on that the record will drop below 24 hours in the next 3 years
I agree. Ed once asked us what we thought the limit would be. I think 24 hours is where it will stay for a long time. If my maths are correct off the top of my head that's right about 125mph for 24 straight hours. (2904 miles I think it is?) Hard to top that.
@@joshuagibson2520 It's 2808 on the trip odometer
No way , there’s not gonna be a perfect coronavirus cannonball run perfect storm again for a long time
24 hours is a 116.6mph average speed. 20 minutes of stop time pushes that to an average rolling speed of 118.3. This run was done with a pure average speed of roughly 108mph and was about as clean a run I have heard of. Gaining 8 to 10mph on the rolling average probably takes a top speed of 15-20mph more than the 159mph peak he had. Add in off throttle/on throttle, and where needed braking, to avoid traffic and it is a huge feat to get to 24 hours.
Per my estimate the best one could do - short of a dedicated closed road free ride - is in the 24 hour+ range. Below 24 hours I personally believe you get really close to the limits of what a tire can withstand in terms of sustained heat. Taking everything else off the table - traffic, fuels, mechanical, etc - the tire become the limit at 24 hours which I do not believe can be overcome. Add back the traffic, mechanical, etc and 24 hours is the floor. Would love to be wrong, but cannot see how any production tire would survive the full 2,800 miles.
@@opieg7333 Add thrusters. Now the tires don't have to work as hard 👍
The light bar addition ('out-driving your headlights') was something C2C Express racers Diem & Turner realized. So they added the 4 hella lights on the front of their Ferrari 308 for their record time run in 1983.
Fred sent it twice back to back. Goes to show how good Mustangs are. Congrats on the record Fred!
Avis is probably going to have a giant poster of your face that says "don't rent to"
Fred: I outran my headlights
Speed of Light: come again??!!
Guess you forgot driver's ed...DON'T OVER DRIVE YOUR HEADLIGHTS AFTER DARK.
Factory headlights aren't aimed at infinity, eventually they'll hit the ground.
Drivers Ed Resources - “Overdriving your headlights means not being able to stop inside the illuminated area ahead. It is difficult to judge other vehicles' speeds and distances at night. Do not overdrive your headlights-it creates a blind "crash area" in front of your vehicle. You should be able to stop inside the illuminated area ahead.”
Smh...the faster you drive at night the further ahead you need to be able to see because you're traveling the length of the beams in a second or less...and the brighter illumination let's others better judge your position.

Brilliant!
This run just sounds so stressful driving at that speed for so long while trying to be hyper aware of law enforcement and road hazards.
If true... and it may well be ...it's impressive. Very impressive.
In 1967 driving a 67 427 435 hp Vette with a 3.36 rear end I went from Steamboat Springs Colo to Menlo Park Calif in 8 hrs 20 minutes.
There was quite a bit of mountain driving and at high speed the Vette got MAYBE around 8mpg. With a 20 gal tank there were as I recall around 6 fuel stops.
Top end on the Vette was right around 153mph with the 3.36 gear.
I did outrun a Utah patrolman around 40 miles from the Nevada border and make it into Nevada .The car was on the original supposedly premium factory red line tires.
Which weren't much of a tire.
Anyway I regarded that as pretty fast at that time.
Years later driving a Porsche 928 in 1983 I went from Las Vegas to Los Angeles in 2 hrs 15 minutes.
I came in the back way thru the desert .
Both times I recall being wrung out at the end of the drive.
The combination of driving the car in triple digits and watching for police produces a fair amount of tension.
I find 25 to 26 hours solo at triple digits monumental for a solo driver.
He's right about wearing the tires out at sustained high speed .
On the Steamboat to Menlo run I started with about 3000 miles on the factory tires. The morning after my arrival I noticed all 4 tires were nearly bald and had to be immediately replaced.
Of c ourselves now cars are enormously more capable as witness a midrange rental Mustang with a 159mph top end.
And superior braking handling and modern Z rated radial tires.
This guy's planning and prep was pretty impressive.
.I especially liked his choice of a relatively pedestrian white car.
For some reason white cars going fast don't attract nearly as much unfavorable attention as red orange yellow or black cars. And a whie 4 door sedan is best of all in 2006 I had a white E55 with Renntech mods.
The car was fast.
I could and did regularly cruise at around 90 mph on the way to Las Vegas and after hitting the Nevada state libe increase to 140.
Did this multiple times. Never got stopped.
By contrast in the mid 80s I had a red Ferrari Testarossa.
Got a ticket outside of Palm S I rings for 58mph in a 55 zone.
Cops are basically big game hunters at heart.
They absolutely LOVE tagging a bright colored red high performance car.
White sedans.... nah.
Around 5 years ago in my 2013 mustang gt I drove from Palo Alto, CA to Sacramento, CA (130miles) in about an hour and 20 mins. I was hitting 100 miles the entire way and for some odd reason that night there was no real traffic. If you know the Bay Area there is ALWAYS traffic.
Wouldn’t Avis have a GPS tracker on their rental car to show this thing being driven at high rate of speed for an extended period of time?
Good question.
They do but most of the time they’re never checked or monitored. Only when you get into an accident they can figure out what you’ve been doing and see if you are to blame somehow.
Enterprise only uses them on HD trucks
Be cool if they'd supply him with the data for verification. Lol. I know. Not gonna happen.
Last video some rental car company workers said no one is really watching.
This scared the hell out of me. I just bought a 2019 silver Gt premium that looks exactly like that, same rims and everything, and it was a previous rental. The only thing that saved me was that the Texas license plate in his pictures didn’t match up to the Texas license plate that was on mine before I purchased it lol. Thank God. I also found out that mine was limited to 80mph while it was being rented out. Not that that changes anything.
Why, if anything you should be relieved. Any car that can average almost 120mph for 25 straight hours is the definition of dead nuts reliable.
I love that there still are people that do amazing things without filming it.
Note to self.
Put new tires on before attempting.
and this is why you dont buy ex rental cars lol

Wow one of my favorite stories of the recent videos, was cool listening to him explain the reasoning behind the choices of equipment and car! Interesting to hear how dynamic it is driving the cannonball by yourself as well. Seems exhilarating!
Despite this record being during this period where there's a lot less traffic on the roads, it really deserves credit for how it was done... for me there's true essence of cannonball in this record! Get the best car you can get your hands on and just drive like you stole it!
That rental Company punching the air right now
He chose a AWESOME car obviously, but I feel like he had the right idea in the beginning with the Taurus Police Interceptor, you’d have the look of law enforcement, city, state, and federal all use them so any state it would blend in PLUS folks would be less likely to call in on you thinking law enforcement. With the interceptor the engine and suspension is made for speed and handling so maybe someone will make a Taurus cannonball car 🤷🏻♂️ just my 2 cents worth
This times 10x. Nobody will call the police on you and EVERYONE will move out the passing lane
I agree with you. I think it would draw attention if the color scheme is not right. Black or silver would be preferred; otherwise, IF he was pulled over, he would have to explain A LOT.

Nice! So glad for this second video covering these details!👍
It would be smart to run a Crown Vic decom with a coyote in it.
That's the one thing that freaks me out when ripping around in my car. Things just happen a lot quicker than they normally would at regular speed limits and people aren't expecting vehicles driving 100+ miles an hour so when they look to get over your pretty far back there but when they actually do get over your on their ass or hit them so it's not me worried about screwing up Driving fast, it's someone else not anticipating high speed vehicles and them screwing up which in turn causes me to wreck.
I've always wanted a street bike as well but I'm always worried someone's going to kill me out there. There's a lottttttt of idiots out there on the roads I just can't trust other people.
I find the man approaching me at the end of the video to have subtle aggressive tones. Direct eye contact, walking straight towards me, and using an authoritative tone of voice doesn't compel me to buy things just so you guys know. I feel like prey being stalked haha.
sirgallium ... and that haircut 😂
@@kimosabbe50 I was thinking of mentioning that too lol but that actually would require it's own entire video about the downfall of the fade in American society. Fades don't exist anymore. Everybody sees those pictures of WW2 guys with those awesome haircuts and they think I want that and rightly so because those haircuts are awesome. The thing is though you have to be able to fade to get a cut like that, and apparently from what I've read it requires a razor to do properly and nowadays normal hair cutters aren't allowed to fade with a razor or something? Either way, it doesn't happen anymore. Now they just use the buzzers at one setting all the way up, and then cut the hair on top with scissors with zero attempt at fading in between and it makes it look like either you want attention or just bad compared to those old awesome fade cuts. It's a plague in modern society just like wearing suits that are too tight and pull with a giant X shape on the chest to the button. I get it it's the style of the time but guess what, wearing clothes that fit you properly will always override the "style of the time".
@@El_Chompo some people just don't have great barbers. A good barber knows how to a fade, its a common technique taught at every barberschool. Also, not every fade is a skin fade and requires the use of a razer, or foil shaver.

Can totally understand how the refinement of a very modern car like the current Mustang would make a solo trip much more bearable. Fred made a very good decision taking this on in a 5.0 automatic Mustang (I guess they don't make them in a manual config these days). A five year old German sedan like an E55, BMW M5 or an Audi RS6 Wagon could be better but only marginally.

I averaged 35-40 miles per gal. So 37 times 11 gal 407 miles per tank plus another civic tank in the back to feed the primary so 814 total mile range. Fun times will do again. PS. only one short stop for 5 gals to finish. Cost to do this 1k car gas and mods. the sold the car for 5500 a week later.
Those fisheye mirrors are one of the best features.

I rented a Mustang in pdx for a roadtrip in 2006... 4400 miles in one week. When I returned it they did a doubletake... unlimited mileage... thanks Hertz.
Lol, just did a road trip from DC to Denver last month in a Hyundai, started with about 700 miles, put 5000 miles in ten days.
Great achievement, great story! Congratulations Fred!
