I absolutely love this. It’s extremely straight to the point and so much easier for me to grasp when learning how to light my set and achieve performance with my equipment. This is wonderful, thank you.
Ps: Lovin the hat!
So glad this added value to you! (I love the hat too 😎)
Great work as always Ben!

Thanks for Sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!!! You deserve more views!! 🎉
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed!
This is a great video! Can I ask why two different camera types are used for side angles? As a beginner podcaster, I am looking to buy the Sony ZVe10 and wonder if two of the same cameras would be sufficient to capture side angles? I would love a video outlining more budget friendly camera gear for us beginners. Thank you!
Which softbox is my friend? Amazing video!
This video is excellent! Thanks Ben! Could you give me 2 or 3 options for main lights?
Here’s some options: th-cam.com/video/3UbPL4yi3-8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=A106nZX0yX8tA7t9
1st time here, excellent video. I started a podcast 3wks ago, dont know alot but i just started. I record on my pjone upload to buzzsprout and podcastle then to youtube for video. Have a monocaster machine but dont know how to work it yet. I'll just doing this way until i learn better or get help.
Started video with Panasonic cameras but the Sony cams work so well with podcasts.
Love sony! I started Canon but have had Panasonic before as well
VERY NICE !
Many thanks!!
so so amazing
Thanks for watching!
Great content! How do you do to record more than 30 min. In the Sony a7III?
You just earned a follow from me because of the message on your Cap
Thanks for sharing. I'm still working on having a similar podcast set up, much money to invest actually.
Best of luck!
Thanks Ben for all your great tips!
I'm setting up a video podcast in my small home studio and I'm looking for a small table that can have 2 to 3 people seated. What's the table you're using in this video? Thanks
It’s just a small desk, similar to this: amzn.to/47s16vz
6:44 dope hat!!
Thanks!
Great video Ben! What mic stands are you using with the Shure MV7?
Thanks! These are the ones I have: amzn.to/45FlgQs
Thanks man
You're welcome!
@@benjohnsoncreative haha so I had this whole thing typed up after the thank you about how great the timing of this video was since this is something I was trying to figure out last week but then I was like mannnn Ben don't have time to read all that and so...I guess I deleted everything except the thank you and posted the comment instead of discarding? Ffffff
Awesome video and setup! How do you sync all the camera angles to match together along with the audio???!!!! I always thought you had to hit record on each camera at the same time for them to match up 😂
There is a sync feature in Final Cut (and in most editing programs!)
@benjohnsoncreative even after clipping your videos from muktiole cameras, or will you rely on editing to line the audio back to certain frames to get back on track.
I sync the full clips (before cutting anything out). As I begin cutting things out I cut all the way through all clips and audio, Final Cut’s magnetic timeline makes it so I don’t have to drag anything back or realign clips with audio
What color profile is best for shooting podcast. Because slog3 takes very long time to color grade and everything. So I am thinking that the podcast may not need that high dynamic range. So what do you suggest? which can be a best color profile for a video podcast?
Hey bro, how do you focus on the person who's talking, how to do that? Are you moving the camera or how yo do that ??????
you guys are dope
Thanks Ryan!
what did you use to edit? it looks so clear. Thanks for the tutorial too
I edit in Final Cut Pro
I noticed you use the Shure MV7 as your mic, my question is, do you use a cloud lifter with your zoom H6 device or no need for that? And my second question is, do you use a camera switcher or do you record all angles then edit them post production?
I use the MV7, no cloud lifter needed! (But pro tip: buy the Shure sm7b POP FILTER, it is only like $15 and works much better than the stock mv7 one)
I record the angles separate then sync it in post and do my cuts
Do you shoot all of your content on landscape?
Love this setup but whats a budget alternative for those 2 lights- the key and rear tubes?
Here’s a budget key light: th-cam.com/video/1KempxwpwFk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ky9mwxIkDkFtJAS0
For the background tubes you could do this as a budget option: th-cam.com/video/aHskXN-yGso/w-d-xo.htmlsi=D_aKXmQcGSmwp2p0
hey bro thanks)) those look great and right in my budget. cant tell you how much i appreciate your support. your channel rocks!!@@benjohnsoncreative
Your content is Lit!!! Can you make a tutorial on luts or Color grading? Even a tutorial for thumbnails like you?
Here is a color grading tutorial: th-cam.com/video/cljkygq8GKE/w-d-xo.html
And here is a thumbnail video: th-cam.com/video/JJg8ky2k4nM/w-d-xo.html
@@benjohnsoncreative Can you make a new tutorial? I have already watched those? Plus what's the RPM on your Channel?
Hi Ben! Can you please link the stands for the TL120 lights? Struggling to figure that out. Thanks for the great work!
I look for heavy duty, air or spring cushions stands like these: amzn.to/44YMyl8
Thank you!@@benjohnsoncreative
Hi I just bought the alpha7 3 and zv e10 but the recording limit is only 30 minutes, how to increase that
great ❤ what i want 🎉
Thanks for watching!
New to podcasting...I have a few questions.
How are you recording long form videos with the sony cameras?
Do they force you to stop every 30 minutes or so?
Are you having to piece together clips? Do you record the whole video ?
Are you recording the whole podcast on the phone as well?
Are you cutting down the footage for youtube shorts / tiktok in editing software or just on the phone?
Thank you in advance!!!! Love the vid!
The newer cameras don’t have the record limit. I sync my footage and audio in post
I sometimes record the whole thing in my phone too, just depends on if I plan to repurpose it for short form vertical
@@benjohnsoncreative thank you so much! I really appreciate all the insight. Exceptional video as well! Super informative. I appreciate it.
Could you please help me get my Sony a7iii to connect to my computer. It connects to image edge remote but not visible in any other apps.
Do you have any suggestion on budget cameras? We have a 3 camera setup but are using a GoPro and two c922, the quality just isn't there but we don't want to break the bank.
This is one of the best budget cameras: th-cam.com/video/HK4IcdUSYps/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lIfia3yy45I2ID2Z
It is a good content topic. I hope there will be a new content about the interview.
Podcasts are on the rise!
Is that an 80mm or 65mm Lantern?
Thanks Ben! I’d like to figure out a solution for travel video and podcast video without overheating. I was liking the zve1 or a7c2 any takes ? Or will
Both overheat 4k24?
I’d recommend the Sony fx30 it has a built in fan
@@benjohnsoncreative damn! Ok makes sense. Need a travel video camera 👀 fx30 seems bulky?
You're running everything on batteries?
Sweet setup! What size is that lantern softbox?
Big 😂 26inches
amzn.to/4bYvm2r
@@benjohnsoncreative that’s what she said 😜
Love the hat
Me too! Got it from my friends company, Jesus Loves You Co
Great video… I have a question about the audio subject…
I am planning to build 2 gaming setups in a gaming room (me & wife)
We both are using hd58x headphones. i use rode podmic with a goxlr and she’s using samson q9u with scarlett and dbx 286s preamp
What should I consider to prevent my voice to be picked up with her mic and vise versa
Any advice ?
I’d look into noise gates and careful positioning of the set ups. If you still have issues you could try hanging a curtain between the set ups to deaden outside noise
@@benjohnsoncreative thank you for your reply 🙏🏼
How to choose the correct position for setups?
Ben, what do you do for monitioring audio while recording? It looks like maybe you don't, do you just check to make sure levels are good before hitting record? What would you do if you wanted both people to be able to monitor with headphones during the entire recording session? Does the Zoom H6 allow for that, or would you suggest another recording device? Thanks!
I don’t monitor I just look at levels, if you want to monitor the zoom h6 has an audio out, you could use a splitter cable with it but you wouldn’t have separate monitor mixes for each person
Thanks for the response! My wife and I are starting a podcast, and ideally I'd like to have us both be able to monitor audio with individual mixes. I'm thinking of going with the Zoom Podtrak P4 instead of the H6 for that reason. Thanks for all you do, I'm getting a lot out of your videos!
🙌🙌
Thanks for watching!
How do you deal with audio bleed? Any time i've tried a set up like this I have audio bleed issues
This may help: th-cam.com/video/6R1Hr2f_rCQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7KDul47cUTrUYsGW
How many mics can you connect to that audio recorder? Also what take is that!?
By default you can do four, but it has a separate attachment you can get to add two more lines, so technically 6 total
It is a instrument cable/xlr input
With the A7iii do you find it difficult with the 30 min limiter?
It’s not ideal, since this video I’ve actually sold my A7iii and plan to upgrade to either the A7iv or a newer camera (there are always rumors about new Sony cameras!)
What’s the size of the lantern?
I have a question I'm creating a podcast but the room has windows. Should I black out the windows from behind the shades and use the lighting equipment to create the perfect light setting? Or should I do something as extreme as cover the wall with, like green foliage ? Please help.
I’d block out the windows so you have full control over the lighting. Blackout shades would work well
There are also ND films to put over the windows to have the right ratio....
what Video editor are you using?
Final Cut Pro!
Looks amazing! What's your podcast named?
No official name yet, just posting on the channel! I've got a few episodes out though
@@benjohnsoncreative Okay! Thanks for fast reply! keep up the great job!
no link for the table you used
It was a local find - sadly I can’t link it
How do you overcome the 30 minutes time limit on the a7iii?
In this specific situation my wife was monitoring it lol, the alternative, I sold it and bought the a7c which is the same sensor but doesn’t have the limit
But the Sony A7iii stops recordering after like 20 mins, do the other Sony cameras do that too? Seems like you should be using something that can roll for a couple hours?
just like I said this isn’t the perfect set up but it works for me. The best camera is the one you have on you 😎 newer Sony cameras don’t have the 30 minute record limit
@@benjohnsoncreative oh they don’t? That’s good to know, I just have the A7iii atm
I think what my biggest concern is, is what camera that can record up to 2 hours without stopping
You could use something like the A7c I use. The most difficult aspect isn’t record limit but more battery life and over heating
What are those LED light called in the background??
Here you go: amzn.to/46JPUcD
Thank you!
Can someone please help me get my Sony a7iii to connect to my computer to use on riverside? It connect to image edge remote but does not show up in other apps.
With the a7iii specifically I’d personally use a capture card. It is just easier in my opinion
Budget option: amzn.to/4bIfnpd
Quality option: amzn.to/4bmUAHS
Cable like this: amzn.to/3yoeOm3
DSLR and Mirrorless cameras have maximum video recording time limit of 30 mins. How do you get around that with your cameras?
Not all of them do, a lot of newer cameras don’t have the record limit
@@benjohnsoncreative What's your way around it? Does your cameras have a limit?
Are all the cameras on the same settings?
They aren’t, because they are each facing a different direction, have different sensors and lenses they have slightly different settings
@@benjohnsoncreative thanks Ben!
Can one use Samsung for shooting
You can use any camera
Have created a channel but am very nervous to start because of the lack of equipment would love to have a decent mic and cam. I have a cheap android and cheap laptop but don't want to make poor quality content any tips tricks or hand me downs 😂? I'm determined and think I have what it takes other then the equipment. Have been down on a foot surgery and been thinking there has to be a better way then the 9 to 5 to give my daughter the best life possible at the very least would help. Thanks in advanced
eBay is the place, look for a used camera and work with that!
@@benjohnsoncreative appreciate it I'm trying to figure out how to capture audio on obs.. kinda struggling determined to figure it out thanks again
How much is all this equipment total cost 🤔?
Years of investment
But seriously, I buy open box whenever possible and invest in gear that’ll last me years to come
😳 do you even need a mixer though??
The audio recorder has separate volume levels for each mic and it also records separate tracks for each mic onto the sd card so I can isolate them in the edit and tweak each mic different if needed
Why podcasts use cameras instead of camcorders? Camcorders are optimized for videos and cameras for photos !?
J'aime ta casquette...je suis croyant❤
