We’re in Kirkland and it was so lovely during the snow to go have happy hour on our boat. Thanks for all your videos. We’re new boat owners and find your videos inspiring 🙏🏼
I looked for pictures on line of your marina after the snowfall, but saw only two small pictures in a blog. So glad you did this video to capture what is was like! A creative idea and we all wanted some pizza and soup...
That would be a good time to check for leaks around the deck hardware. The cold would make everything contract and as the snow melts you could see leaks that normally wouldn't occur in a warmer temperature.
Thank you so very much for this video. It was such a wonderful video and I especially liked Mr. Sully running in his snow boots! The music you played with it was a great touch! My mom just recently passed away from stage 4 lung cancer and I think this was the first time that I was able to truly laugh since she passed. Thank you for bringing some joy into my life at such a difficult time. :)
Good vid guys! Always funny watching dogs walking w/ shoes on their paws. He is one ‘decked out’ pup. Kinda weird seeing boats covered in snow. :) Thanks for sharing. Life is good~ Ps: that pizza looked really terrific, Shawn YUMMY 🤤
I used to live on Whidbey Island, we had a couple snow/ice storms that seemed to shut the roads and Seattle down. Previously I lived in Lake Tahoe and didn't understand how a few inches of snow could be such a big deal? But, then I saw and experienced the black ice that the roads are turned into and understood. Fortunately, I had chains for my car, so was fine. I know you have boated past Whidbey, just wondering if you have ever stopped in Langley or Coupeville? Langley has a small marina, great restaurants, movie theater, shops all within walking distance. There is a shop called Salt & Sea Provisions that is in the space where my favorite greek Mediterranean restaurant used to be. I have been following them on Instagram and can't wait until I can check it out in person. They used to have great art festivals in the summer, hopefully, they are still going on - after COVID. I am hoping to get back to the Puget Sound area and have been enjoying reconnecting through your travels. First I was land shopping for a base to RV travel from with possibly a trailerable boat. Now it's turned to liveaboard boat/rv travel thoughts. I know the hardest part is finding a slip in the right marina. Love your vlogs, you keep us dreamers grounded in the reality of all the hard work involved in living the lifestyle. Keep it up.
Well you were snow in but had all your stock in place. Snow in Seattle is not often but when it does it hits hard. You both weather thw storm day well. Was happy you at least took the time to get off and get your exercise. I am always looking forward to see what you post next.
I see you know about Food Wishes with chef John, he is one of my favorites for recipes online and all his recipes turn out fantastic. Beed Stroganoff is to die for. Hate to see you in that cold and snow, stay warm and take care from sunny and 75 Florida
Nice Pizza! I got off of very long shift one morning, came down to the Maritime Museum dock, we had 2'+ of snow, the dock power had gone out the day before, the batteries in our big fishboat were completely dead and we had a foot of water in the engine room, the manual pump was frozen solid. After an hour of trying and some help from a propane torch, got the old hand cranked Lister banging away, which pumped her dry and charged the batteries, oil stove going and made myself soup as i shovelled the docks and boats. We later found the leak when we hauled her out (rotten plank).
Being a lifetime #Wisconsinite I love watching people refer to 3 to 7 inch forecasts as a “Snowmageddon”. Yes I get that areas that don’t regularly see weather like this are not equipped to deal with it, but, I still enjoy it. :-)
Awesome video today and yes I remember snow from living in Magnolia next to Fort Lawton (DISCOVERY PARK) we could ski and slide because we live on a downhill loop and closed to cars.
Lots of fun seeing your snow days, but I did miss Shawn’s Q&A. Would like to hear about cold and snow effect on boat; did heat, water, fuel, humidity, electrical, and electronic systems all work OK?
Did you here about Friday Harbor? One of the docks with about 10 boat houses collapsed from the snow and crushed the boats inside. My brother in law s boat was only 30’ away moored on another dock!
This Seattlite works for the transit agency and spent two twelve hour days talking to stuck buses on the radio. Saturday we had roughly 200 stuck. I’m kinda like the coast guard for buses only I don’t ask if you are wearing life jackets and I prefer that location not be expressed in Latitude and Longitude. Two years ago when it snowed, I visited my boat to see the accumulation. Not this time. Last time I did see the salt water frozen over. Strange to see mussel shells laying on ice on top of the water. I was playing soccer on Friday night as the snow began (indoor soccer). First time in nearly a year.
Hey guys Michael here just wanted to say Hi and thanks for the video , And I love pizza don't get me wrong. But I very much like chicken tortilla soup because I am from Texas. And I really enjoy you guys videos keep them coming so be safe out there and be inspired.
Having lived in Seattle for most of my life, I know what a couple of inches of snow can do to that city and surrounding areas, they all go to defcon 1, and buy up everything in the stores as in they might be stuck for weeks at home. Anyways thanks for making your videos, it gives me a chance to see my city and it’s surrounding areas north and south, I’m retired now from the electrical union out of Seattle and living in Moses lake, it’s half way between Seattle and Spokane
Hello, We are Originally from NYC ( Bronx County ) Living in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Not to throw Snowball ( Let's say ) It was 75 today. Beautiful Boat.
Good episode. It was fun. No Q&A today? Shucks. Did Shaun measure the waterline with the added weight of the snow for your adventure to Greenland. I always think about the fishing fleet up north when the ice and snow hits them. Freedom looked cozy.
Look forward to this vlog every Sunday. Never made chicken-tortilla soup, but found a recipe, bought the ingredients - will give that a go....... Looks great!
Love the look of all that snow... makes for some beautiful images... but, I agree... ... maybe next year, this time, you'll be in the Gulf of California, down Baja way!
Not exclusive to Seattle. Here on the East coast where we get snow, forget bread, eggs or milk right before any snow storm. Think crust pizza is better IMO, but a Giordanos pizza from Chicago is a treat, just too much for a steady diet. Mr Sully looked like he was having fun. Elizabeth being a typical weather person 2-6” prediction.
Snow is always pretty the first day and maybe day 2 but after that it just sucks. That's the marina we bought our 42 foot sailboat out of back in 2000 before we said to HI. Very little snow there.
Six inches of snow pfffft. That's when they start to plow the roads around here.. Besides on the on the dock in the snow where does Sully go, especially during a long passage?
This is an example were people should be better prepared so they do not need to run and buy everything in emergency mode. If your prepared all if well and good no need for drama. I like your vac sealer. We bought one a few months ago and it is great. Items are good to go in coolers without issues and great for boating and on the move people lie us. We have a Nesco and like it. Take care.
Technically it's ten to one. Ten inches of snow equals one inch of water. So with all that snow the boat will sit one inch deeper in the water. That said it depends on how moist ( dense the snow is ) Big fluffy flakes are different than wet heavy snow. Depending on how high up the snow is on the boat it can lead to stability issues so it's best to clean of at least most of it
ADDENDUM: 1 cubic foot = 7.5 gallons. In effect that snow equals about as many gallons of water and fuel in the tanks as square feet of deck plan. As a rough guess take the length and multiply by the beam to get the square feet. Don't know how many gallons of capacity they have, but in the grand scheme of things it's probably not a big issue Just checked the Nordhaven site. the 41 is similar in size. 43 length x 14 beam = 602 sq ft. the 41 has The 41 has 300 gallons of water and 900 gallons of fuel. So twice as much as that snow
@@easternwoods4378 35 cu ft of water equals 1 ton. If you know the sq ft of the deck you could figure out the weight of the snow and relative water bam.
I'm afraid snow-mageddon just expedited your dreams of transferring to a warmer climate. Someday in the future, you'll look back at your Pacific Northwest adventures with affection and fondness
Well here in Racine Wisconsin we got a total of 18 in our very large driveway last weekend that I had to plow with my little lawn tractor. I plowed for a total 5 hours 2 hours the first time in 3 hours a second time. It snowing for about 12 hours. Now today we are going to get another three to six of wet snow, you know that good lake effect snow we get here in Wisconsin that's what's coming... Yeah these old biker bones and joints of mine not liking this weather no more... I retired 13 years ago I had planned on getting out of Wisconsin but my wife is a wee bit younger than me she's too young to retire till next year... Then maybe I can get out of here... But there ain't no were in this that country didn't get hit with snow from this Arctic blast... Well you kids keep having fun I'll be laying here looking forward to your next video.. y'all be blessed in Jesus... BBE 🤗🤗🤗 name...
I really enjoyed your choice of music in this episode Elizabeth! Nice. Snow looks nice. Was there any chance of a freeze of the marina while you were there? At what temp would that have happened? Can you ask Shawn? See you next episode !
Ya Gotta Love chef John! ......"Enjoy"
To clean off your boat and dock, try a leaf blower for dry fluffy snow.
Absolutely stunning, being on a boat in the snow how magical.
Mr. Tully in his boots was really entertaining. You picked the perfect music for that segment!
Ok, they pink glasses pink hat combo are a winner! What Sully has to put up with.....
We’re in Kirkland and it was so lovely during the snow to go have happy hour on our boat. Thanks for all your videos. We’re new boat owners and find your videos inspiring 🙏🏼
That’s great to hear!
I looked for pictures on line of your marina after the snowfall, but saw only two small pictures in a blog. So glad you did this video to capture what is was like! A creative idea and we all wanted some pizza and soup...
Now this is a treat, it's not raining.....It's snoooowing!
Love the snow and seeing Wally and family.
What? No Question-Answer period. Love that so much. Nice vid though. Happy boating!
Next video we’ll get caught up!
I love food wishes! Dude's voice and style is so comforting.
Agreed!
That would be a good time to check for leaks around the deck hardware. The cold would make everything contract and as the snow melts you could see leaks that normally wouldn't occur in a warmer temperature.
The winter is the best time of the year too be out in the boat.....
Nice drone shots of the marina and shoreline blanketed with snow !
Thank you so very much for this video. It was such a wonderful video and I especially liked Mr. Sully running in his snow boots! The music you played with it was a great touch! Fabulous video, music choice etc Wow that's a LOT of snow. Really a great video. Mr Sully looked so funny in his boots.🐾⚓😎🦘
OMG! I absolutely love Food Wishes 😂
Your intro hit the nail on the head. We had those feelings down here in Central Texas. Great video. See you next Sunday.
Hi Guys, Better start thinking about Western Australia to live. No snow! lovely warm summers and only mild winters
Love my Food Saver Vacuum.
OMG Chef John!! “A little shake-ah shake-ah...”😂
Good vid guys!
Always funny watching dogs walking w/ shoes on their paws.
He is one ‘decked out’ pup.
Kinda weird seeing boats covered in snow. :)
Thanks for sharing.
Life is good~
Ps: that pizza looked really terrific, Shawn YUMMY 🤤
Something about snow on a boat is just not right. Great video
Our dogs loved the snow too!
I laughed out loud in the opening sequence at the shot of Mr. Sully looking so somber in his furry jacket. Hilarious! Love that dog!
The snow was great! Even arrived on the weekend.
I know! And by Monday it was pretty much gone. Perfect 😂
snow on the hatch - priceless
LOL! Sully in his winter outfit and boots!

Mr. Sully in his winter gear was all my Monday needed.
Well you were snow in but had all your stock in place. Snow in Seattle is not often but when it does it hits hard. You both weather thw storm day well. Was happy you at least took the time to get off and get your exercise. I am always looking forward to see what you post next.
I like the paper bags with handles
Reliving last weekend all over again down here in Portland
The snow in my yard finally all melted yesterday.
Elisabeth, look at it this way....No bugs!
Chef John! I’m a huge fan! I love that y’all like him!
A very National Geographic like video especially ending with pod of seals, nice.
I see you know about Food Wishes with chef John, he is one of my favorites for recipes online and all his recipes turn out fantastic. Beed Stroganoff is to die for. Hate to see you in that cold and snow, stay warm and take care from sunny and 75 Florida
He’s great and pretty funny too!
@@mvfreedom Yes he is !
AND you listen to Chef John! Awesome--another reason to like, haha
What a snow job! Skipper gets the citation for the "Look Ma, no seat belt" move during the grocery store drive sequence.
Nice Pizza! My Crystal River, Florida butt is shivering just watching this. Better you than me. I have driven over Snoqualmie Pass in the snow, not far from you.
Being a lifetime #Wisconsinite I love watching people refer to 3 to 7 inch forecasts as a “Snowmageddon”. Yes I get that areas that don’t regularly see weather like this are not equipped to deal with it, but, I still enjoy it. :-)
we had a bit of that storm here in Vancouver but not that much snow and was pretty much gone the next day with rain.
Being a Georgian Bay, Canada boater I have seen snow on the boat before but not in this quantity. We only boat from early May until late October
My first dish with Chef John was mussels, I never looked back always my go to for everything I like.
Awesome video today and yes I remember snow from living in Magnolia next to Fort Lawton (DISCOVERY PARK) we could ski and slide because we live on a downhill loop and closed to cars.
Chef John is hilarious.
Lots of fun seeing your snow days, but I did miss Shawn’s Q&A. Would like to hear about cold and snow effect on boat; did heat, water, fuel, humidity, electrical, and electronic systems all work OK?
Oh yeah everything was fine, the boat stayed nice and warm. Plus the great thing about snow here is that it lasted about 2 days 👍
The Sarah McLaughlin-esque black and white puppy shot earned you a sub LOL
Did you here about Friday Harbor? One of the docks with about 10 boat houses collapsed from the snow and crushed the boats inside. My brother in law s boat was only 30’ away moored on another dock!
Yeah that was horrible to hear!
Beautiful, love the snow. Thanks for the views.
I shoveled out my entire dock day 1, then again day 2.... getting old sucks... just inside the ship locks seattle
I hate snow too used to truck in it in the mountains got 6 inches here in Weirs beach G
Sully is quickly becoming one of my favorite Tijuana Nacho Hounds!
Mmmm...comfort food. Yum!
The cart was a great idea. It created a path with little snow on a even path. like cross country groomed trail.

Generally around the West Coast the ice is from the fresh water layer from nearby streams and such
I listen to a Food Wishes all the time
Hey guys Michael here just wanted to say Hi and thanks for the video , And I love pizza don't get me wrong. But I very much like chicken tortilla soup because I am from Texas. And I really enjoy you guys videos keep them coming so be safe out there and be inspired.

6:04 is the best... hes not having it. : ) i take it back, the snow boots are the best, hahahaha
So PNW/west side, snow then gone with in 24-48 (+/-) ....Anacortes,Wa. Love it !!

OH MY GOSH, Sully cracks me UP!!! Hilarious!!! Maybe he's not a snowshoeing dog!
btw, good thing Sully did NOT mark the Dino! THAT would be awkWARD!
As you have a vacuum sealer, have you ever tryed sous vide cooking on or off boat?
No but we’ve thought about it!
But does think crust make you smarter??
When you do snow you do it the American way - over the top :) Here in the marina in Scotland, we have just said goodbye to 1in of ice.
My flying bridge canvas mildewed even with heat on in the cabin :( I'm happy to have the snow stay up at Mt. Baker and off the boat!
Sully: It's cold and I just want to be cozy warm.
Been in WA for over 45 years and since 2010 there has been snow every year except for 2015 and I am in Gig Harbor on the water.
How do you heat the boat and do you heat the engine room to keep your fresh water from freezing. I often wondered about how you all keep warm
Snow is always pretty the first day and maybe day 2 but after that it just sucks. That's the marina we bought our 42 foot sailboat out of back in 2000 before we said to HI. Very little snow there.

Haha, I wrote that about the snow and before I got to the snow dinosaur.
I knew the Captain was going to remove every drop of Snow on that Boat !
Reminds me bringing my 33’40 April 1 in Mc Henry Il
It was a crazy 48 hours here! Did you stay warm enough? Thinking of you guys today in this wind storm....clocking over 40 knots! Stay safe!!
Yeah the boat was nice and warm! But the wind lately is NUTS! The boat sure was moving!
Once again another great video. How is your studying going on your Captains LICENSE?
Going into high gear this week!
Yes, I would like to hear your thoughts on the training facility you selected.
Six inches of snow pfffft. That's when they start to plow the roads around here.. Besides on the on the dock in the snow where does Sully go, especially during a long passage?

Out of interest, how much extra weight does this put on the boat for each inch of snow? And can this be a problem if over a certain height? Cheers
Not sure, but it was gone faster than it came.

The snow in WI is getting quite high!
Shawn: What are your thoughts on freezing seacocks, engine cooling, water lines, tanks, water maker etc? Also the use of heads?
How come you guys not wearing a seatbelt????
Beautiful!
OK, I have to know what camera you are using out in the snow that you are not worried about getting wet.
IPhone 👍
excellent video thank you for sharing I guess Shawn pizza Elizabeth tortilla soup
Excellent music
You make me laugh....veggies and a bite of Sean’s pizza then a chocolate chip muffin😜
Trying to keep it balanced 😉
That's the 3 basic food groups. Once you have that covered, you're good. If you have beer.
Hey! Welcome to our world!
Can you post a link for the chicken tortilla soup recipe? Looks awesome.
I really enjoyed your choice of music in this episode Elizabeth! Nice. Snow looks nice. Was there any chance of a freeze of the marina while you were there? At what temp would that have happened? Can you ask Shawn? See you next episode !
Oh l forgot to say you won't sink in the snow either. Thank you guys..
Far to cold for me.Thank goodness I live in sunny Queensland Australia. But again a great video.
Latitude matters!
