You don't need it necessarily, but I would recommend an interface if you have 2 or 3 guests in the same room. This way they can have their own microphones and audio files. Then you have more ability to match their volumes, reduce background noise, etc. If you want to keep it really simple and don't mind slightly lower quality audio, you can even put an iphone in the middle of everybody and record the audio. There's also some handheld field microphones from Zoom that will capture the audio. Really up to you on how in depth you're willing to go to get better audio. If the information is good and people like the show, you can get away with lower quality audio, especially to start.

Maaaaannnn… I’m not there yet… I just got a rodecaster for my podcast and slowly getting my equipment together… Next Imma get a cam so I can get off my iPhone…. And after that better lighting! Mentally I’ve been envisioning this EXACT setup up.. Happy to help, and I'm glad to hear things are coming along with your podcast! Getting used to the RODECaster can take some time, I always keep things the same: I plug the microphones into input channels 2, 3, and 4, this way the output channels should always be 4, 5, and 6 (because output channels 1+2 are the stereo summary of everything.)
Super PRO Setup - Congrats.Together it's about 10K and it's worth if you have interview guests at your office. For a remote interview I'd recommend a DSLR Cam (e.g. Sony Alpha 6000), wide angle lens with AF (e.g. Viltrox 20mm f 2.8) , background from a photo studio, Riverside or similar service for recording, good lighting, like the one you mentioned and Logic Pro and / or Final Cut for post production.
Great video, I do have one question; Why use the cloudlifter with RodeCaster Pro? I feel it's like an overkill. The Rodecaster do got some great pre-amps.
RODECaster preamps will definitely do the job and do it well. I like using the cloudlifters with the Shure SM7bs because they usually need more gain than other mics I've used. When I use the Heil PR40s, I don't use the cloudlifters. Let me know if you have any other questions on this front, I hope this helps.
Have you had experience using the the hardware alongside the software? I am working through a problem where I’d like the ability to have the ATEM software on a MacBook for file naming, media loading, etc; while also recording direct to the SSD via the usb output on the switcher itself. I know that the ATEM Extreme has 2 usb outputs so it’s not a problem there. 😢 Any experience with that? My theory would be to get an Ethernet to usb adapter and go direct from computer to Ethernet on the ISO. Great video! Thanks 🤘🏻
Thanks! You can try using the USB C to connect an SSD drive, then get a Macbook adaptor that has an ethernet port. Connect your Macbook to the Atem through the ethernet connection and you'll have access to the ATEM Software Controls app while saving to an SSD.
You can cut a lot of the cost down if you film on a phone and plug the microphone into your phone. I've actually got a video coming out soon that's gonna show people how they can record a podcast on a $50 budget.
In the Atem there has to be at least one setting changed. Mic1 needs to be set to Line. Otherwise the audio from the rodecaster will sound crappy in the recorded tracks from the Atem.

@@motiondphotography2024 ssd has nothing to do with settings. You have to use the Atem software on the computer. The computer needs a connection with the Atem. Either usb or network. Then you can modify settings in the Atem software. After this, you can disconnect when you need the usb port for your ssd. Recording is done by the Atem on the ssd. If you want to record on your computer, then you need a software application such as OSB.

I am a newbie to this and have two questions related to capturing video on my Atem Mini Pro ISO(have been searching for answers all over to no avail): Do I still need SD cards in the camera even when exporting video out to the ATEM? I'm getting error messages because I don't have them put in (is there a bypass?). Also, do you have to physically hit "record" on the Atem AND the cameras when you start recording? Any help is MUCH appreciated, thank you!
Thanks for checking it out! I'm not exactly sure if you need the SD cards in the camera for the HDMI out port to work, but I imagine you wouldn't. That said, I do keep SD cards in the camera and I record directly to the camera as a backup. I've had multiple times where I need to use the backup footage from the SD cards because of a piece of equipment failure, cords coming loose, etc. It's not frequent, but having the redundant backups always makes me feel better, especially if you're charging someone for your services. You do have to physically hit record on the ATEM device to save it to the SSD drive. You can also hit record in the ATEM Software Control app on your computer. If your rodecaster audio go into the ATEM, why would you need to still use your pc and Logic Pro. You will already have the audio recording on both the ATEM and Rodecaster.
Very true, but I like it as a redundant audio backup. Plus, I can record each individual track within Logic, so if I need to match volume, apply EQ/compression or noise remover, I already have the tracks in my DAW. It eliminates the extra step of having to convert the files from the rodecaster into the DAW.
Great video! I was looking for something like this on TH-cam and haven't seen it anywhere. Your setup is similar to my setup in my podcasts. I have to say Im learning as I go along. Done few mistakes up to 7 podcast videos that when I realised I can change my set-up. Lighting and audio is very very important in videos and podcast. Another video will be great to watch is how to setup the lights?
Thanks Olek, I'm glad it helped. Yes, you have to learn as you go along. I've learned the most from mistakes. For the lights, I try to keep them about 1-2 higher than the guests, and far enough away where they don't cast too much shadow on the walls. That's been the most helpful. I've found that it usually takes about 3-5 lights if you're in a room with no natural light.
I use the Canon XA55's. They're the same as the XA50's, but they have an output that can do 4k. If you don't mind having 1080p output only, then the XA50's should work for you and you'll save about $500/camera.
Do you mean you're going to do a solo podcast where you're the only person on camera, or a single camera production? I think being the only person on camera takes some getting used to, but it's a cool way to get your message out there. If you only have one camera, you can still record the whole podcast, you just can't switch angles.

Hey Tavo, thanks for checking it out! I use the Atem Mini Pro ISO to handle the switching. That said, it's not automatic. Either I'm switching back and forth between cameras as I'm recording, or I let the Atem record, then I go back and switch the camera angles in Davinci Resolve after the fact. That's only available when you get the ISO version of the Atem because it's recording all the video feeds at the same time. I've seen some software out there that automatically switches video based on who's talking, but I can't remember the name. I'm not sure what you mean by the last question. I hope this helps!
That's why I recommend outsourcing if you want to get this level of production. To start, I recommend doing a podcast remotely and using a system like Streamyard, get a webcam like a Logitech Brio, an Opal, or the Insta 360, and a microphone like the Shure MV7 USB or the Vocaster One Studio. It's really easy to set up and will keep your costs under $500 total.

I notice for the cloud lifter you only have 2 mics into it what would you do if you had 3-4 mics in your podcast setup
Each CloudLifter only has 2 inputs and 2 outputs, so I use 2 CloudLifters to record extra guests. You'll only need one RODECaster still though.

You can use Davinci Resolve on Windows as well. They have a free version that works great.
