I've always found a good judge of character is how many times someone says, "I." This guy is clearly all about himself and how great he is. I've never liked people like that and never will. "I have so much knowledge." "I can prototype so fast." Meh. He'll make his money. Most people won't care. Luckily this space is big enough to avoid scheisters like this if you want to and you won't miss out on anything. He doesn't make a single thing that's unique or makes me want to get his over someone else's.
Great episode- I often find myself on the “less popular” side of the fence when it comes to some of these topics and I identified with several of the points made here.
Good interview, enjoyed learning more about Mario and Force 6. Whichever storage solution you prefer, go with that one, can't go wrong either way. Idk if this is exactly the same comparison, but I think about this situation like barbells. Would the gym equipment space be as good if the first company that ever produced a barbell was still the only company making barbells? Probably not. Same thoughts for squat racks, plates, etc. We all appreciate having options.
I’m not gonna front- in starting to see all the politics in the homegym game. It’s really a trip to hear this interview and now my eyes are really open to a degree. I went to the last homegymcon and going to this years and it’ll be good to see all these manufactures again after seeing this video
I mean if we wanna get technical, I believe Darko got his design from the fishing pole hangers people use to store their rods overhead on a floor joist or rafter. So he kinda stole that idea, just modified it to hold barbells. People are constantly trying to make something a little better or more desirable. That is literally what the market does. It provides choices and allows people to spend their money accordingly.
@@patrickmurphy8008 I get it,, and that could be the case.. however if it is a shoddy product people won't buy it or he won't be able to continue to sell it if it is indeed of poor quality...The market will decide either way. Great point though 🫡
When people talk in circles like this, they’re usually trying to avoid actual addressing the issue in question. He has zero problem emulating smaller manufacturers, just seems like he lacks a moral compass. Jake, to be clear, I respect your effort to be fair, hear a side of a story and try to be impartial.
I kind of see what you mean there and then as I was thinking about it, he says yeah but mine holds four bar barbells, but Darko also had a double anchor. so Darko made a version that holds four bars as well it’s just not as popular and I think he mainly sells the regular anchor now that holds just two. So but it’s not to say that Darko didn’t have a four bar holder. He has or had a four bar holder too, so someone might say well why don’t you collaborate with Darko and make his a double wide anchor that’s low profile or 1 deep only but holds four across. It’s just a thought since he could since he said he could CAD something really quick for Darko and have Darko‘s dumbbell rack done in a couple hours maybe that would benefit both of them. They could have possibly collaborate on that and get exposure for both of their companies to his points since it seems like he knew the anchor already existed
Why are “knock off mag grips” more socially acceptable in the home gym community than other products that have been similarly replicated? Lots of YT content creators casually refer to having knock off mags or recommend them in budget gym build out videos. Yes the mags are more expensive but they are a superior product. The only difference is that the inventor isn’t active on Reddit/Discord/YT.
Prime has a 1 year lead time and is a world apart in scale vs Darko, I don't feel bad for Coke when there's a store brand cola. They have the power to patent anything, he doesn't.
Great conversation. I love Darkos products and I can see both viewpoints. I think the take home is to have meaningful conversations with the companies before bashing one another.
Idk Mario or darko. Checked out his website and I’m not his target base, but I think if he spent time toward innovating products that helped you achieve strength, he wouldn’t have to be defending himself this much.
I still think this is a bad response to the situation with Darko. He’s basically saying “everyone copies, so that makes it ok”. He can run his business how he sees fit and ethical competition is a good thing, but blaming the system is a cop out. He does have interesting things to say about how partnerships don’t always serve both sides as well as you might think, but that also depends on the goals of the partnership. Mutant Metals has repeatedly said that the deal with Rogue has freed up capacity to work on new products and focus on family. He’s also right that there are elements of the home gym community that aren’t welcoming or burn bridges, but I don’t see Mario engaging with the community in good faith. It comes across as him saying “y’all suck” which is an odd approach for someone running a company in this space.
This dude is gross. He not only copied darko's products but copies his nomenclature with names like "anchor" and "dock" He pretends to weld stuff in his garage in ads but its imported made in China, so it's disingenuous. He doesnt like HGD because it's a savvy group of people who can see thru the BS.
Meh I like Mario. He is making new products at speed these days , interesting products , better products. The rage over him making a "longer Anchor" is ridiculous and mainly just HGD defending one of their own
Really great interview! Good to see Mario's take on the situation.
Thanks for checking in

I enjoyed the listen. Interesting to hear a different take on some things.
Thank you for listening
Glad to hear his side of the story. Consumers for the most part wants the best deal.
He is not wrong. But a lot of people who tune in are not ready to hear this message.
I hope people listen and are able to form their own opinions.
Agreed...the home gym market will grow and will have improvements on original designs. No different from any industry and markets - Capitalism 🤷🏾♂️
@mikeb.thewatcher his anchor is worse and MiC for a similar price as the made in US equivalent

@@patrickmurphy8008 for a 4 barbell anchor? You might want to check again.

Same concept with the Prime rot8 and 3in1/4in1 grips.

@@patrickmurphy8008 you should email them. The lead time on the handles is 3-5 days and the stability pad is 15.
I recently picked up some force 6 products and the quality is amazing. Will have a few shorts coming out soon over them.
Which ones?

Its different enough. I perfer darkos because the color options but i dont think this was nefarious.
Darko's is definitely a more premium option & better looking in my opinion.
