He is getting his much due and much overdue recognition and respect now.Well,he has had it from musicians for decades. But now popular culture on both sides of the pond are helping cement his legendary status with the new Pistol mini series!
But he isn’t really underrated, he was in one of the most famous bands of all time and is in many of the top 100 guitarists lists. He’s been name checked as an influence by guitarists for decades. If anything he’s overrated based on how well he actually plays. I will point out he is my favourite guitarist of all time and has been for thirty odd years.
Jonesy was always the creative element behind the Pistols, which he proved with his later material with Cook in The Professionals and thereafter with his participation in other bands and his solo efforts. Lydon had and still has a lot to say about anything and everthing - from the way he talks you´d think he was God´s gift to music.
"And when she writes to you, desperation shining through Will you take the time to call her? Once again, she’ll be the fool Like old soldiers fade away; Your time has got to come one day One day" This is really fucking great, I love the break down with the high bass run and the funk drums.
Simply the greatest punk rock guitarist ever! The riffs and solos were just too good, Rossi of Slaughter and the Dogs a close second, then Captain Sensible or bloke from the UK Subs!
Great song and brilliant lyric. One for all those who think Cook and Jones were the talentless ones. I like a lot of PIL stuff but this was criminally ignored and in my opinion superior to much of Rotten's work post Pistols.
Paul Myers played with The Fallen Leaves in 2004 and now he's Playing with Vic Godard and the subway sect (Paul Cook too !!!). Ray McVeigh played with zich, Billy Currie and Glen Matlock.
all great bands especially the buzzcocks seen them live a few years back one of the best gigs ive ever been too , good look with finding a band hope it goes well for you
@pressovannye I've checked out this "these days" and it´s nothing like "Magnificent", very good though. (always good to know a good music I didn't before) thanks.
All this “Professionals vs. PiL” crap is ridiculous and pointless. They were/are BOTH great bands... just two very different bands. Apples to oranges. I love ‘em both.
Is THIS about John Simon Ritchie aka Sid Vicious by any chance ? First time I've heard this Song where I was really paying attention to the lyrics ! Damn all these years !!!
What? He reached his 60’s and packed on some pounds? So what. He’s Steve Jones. He survived the Sex Pistols, heroin addiction, and fucked half the female population of the planet. I’d say he’s no worse for wear... and a solid human being.
LA metal. steve&paul not punk spirit. sex drug&rock'n roll. rockstar&money. this track&fashion is LA metal. true punks is Crass,Conflict, anarcho punk. Crass Nagasaki Nightmare. Conflict This Is The A.L.F
What´s all the PIL shit on here, - Jones`n`Cook and the Professionals are a million miles away from the Rotten PIL crap, chalk and cheese. Rotten was always a cool bloke but his ideas and taste on music - less said the better.
Jonesy was so underrated , great guitarist , very good songwriter , great personality....
He still is mate
So long as he’s not shagging your bird or nicking your stuff

Yeah I can’t stand pil unfortunately
@@DementedDelight I like a lot of Public Image but I get what you're saying because there's a lot of stuff that just seems like filler.
This song is so underrated.
Cook & Jones are National treasures

Thanks, pal.
Wish you were in Philly johnnyblisters.
Thanks for that, wish you well.
I guess this is where the Offspring got their sound from.
Never got even close mate.
@@Sabbatius527 the guitar sound is actually similar to offspring. I understand what he is saying.
Love it 💯🎸
Just a flamin killer album, still gets the old hair up on the back of the neck. Anyone know what happened to the the two other guys in the band?

Think I know where Never Get a Job (Last Resort) riff came from.
That's what I think too !!
That's the guitar riff from Public Image by PIL?? The one straight after each chorus??
bears some resemblance. if it was played by U2's The Edge, then it would sound like PiL's Keith Levene, good observation.
Maybe they could have done a song for one of those 80's high school rebellion movies.
I wonder if he still has the white Les Paul Sylvain gifted him…
keren😎
Without Steve wher would the fkn pistols be lol
dan Thompson what are you ?
what is called rock 'n' roll nowadays?
rhetorical question
02:06 - Lol
That riff is totally public image
2.07 classic. Fuck off whippersnapper I'm the guitar hero here. Go Steve.
It's about Rotten not Sid. Why else use Public Image imitation guitar riffs?
Had facking nothing on Glen's 'Rich Kids".....
The professionals were a great follow up to the Sex pistols better than Pil by a mile.!! Sorry johnny but true.
different type of bands.
so?
You seen Steve Jones now? .... *F++k me!*

great music. but goes to show every rebel icon sells out when they get rich and fat.

To bad checkered past sucked.
LORDGOAT1976 Ya I've tried to listen to them but I just can't get into it.It's the singer .
PIL Guitar riffs ??? PIl wouldn´t know a "Riff" if it was hanging off the end of their nose.
