The best way to tell a story, is to feel all the aches and pains, take the time to heal, then share your story. The best stories typically start "so, there I was. Or... No shit. Or it was a terrible idea at the time, (it got worse, got better)." These stories don't work well on paper. It's amazing to hear it, you hear/feel the joy, the Horror/heartbreak. You take a 2000 mile journey, but, you are only reading it. You may not really know anything about how it works, you may not feel the joy of that journey by reading it. Hearing the stories, edited as they may be... well I appreciate the story. I'd buy any story teller, a beer. I'd love to hear their stories in person, and call bullshit on them from time to time, and if I'm wrong buy them another round.
10:15 I had to drive an Echo (the precursor to the Yaris) for a few years... That's definitely a "floor it to get on the highway and hopefully you can maintain 65-70" type of car.. Oh, and mine had no cruise control.. That was.. Fun....
I absolutely love this story! I would love to musketball a Volvo stock, then build it up for a cannonball later. Edit, I did have a '93 940 that I ran stock with a broken speedometer. Once was pulled over at over 130, allegedly. The cop was cool with me and just had a nice chat at 4am.
Those Saturns don't have a complete front suspension from the factory. They use an oversized front sway bar as an adhoc lower control arm/trailing lower link, they have another single bushing flimsy lateral link and the strut. It's a Very loose arrangement on a good day. Kinda fun on extremely sloppy winter snow and slush covered roads using the P-brake for turn in though.
Man that would have been so fun to do with my 2010 Volvo V50 1.6D, on a temporary import permit on Swedish plates (genuine Swedish plates, issued by “Transportstyrelsen”). I have a couple more ideas: The Daisyball (a bb gun): Nothing bigger than 50cc. Basically on mopeds. The Basketball: Everybody has to walk and wear a pair of Jordan's. :D

Could listen to John’s stories forever. This sounded like a brilliant time for all involved.
Time 0:32 those old cars are on Plymouth street and Main street in Dumbo the old trolley tracks since paved over such an isolated spot in a high rent neighborhood will make it a point to pass by there.
The best way to tell a story, is to feel all the aches and pains, take the time to heal, then share your story. The best stories typically start "so, there I was. Or... No shit. Or it was a terrible idea at the time, (it got worse, got better)."
These stories don't work well on paper.
"This is a bad idea. You should totally do it" This sums up Musketball. What a story teller! Amazing!
We need a kai-truck/car cannonball. Could be hilarious
10:15 I had to drive an Echo (the precursor to the Yaris) for a few years... That's definitely a "floor it to get on the highway and hopefully you can maintain 65-70" type of car..
Oh, and mine had no cruise control.. That was.. Fun....
Lmao
i still dive it sometimes. Gets ya there in style ;)
We ran that Yaris at 117 for a huge part of that event. It goes alot better than everyone thinks!
@@jeffweiss70 yep, terrible automatic, but stick a manual on there and it goes. Stability rivals a boat tho
An event that is fun, relaxed and safe for everyone involving driving is definitely an event worth doing.
Moonshiners use to run from 8 am to 11 am on Sunday mornings because all the nosey people were in church !
Jay leno always says something along the lines of Driving a slow car fast is more fun than driving a fast car slow
The fact you didn’t even mention the Hawaiian Tropic Laguna S-3 makes me sad.
I love these automotive stories and the format is just perfect.
John always tells an amazing story!!!
Man that would have been so fun to do with my 2010 Volvo V50 1.6D, on a temporary import permit on Swedish plates (genuine Swedish plates, issued by “Transportstyrelsen”). But than again getting it from Southern Sweden to the States would be a challenge and then it will not like the American Diesel which it isn’t tuned for.
We should have an Event from Hammerfest to Gibraltar.
Aplause to this amazing story, you sir are a legend! Hats off to Jhon
One of my favorite channels, besides CarTrek of course! Thanks for all the awesome content gentlemen! I’d like to join a future musketBall… allegedly.
What i think is funny is the typical cannonball velocity is ~800 fps whereas a musket is around 15-1600fps
To run a “Musketball” with my Citroën Xantia Wagon Turbo is now my dream. I want, scratch that, I need to do this in my life.
That Citroën XM, though… 😍
This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen or known about. Full stop
There was a Smartcar run a couple yrs ago. 2 cars ended doing it. Mine was having problems so I just drove a couple miles with them, from the Redball to somewhere in NJ...
I have a couple more ideas:
The Daisyball (a bb gun): Nothing bigger than 50cc. Basically on mopeds.
The Basketball: Everybody has to walk and wear a pair of Jordan's.
:D
The "We'll get there when we get there" cannonball run!
Winner is the one who appeared with a Citroen XM (7:40), Exquisite taste and I would never expect to find that marvel in the US.
No. The winner was a Jetta station wagon
Any wife/Gf/Bf/husband that say’s Regally “that’s a terrible idea, you have to do it!” Keeper😂
You do such a great job with these interviews!
The best story yet , bar none!!!! Great job !
Great story.
Motorcyclist and scooterist have their crazy fun too. Riding a 100cc vintage motorcycle around Lake Erie (650 miles) and riding a 50cc scooter around Death Valley (450 miles).
Great fun for the mentally challenged.
Epic story. Actually sounds more exciting than cannonball if everyone maxes out around 114mph
What a great story, from initial “this is a bad idea” through the spirit of the alleged event through the grand prize, just fabulous!!!
WHAT an AWESOME Story... Just EPIC, what a GREAT Story!!!
In the UK we have rallies like TWOBALL that are very much in the spirit of this! Brilliant fun!
Finally an American, and a legendary one at that
10:25 I have driven a Toyota Yaris from Portland Maine to Joshua tree California and back. I daily drove it for 7 years.
I do several Gambler 500 events every year and this sounds like a similar vibe. The big difference being that in the Gambler the cars are even more shitty and ridiculous looking and there's quite a bit of offroad involved. That being said, this seems like my kind of party!
I have a boat at the Portofino and had the pleasure of watching the faces of the guys rushing down the last 300ft stretch.
That's awesome! I'll wave next timeà
Nice! I had the pickup version of that van.
Great idea, and story! Well done!
