DIY Color Changing Coffee Mug!!

- Some of you guys asked a while back if I could make a color changing coffee mug and here it is!! It's a little different compared to my face changing mug since this pigment reacts to cold water, compared to the original mug that reacts to hot water.
There are other types of pigment that react to hot water but I used my left over pigment from my color changing goo project.
These make great holiday gifts!! I'm actually planning on giving these mugs to some friends for the holidays!! What gift project do you want to see me make next?

you directly use nailpolish ? what pigment do you use?
hey really nice work ,,,can the same process be used to do paint work on cars or automobiles....like temprature sensitive paints stuff on automobiles...
This video was so helpful. I am excited to try this. I am interested in drawing an image on a coffee mug with sharpies and then I want to paint over the entire mug. I want to have a teal looking mug when I am done. Do I just mix teal thermochromatic with the modge podge sealer and paint the entire mug with it? Does the modge podge give it a glossy look when done?
are these dishwasher safe doing this way ?
Hi. I'm am a serious coffee head and always loved the idea of creating custom cups. I love the water color effect on the plain white mug. I wanted to know if you can or how to make a water color cup also using sharpie and glitter. Also would I still bake it with the mod Podge?

halo, can you tell me is there any thermochromic clear pigmen to black or other colors?
Could I use any paint or does it have to be white? Was going to use Red paint
Does the color change work the same way when hot or cold liquid is used?

Outstanding vid! Hey, I'm an acrylic artist and I want to somehow take a mini canvas design and put it on a mug or Chrystal since they are very bright colors. I might have to use one of those heat press machines to transfer a phone onto the cup...how would you do it? And if I wanted to draw acrylic only to Chrystal...there seem to be rough 'globs' of paint - not clumps but something you would want to 'sand down ' to make it a smooth flat surface...you know paint! How would you do that?

I know this is a really old video but i had a cup gifted to me thats colour changing.
In hot water when washing it unpeeled off like a gluey sticker. It made my house stink too.
Do you know what could have been used to cause such a strong smell and be so sensitive to hot water?

Ray, I have a quick question:
Does the powder change to a specific colour? And if it does, instead of using white, could I use black? Like if I wanted to do a base colour of black, but I don't want the colour changing area to stand out because it was white, would it work if I used white with the colour changing pigment?

I need the paint to go from white to black when liquid is poured. Anyone know where I can get that?
What if you put neverwet on the mug to make to make the parts that isn't part of the design and when you put a cold drink in, the condensation from the coldness of the water makes a design and the parts that isn't wet is from the neverwet stuff? It's a weird thought but it work.
I just made a mug with acrylic paint. It didn’t turn out black like I wanted and it’s not shiny. It’s matte grey. Any other thoughts? Can I now use some gloss paint or something? I sublimate on them. Not sure the paint will come off with water or not work right. Going to try it and I’ll let you know but please how do I get it the black and also matte?

Yes! But I think most people use mugs because you're using hot water so you're going to get the best effect with the temperature change :)
I absolutely love this idea!!! Do you know if for the watercolor one of you could just use color changing nail polish, because I really want to make these but I am unable to get the thermocromic powdee

What happens if i put a bigger amount of that powder wouldnt the colors be more vibrant ??
+Ahmad Fawaz If you add more powder the paint becomes a bit thicker and the colors do become a bit darker. If you're mixing it with white paint or nail polish it might not come out as white.
