I can't agree. At 100% fan speed I would've expected max 65 degrees with that beefy cooler.
@@sarwarjahan2903 That's literally impossible unless the computer is in a freezer. These coolers are not built for 500W. They are overbuilt for a 350W card, but 500W is beyond what they can handle at tolerable fan speeds. I have the hybrid kit for mine, and 60C is normal at 450W with fans at 60%.
@@Aurummorituri Asus likes to close off their side too much with fancy plastic, just a quick look at FTW3 unobstructed and huge heatsink will show the difference. I too can confirm lower temps on my FTW3, but i'm tired of the shortcomings that are being discussed in this video as i'm another "victim" of this whole fiasco.
So with that said i found a Strix at old pre-increase MSRP, i ordered it without blinking and poor FTW3 is going back. Maybe i'll watercool anyway.
@@Gr1mPenguin My FTW3 could hit 480W in Control, so I don't think my card was limiting itself with load balancing very much. Plus if you can undervolt and drop that usage, why not? Got mine at at 2070MHz stable at just .975V with a peak consumption in CP2077 of 436W. (The 20C drop from air did drop power draw by almost 30W)
Not convinced this is a hard lock on EVGA's side. I've flashed the 500W BIOS on my FTW3 Ultra and getting 13085 points in Fire Strike Ultra and 482Watt peak power draw. There might be something else going on.
That's because it's a lottery, but that's also wrong in itself.
He proved what eVGA has in the meantime acknowledged: they fucked up. There is a thread in the US forum about 3090 FTW3 Xoc Bios with enough people claiming their cards are sucking - so is mine, card Nr4 from RMA. So dump that shit and get a decent product.

If Amd allows Asus to release a 6900XT version this thing is Doa. That thing will probably hit 2.4+ Ghz.

Congrats you just assumed that a vaporware 6900XT would cost 1000 usd and not 1200+ at least for the extreme limited availability of first two months.. Like how 3090 is.. So .. It's more like 1000 vs 1500 usd and we will have to wait and see if actually the claims of AMD about 6900XT are true and if RT performance will be similar..

May you compare your 3090 Strix, overcloked to the max with the 480W power limit then shunt-modded, and watercooled if possible with your EVGA RTX 3080 XC super-modded ? I would like to know if there will be a 20 % difference ? If you shunt-mod the Strix, may you do a video of the shunts you modified ?
And if you are willing to push the Strix to its extreme limits, you will have to buy an Elmor EVC2S to increase the GPU voltage : it can be easily plugged on the Strix card (see a der8auer video with the 3090 TUF : he used this device and was able to apply + 80 mV on the GPU and attain 2130 Mhz on air). Moreover, the Strix has a few voltage measure points at the back of the PCB : with a multimeter, you will be able to see the actual GPU voltage, because software is not always accurate. Of course, a video of the voltage-mod would be appreciated too.
I would be interested in all of that because it is what I intend to do when I will receive my Strix card. The Strix is definitely the best Ampere card.

I have the FTW3 3090 ULTRA and mine does hit the 500 watts without any issues. There are two different bios for the 500w, one for the FTW3 3090 and the other one is FTW3 3090 ULTRA. I also happen to have a strix OC 3090 and that thing is much louder than FTW3 , strix having 2 HDMI's is a big thing though , i would deal with the noise if i can have double 4k@120hz vs a limited only 1 4k@120hz
I got a Strix OC two days ago but it was a dud. Was planning on selling my FE when I finally got it but ended up keeping the FE. Hopefully you have better luck. :) just goes to show the silicon lottery is more important than the power limit.

What bios is correct for the Asus 3090 rog strix OC , EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 ULTRA OC bios? I tried to flash, but it said no compatible hardware found. Yes i did disable the signature lock.

im suckin down 540w on my oc on my gaming x trio.. chillin at 2085 all day in game, on air and 95% fans curve 70c long soak tested. bios modded.. from unreleased bios. I am impressed.
Your microphone would sound better with a couple compressor and expander filters to eliminate the background noise, limit the peaks, and raise the lows. Every time you trigger your noise gate you hear the fan drone. Not only was I able to get rid of my noise gate with compressors and expanders, but eliminated fan noise totally.

and one x570 motherboard =)) Ryzen is the fastest for workstation. Different tools for different jobs

It's correct, I also chose that graphics card because it had two hdmi and because it is supposed to be the most powerful of the 3090
Have you tried the kingpin bios?
Yep works fine, no temp throttling though so if your fans/pump die and the thing overheats it won’t try to save itself. You can usually flash it on one of the bios switches for 4k gaming mode then switch it back to regular bios when you don’t need the unlimited power limit

If you think that’s big, wait till you see the xtreme. Unfortunately the xtreme’s entire cooling setup is hot garbage. Instathrottle at 110C TJ mem when mining eth. On the strix it doesn’t exceed 98C...I have both cards.

I have no idea, honestly it’s completely random, it’s not necessarily brand or card based. Sometimes the machine just sucks at applying it or it’s a bad batch etc. Just luck of the draw. Repasting isn’t difficult, I do it on every new card I get anyway. Never trust stock paste jobs. They use toothpaste because it’s cheap af
oooh man its funny seeing a later vid of you talking about spending $1800 on a card from evga, and you're so pissed at what they did you want to cost them at least $10000 and as many sales as you can. the progression of how pissed you got from this point is great as a viewer, and it also shows that you as a hardware and gaming enthusiast, actually care to hold these companies accountable for their present actions, even if they've been good in the past
great video I've had sniped MSI RTX 3090 SUPRIM X , it was 400Euro cheaper then Asus rtx3090 Rog Strix, so I think yeah great pick. It will arrive on 12.4.2021 can't wait :) I will test resizable bar function too, will update mobo & gpu bios for supporting it etc. toggle on resizable bar in mobo bios :) Will you please test this incremental upgrade on rtx 3xxx cards difference ? :P from 3 to 10% max difference most likely 2-6% maybe only

one question . I recently assembled a system whose graphics card is this model. The case is off but three red lights on the connectors are on. What do these red lights indicate? I saw on TH-cam that the lights are flashing. What are the indicators if they are blinking?
Hey man I like your channel. I got a question for you as I've been really trying to read and study what my best option is. Ive got the Asus EK variant of the 3090. It comes with block installed. Only 2x8 pin. I'm not really comfortable with the idea of shunt modding or anything like that. I just want a little bit more power so that my overclocks don't crash. Can you suggest a good bios for me?
Wouldn't you just shunt mod the EVGA FTW3 rails rather than PCIe slot so that you can get the load balance back to 50/150 and pull more from the rails and maybe keeping the extra 30W from the PCIe without sending it north of 80W?

No doubt it’s the fastest. Amd should’ve made the 6900xt $650 to compete with the 3080 because at least they would win enough in rasterization to make up for the worse drivers, worse memory, and worse ray tracing performance. The 6800xt doesn’t make sense to me when you can just get a 3080 for $50 more and get similar rasterization performance (just slightly worse) but better in every other way.

Jufus have you thought about getting a 6900xtxh chip? I hear guys are getting 2900mhz+ core clocks out of them on water. Newegg runs deals on the Asrock OC formula card for around $1500 quite a often.

My EVGA FTW3 Ultra came last week. I haven't flashed it. The card runs great but is no faster than any other 3090 out there and you are paying 400-450 more than you should. At least you are not paying scalper prices at least but I found it odd the notification system rolled out all 3090 FTW3 ultras first. EVGA is dead silent on the forum yet they post everyday on Twitter. I asked them for answers directly and got nothing. In my opinion and being in business for as long as I have specially engineering I sense their engineers made critical errors. They came up with a queue system to generate extra capital to pay their engineers to fix their product behind the scenes and cover the overhead of the many RMAs they are covering. Their forum post with the new bios states that the bios intended for extreme overclockers and does not guarantee performance. They are trying to push ppl to kingpins aka even larger profit margins and I bet they will allow a step up for the people with the FTW3 to the Kingpin which means getting the bad cards in, more profit for the upgrade and repair the old ones and resell in their used stores...🤫
It doesn’t seem like this was done on purpose by EVGA. If it was, why would they release the 500watt bios for the card? I have a 3090 FTW3 Ultra, so I’m really hoping they find a software solution to correct this issue. 🙏
I agree with this, somewhere along the line I think an engineer just pressed the wrong buttons on his keyboard when doing load balancing math and no one caught it until now with the release of higher bios
@@FrameChasers Naw, they also put 10 amp fuses on pci-e instead of 20amp like every single other vendor uses and then additionally lock the ratio with higher draw on the pci-e? (you should do the opposite with a lower rated fuse!!!) They are clearly trying to artificially cap performance to push people towards the kingpin.
They've also been aware of this for weeks now since the same thing happens with the 3080ftw xoc bios which released a week earlier and they still have 0 acknowledgment of an issue. If this was a mistake in good faith they would be all over responding.
Once upon a time Intel fan boys were behaving the same way you do for the AMD CPUs but now, they know their place and keep their voice low lol. You never know what Dr. Lisa SU will bring in her pocket. In my opinion both companies; AMD & Nvidia will have their advantages and disadvantages for their 6900xt & 3090 but for sure there will be no winner this season. I am an nvidia/intel user and will be in the future aswell but still it's better not say big words ;)
NVENC for streaming/recording, solid DLSS support vs none on AMD and significantly better RTX performance on the Nvidia card is what makes Nvidia a clear winner this season in my opinion. AMD is one generation behind on their RTX/DLSS tech so unfortunately there's gonna be early adopter issues (meaning hardly any games supporting it) like Nvidia had with their RTX 20 series. Maybe next year when AMD's RT and DLSS matures it will be a more fair match-up. Also AMD really needs some kind of NVENC equivalent for OBS.
@@padman6074 Yea I get it for your situation Nvidia is good but in the other hand;
1) RTX is out for how long? 3 years now on, how many games supported RTX in those 3 years have you counted? And how many new incoming games gonna support RTX do you have any idea? Game companies still are not ready for RTX even tough these GPU companies promised there will be Raytracing games coming in those years.Hence skip RTX, thats just a tiny little detail for marketing strategy for now and will be for the next couple of years. Besides that its not a game changer technology yet, its hard to see the difference between a RTX and a non RTX game in my opinion.
2) How many gamers are there on earth? Lets say 100million, do you think even 2% of them recording and streaming and in need of NVENC etc stuff and what about the rest of the majority that is 98%? There is your answer, if you are a streamer nvidia is good for you but if you are not, it means nothing to you. It's important to see the majority in the picture.

Has anyone had any driver issues with the EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra with the newest 457.09 driver? Wasn't having issues before but now MW and DCS world are having nvidia driver crashes that require a reboot. Can't even get into Nvidia control panel without restarting, so i know its pure driver related. I tried rolling back and still plagued with the issue.

Did you flash the stock 3090 FTW3 ultra bios onto this card then used EVGAs software to flash the 500w bios like you did in the 3080 video? Or does it just flash no issue? Haven't got a card on hand to test yet but have one on the way otherwise I'd have tried already, just trying to get as much info as possible before it gets here. Thanks.

you think this card with the custom bios gets too hot to game on at 500W? im wondering if u would have to water cool this to run it at 500W while gaming
naw after watching it again, notice how the stock bios runs the card at 1v whereas the 500w bios runs the card a 1083mv, thats why it was so much hotter. I guess because the card isnt sensing power draw from the third connector its overvolting the shit out of it unecessarily like a mini shunt, so a voltage lock in afterburner would be the way to go. Then again honestly were talking 20 watts here, its not even worth bothering
nope nevermind, I flashed it back and its still running at 75c+, I think I probably got a defective mounted one or its using trash paste, I will take it apart and repaste it later

I’m assuming it was the same crap as the XC3, I got a 10 degree drop with a repaste. Half of these cards seem to have shit paste jobs from the factory. But my ftw3 didn’t go above 65c factory
@@FrameChasers ty for replies, keep it up man! Only channel doing this type of dirty work for these cards. Its what the ppl want . The attention to detail and scenarios for testing on the 3080 and 3090 are basically using to decide between AMD and NVIDIA this year. Looking to me like the 3080 or 3090 with custom bios, DLSS, and RTX is going to be the way to go. I have a 4k monitor that hits 120 HZ unoverclocked, and 90hz 10bit HDR. Running at a lower resolution, using DLSS, and turning on RTX is starting to seem like a better gaming experience than just 4k max settings. The performance u can squeeze out of these cards is kinda nuts. I have a 1600 W supernova for no reason, so im ready to push out 500 Watts and heat my room this winter lol.

Does your Strix also have terrible coil whine under load? Most people are reporting this so I went with FTW3 instead which only has minor coil whine.
I’d say the coil whine on them is the same, coil whine doesn’t really bother me though, I used to have a Vega56 that made my ears bleed so these are almost inaudible compared to that mess

My pc states the Asus 3090 strix is not compatible or "no compatible divice" to update the bios. How did you manage to successfully update the bios for the Strix with Evga bios?

I think it only competes when you buy a new CPU, Motherboard and GPU, which in my books is utterly stupid marketing, they are forcing people to spend more to get similar performance to Nvidia and locking them into the AMD ecosystem. This move will backfire on AMD mark my words..
@@choatus Yeah they did use rage mode and smart access memory for the charts, but from the 6800xt with the same boosts its adds from 4-13% on some titles. If thats the case it should be still very close competition especially for 600$ less
