    ABOUT VEDANTA
    Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions. ABOUT US Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

    The direct answer to this question which Swami should have mentioned is, "It is verily for the sake of Atman, that everything is loved"
    न वा अरे सर्वस्य कामया सर्वं प्रियं भवति; आत्मानस्तु कामया सर्वम् प्रियं भवति (Brihadarnyak Upanishad 2.4.5)
    Hence, Atman is most dearest to everyone and object of highest love.
    Hence the question is irrelevant that how one should love Atman because one cannot stop oneself from doing this even for a moment.

      Without even having knowledge of the real nature of Self either experiential or theoretical ; the love for the Self is natural to everyone at every time.
      When one is not aware of such a nature of Self as Existence- Consciousness- Bliss, even then one is unconsciously prioritising and loving their dearest Self via various activities and endeavours.
      When one knows about Vedanta, then one begins to recognise and appreciate this fact.

    "God" is only for the Ego, as only the Ego is capable of feelings for a superior and separated being. Pure Consciousness is love itself, as we are being stripped of all the bodies, what remains is only Pure Consciousness, i.e. Pure Love, which is united to All, and does not need anything, does not need to love, as it is, itself, Pure Love.

    conciousness delights in apparently connecting with itself
    in truth this can never be, as Conciousness Is Without Lack!
    Lack of ANY kind - including lack of connection, Being is "already" Everywhere/when/what
    assuming finite separateness is necessary to feel limited, in order to relish feeling connected, loved....drop all sense of self and there is no lack anywhere.
    everything is already Itself, and HAVING NO GAPS, requires no connection...Conciousness is Infinitely Contiguous in All Directions (there is no direction)

    This same question was in my mind, how to live the consciousness. As pure consciousness is indifferent, invisible and has not yet experienced, and it has no forms and properties then what to love and how to love. Thank you for the explanation. Still one doubt how the absence of all qualities can be described as happiness and knowledge. How it can have the properties of knowledge and Ananda.

    We are causes and effects, our life is attributes as the Saguna Brahman.
    The real cause is that of the Nirguna Brahman, to see this ONE pure consciousness is to realize ALL is as much of that as that is of YOU.....
    Be this ONE and feel this closeness
    that surrounds you, for that is you in every sense of pureness within.

    Great question for the reasons the Swami mentioned.
    “ChatGPT cannot love”
    I would contest that. If Atman informs reality, then surely an AI (maybe not ChatGPT just yet) would also be informed by the same “I”.

    • @religionofpeace782
      @religionofpeace782 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      But how will you instill feelings and emotions into the AI? How will you make the AI suffer? It's possible only through consciousness.

    • @concernedspectator
      @concernedspectator 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And why shouldn’t AI also be conscious if it is borne of the same substrate that informs our own consciousness?
      If we simply reject the possibility that AI may be conscious without good reason, then that is merely special pleading.
      I haven’t seen any actual reasons why AI may not attain the same sort of consciousness as us, if it isn’t conscious already.

      Consciousness can't be the direct meaning of any sentence but it can be the implied meaning. If you say you can't think about consciousness it's like saying I don't need the pole for pole vaulting because I throw it away when I reach the other side. You need the pole to reach the other side and thus you need a mind and intellect to know consciousness. Lastly consciousness is self knowing and self revealing so the question of knowing is moot

    A very beautiful explanation. However, I cannot help but point out a few things. It was needless to bring ChatGPT into the discourse.
    Who is to say an Artificial Intelligence is incapable of love? In fact, we are just in the early stages of the AI revolution and already it has been found that medical chatbots consistently and significantly outperform human doctors in empathy in dealing with patients. It is no longer fanciful to imagine a future where humans will increasingly be partnered with AI loaded androids. Less drama, more peace. At least you can be sure your partner will outlive you and care for you till the end. We may deny it, but the truth is Love too is just a mathematical construct and programmable.
    And on Saguna Brahman. The venerable Swamiji left out one very important word: ALL. Saguna Brahman is not Brahman with attributes. It is Brahman with ALL attributes. As far as Brahman is concerned, it is an All (Saguna) or Nothing (Nirguna) thing. There cannot be a middle ground. It's like Infinity and Zero. That is why the question of Love in the context of Brahman does not arise at all. Love (and any such attribute) is a meaningless deceiver. It is just another trick of Maya. Know this and Become.

      If you discuss self with ChatGPT, you will realize it is a mirage. A mirage creates a believable appearance of water, but it no matter how much you pursue the appearance, it will never satisfy thirst. Artificial intelligence imitates an aware mind, but it does not share love of being with you as another being can.
