FPS first person shooter games like the finals, call of duty/cod/black ops/modern warfare, battlefield, battle royale games have had issues lately with skins, lack of free content, loot boxes, microtransacitons, monetization, and many other aspects of their weapons and guns and things. These games are dying and making it so people say that video games and gaming aren't fun anymore. I think the cause of this can be linked to tiktok, funny tiktoks, subway surfers, and family guy funny moments as I explain in the video. Games have crazy metas, like the best meta and guns and gadgets in the finals. Is the finals dying? Is Call Of Duty dead? Competitive scenes and valorant and counter strike cs csgo get stale because of the metas and best things and guns and strategies. Idk what I'm typing at this point but it's about the video and fps games for sure.

@@xerathion Exactly! The Finals isn't dying as a game, but the hype around its release is dying down and the people who tried it but weren't that interested in it are leaving. Not to mention the game hasn't even gotten its first big content update/season yet.
I think a worse thing that is happening to The Finals and just online games in general across all genres are the doom and gloom "IS X GAME DYING? :O" videos that are just pointing at steam chart player counts and saying that the game is "dead" and its already irrelevant.
Raycevik has a great video on how population and player counts isn't the most important thing when it comes to if an online game is dead.

I stop playing a shooter when the cheating scene picks up. With everyone using SBMM these days or rank mode once you hit a certain threshold, it feels like almost every match has a rage cheater.
The Finals for example is plagued with cheaters to the point they actively taunt and flaunt their next to zero % catch rate. Combined with the abuse of tools that allow KB/M to get controller AA and the genre gets exhausting for folks who routinely push high ranks and skill levels.

The finals is an instant classic, I have yet to once rage quit or get burn out from playing 8 hr days since full release, everything is balanced and counterable, threw either your load out or team composition and play style, every map feels mew and refreshing because of the destruction, only map I don’t like a whole lot is the Las Vegas map, I love the concept how were contestants on a game show, I love how we explode in a pile of coins, not a whole lot or over complication , we’re as games like call of duty have a million attachments and even though there is a huge variety our forced to only be able to use 5 attachments on each gun because trying anything new will ensure your timely demise, where as the finals rewards and incentives trying new things people won’t be expecting

  • @deRoyLight

Lol. Weak progression systems are not the problem. People played FPS at an all-time high before progression systems ever existed. What has killed FPS games is matchmaking, and the constant force into 50% winrate. Win too much? Get punished with worse teams until you're back down to 50%. Suck too much? Get better teammates until you're up to 50%. Somehow defy the odds and persist at a higher winrate than 50%? Congrats, eventually you're at the top and now your Q times are literally half an hour in some games. It's a meaningless grind. Back in the day, if you were good you won games, if you were bad you lost games, and if you wanted to get better you had to practice. There is no longer meaning to FPS games because everyone is equally unsatisfied with 50%.

When we played quake and unreal tournament there was no progression(meaning achievements unlocks ,skins) , but they were small communities that you met people ,help each other and have fun. We played for hours same maps over and over again and we wanted to get better. No one cared about skins cosmetics achievements and etc. Now this generation is spoiled with progression and unlockables spamming your screen with medals ,dogtags bla bla bla. An fps is good when the core gameplay is good !!! The finals has some new ideas, some old ideas and elements from other fps games combined in a new package. However the cheating(biggest problem that could kill a new fps game) , the social media and the streamers moving into something new has influence on many players and the decision to quit and move on playing something else .. cause its trending. In the end i forsee the finals having a small amount of players, having fun or try to get better in the game unti it dies . Thats the truth im afraid...

I agree with you about the games not having community. The game makes it hard to find long term twammates through solo queu.
In old games you had giant server lists that you would end up finding a home server on.
Some game dev should come up with a way to make a server progression system that encourages people to interact.

As for me, the BF3/4 has the best progress system. The player has a lot to strive for and getting new titles, he gets new guns, and if he bought DLC (they were bought there), then he got access to special tasks that were completed in a couple of days, and after completing them he got weapons again. Plus, there were various tokens and medals that could be obtained, again, by completing pre-prepared tasks. And all this could be hung on your fighter and profile and show off, because some buns are really difficult to get. And also, as for me, the reason why modern games are not as cool as they used to be is because they have a falling quality level of everything! Gameplay, optimization, progression system, dumb single-player plot, plus LGBT agenda and trends, by the type of battle royale and heroes. Game companies don't want to do something new, experiment and improve game mechanics. They want to make a safe game that won't offend anyone, and also that has everything that is popular now and they don't care if it doesn't suit the game, and they will also try to make it as cheap and stuffy as possible for ordinary players and cram in as much monetization as possible.

I dont think u can compare arena shooters to extraction/larger world fps.
We don’t know yet with the Finals, but theres no gun unlocks for valorant or CS, people ;lay those to get better and to just have fun. We’ll have to see if theres a community for the fun of it w/ the finals because of the lack of e-sports/ money cosmetic.
Embarks next game, being a Planetside 3 meets battlefied with full destruction would be dope af tho, it would be much more of a game i would sink hundreds of hours into (it could be the finals version of that ready player one pvp only zone)

I think one of the contributing factors is that most people find one thing that works for them in these games and then wonder why the game feels stale, when they won't try anything else. Like a few of my friends back on MW2019 refused to put down the M4A1 and complained that they game was stale. Like pickup a shotgun and run dead silence, or be an asshole and try an all explosive playstyle. Not the main reason but of them IMO

    Translated by Google:
My problem with FPS is that if you are a newbie or have no experience in the genre, you will never get used to it or be happy because to play this type of game you have to have requirements that are crucial and that are unattainable:
Have experience in using different types of weapons, which are all of them.
Know ideal complex strategies and tactics
Having communication, the problem is that no one communicates and language matters a lot.
Manage ammunition so you don't spend it all.
    Have survival skills.
Have game modes and maps memorized.
Correctly use all types of gadgets and gadgets, which are all of them.
Know how to defend yourself from rivals.
    Have fine aim.
As you see a high peak of requirements that you will not learn naturally or daily because you will die constantly.
I stayed with multiplayer racing games because you don't need as many requirements to play as FPS games because the only requirements you need are:
    Know how to drive correctly.
    Have the tracks memorized.
    Know how to stop.

The play test a probly be summer, they had their chance... Plenty of em, if & when this game dies out, it'll be they're own fault for opening their mouths waaaay too soon, which game studios would stfu, put a beta out with a announcement, check feedback & not give any dates until they are actually launching the game. So many people moved on or just said f FPS games & I can't blame em. I'm one of them who are done with FPS PvPs but every now & then I get that itch again & feel the need to vent as it's the next best thing. Logical, even obvious, core observation, but what a brilliant presentation and breadth of evidence with even some game recs sprinkled in. Just greatly appreciated. I think The Finals is such an interesting example in this case. It's never a "missed opportunity" until the servers get shut down, but the Finals lore already feels kinda deep. So "easy" to do (right?) to lean into that. Fictional sponsorships, career modes, etc. I'll leave it to creative people to figure out, but it does feel like there's the potential to create a whole other dimension or even parallel game, possibly even beyond what other FPS games have done in the past. To your point, the idea would be some sort of engaging progression system. Any sort. But yeah, fantastic vid. Thanks.

I know, two different types of games, but at the end, my time to play is limited.
I love the slower pace of EFT.
Fast pace THE FINALS is good, too. But after a hard working day, EFT is my answer.
EFT & Hunt Showdown -> perfect gameplay loop -> great progression system -> great content
THE FINALS -> perfect gameplay loop -> poor progression system -> low on content
Don't get me wrong, I hope THE FINALS will bring up many many Maps and much much more Skins for individualizing everyones characters.

Tbh I was ready to disagree but I got very convinced, very good conclusion and great video overall.
As games had become less grindy, and easier to experience to the fullest, it made players get bored of it quicker because they finished their goals and had their fun. And replacing gameplay elements with cosmetics as goals doesn't work as well, because not everyone would care enough to grind for cosmetics, but almost everyone would care about new ways to play.
Grinding can be boring but it is what makes you play more of the game that you enjoy in the first place.
So, a little grind in fps games can help.

i would agree tho that going to a match, shooting some guys and the match ends is what makes fps boring. though, i think that one reason why csgo, valorant, apex, pubg, rust and even tarkov is still alive and popular till this day is because they are more unpredictable or it gives more ways to outplay the other players.
one reason why i think the finals would last for at least 1-2 months only is because the game doesnt really give you creativity to do something cool or it doesnt really give you other ways of outplaying other players. like, at the end of the day, the person with a better aim will win.
i think that one of the games that did this well is overwatch specially back in 2016 to 2018 where even if you are really bad at the game but doing little things such as timing your ult at the right time at the right place or just healing your team properly or just managing to kill the support at the back could determine if you are going to win the game or not.
like yeah, players will eventually find a way to optimize their gameplay to get a easy W but thats one reason why those games have buffing and nerfing of characters, to constantly make the players find the most optimal way of playing or ways of strategizing.
i think thats the reason as well why csgo or cs2 still top 1-3 in steam charts even though theres no progression, no content (for the past 4 months i think), and not even a change. they are still popular is because every match is not really the same as the last match. there are too many variables that could determine if your are going to win or not.
and lastly, i think that the finals can actually maintain their popularity if
    1. they added more gamemodes such as capture the flag or that one gamemode where who holds the object longer wins the game (donno what its called)
    2. add more playstyles like what tf2 did in each class they made because currently light class is just a mosquito, medium is just aim trainer, and heavy is the one who blows up the fucking building
and its most of the time, theres not much ways to have teamwork in the game.

You don't need to artificially extend the life time with a progression system like bf, you just need a solid ranked system. The problem is there's no value to the rank beacause the matchmaking is fked and you can't lose elo. From my pov they don't want to drive the game towards competitive integrity with how they designed some game mechanics anyway.
I love extraction shooters but they are a completely different genre it's not even comparable.

FPS is dying because of terrible micro transactions gatekeeping anything worth playing for and skill based matchmaking being cranked to 100. There’s no such thing as casual gaming anymore, if you’re half decent at any FPS MP games you get lodged in with the sweats and don’t get me wrong it’s cool to play with similarly skilled players and makes for competitive matches, but that’s for ranked, not casual or quick play. The way they turn the SBMM to the max on any new games is atrocious and really honestly shows with the replay value of some of these games. COD has been washed for years with this being a big reason nobody is enjoying their stale games.
Almost zero social features when it comes to lobbies and creating an environment where people want to connect and game together.
I mean how can these game devs and designers expect to capture the attention of gamers the way they did for games like cod 4/halo2 & 3? The real Modern warfare 2? Battlefield of the old days?
I honestly don’t think they can. It’s too far gone at this point. I’d be very surprised if a game came out that dealt away with the skill based matchmaking in casual game modes and instead focused on pairing based on connection/ping.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk about modern FPS multiplayer games.

Gotta agree that progression is the main issue. I’d also say not having anything at stake long term doesn’t help. Yeah, losing in the finals sucks and all, but honestly people play that game to do silly stuff and blow people up, not to win. It’s engaging to a point, but wears off after a while. I think that’s also what makes hunt and tarkov so attractive to a lot of people. You feel like something is at stake and when you die you feel like you gotta recoup your losses instead of being like “oh well.”

you forgot to mention cheaters are play role for dieing game / ranked had alot of cheaters or so depending on game so it is entire cycle at current model + game being for free also means cheaters can become problem as game becomes more and more popular and many people like me who sees fps free to play already decides it is waste of time as cheaters will come soon and will feel like dev don't care about them and leading them to dieing entire game as nobody wants to play game where they can't get any good no matter what vs other player aka look at leaderborads at finals and you will see most of " top players " are cheaters = hard core fans quit and people who want to get game relizing game is ringed = they switch to other game or quit all together gaming

    • @Spyderrock
      @Spyderrock  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Games don’t need progression, but I think it’s a good means to an end to add longevity. If a game is truly great/iconic, something like tf2, it can be kept alive by its community and those who like it a lot. Most games can’t do that though sadly

  • @Lefiath
    @Lefiath 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think this is actually a pretty telling thing, that you don't seem to realize - if you need an arbitrary checklist to complete, and don't enjoy the core gameplay on its own after you are done with the progression, it just shows you that you weren't interested in the game long term, your are just looking to kill time.
Adding more progression is not a solution, I think it's pretty scary and backwards thinking. I value and cherish those few games I can go back and just enjoy, like Battlefield 1, because they offer rich and challenging gameplay that ticks with me.
I completely disagree with the idea, you are just advocating for people to try to form connections with something that's shouldn't be there to begin with - long term connection with a game? Sounds like a nightmare to me, and a corporation's wet dream to monetize. I just play games to have fun.

    *progression and accomplishment is key*
*CSGO(CS2)* : 1 millions players playing at the same time at any given time.
no progressions, no accomplishments, just play 2-3 strats every rounds on every matches for thousands of hours of gameplay.
so yeah it's more than that, *The Finals* is an amazing game, completely playable, devs listen to players, released 3 patches in the last week alone, but there they are losing its playerbase from 242k at launch, 120k after a week, and now less than 50k 1month and a half later.
    FPS market is unpredictable.
but do you know what's not predictable ? nostalgia and brands.
Palworld is basicly a Pokemon+Monster Hunter+Ark (or whatever u think extra in it), and now it has 1 million players login together, and it's still raising. remember TemTem ? arena Pokemon clone ? it was exploded in first month, yes it's now gone quite, but surely it made money, tons of money, and u know what's not making money ? most FPS games on the market, some gonna be releasing soon, and soon enough will be forgotten repeat repeat, while CSGO(CS2) still going strong 5-10 years later.

No its not dying. Stop comparing different times. Its not 2012 anymore. Back then we were not online all that much, the only time we got a new game was when we went to a store found one that looks cool and buy it. There was not a lot of good options we had Battlefield and COD. Now we have Overwatch, Fortnite, Apex, Finals and a fk ton more. People are fluctuating between games. The finals launches, every apex player plays it to try it out, they go back to apex after a week. Its normal, games are not dying because they dont have every single player in their game. You cant say its dead after 1 month. Wait 2 years then we can talk

meh, im now considered old I guess, from what I can tell kids just keep having more adhd type tendencies and less and less attention span, that reflects in the content they consume and the games (and how they play them), there is a saying 'less is more', this new generation grew up with nothing but 'more' and thats all they know, coming from someone who was excited to play on dos then eventually seeing what n64 did with fps, then halo on xbox, counter strike, going all the way to now, this generation has it so good they are overwhelmed with options and become paralyzed, same thing we see when you spend longer looking for a movie to watch on netflix than actually watching it or continuously dating and dumping people to only seek the next best thing and not wanting to settle

Hey, so I think the concept of the video is worth exploring but I don't think lack of progression is the main reason games are dying. The problem with this video is that you hop from subject to subject (kind of like how you speculate that people do with games) without presenting any real evidence beyond your own personal experience. Also, the section on The Finals comes across as more of a review of the game than a case for why FPS multiplayer is dying. I'm not sure why you spent so long talking about it in the grand scheme of the video. Charts that show a decline in playerbase is a good start, but it doesn't really get to the heart of the matter. If you are going to talk about The Finals extensively, maybe make a separate video or contextualize it more by talking about why people are criticizing the game and why they stop playing, because in the current state of the video it doesn't make sense.
I think you glossed over microtransactions too quickly. Also games releasing in a poor state and lack of optimization. If games are going to appeal to a large playerbase and keep them, then developers need to release a good game from the get go. They need to stop prioritizing games that look good on the surface level over games that play well.

  • @momsspaghetti4064

It's not just FPS games either. Pretty much all shooters are dying. They are all rigged with very toxic bs which is why. Like in Fortnite or CoD when you clearly see your shots go straight through enemies with zero damage or getting shot through objects meant for cover while seeing the holes in the objects literally because you are too good at the game. Factually how it is too. Halo is dead. Fortnite is dying right now at this moment. Apex is dying for obvious reasons. Halo Infinite is dead for 343 trying toxic business. Battlefield games are dead af. Only online games to live are mmorpg, some racing games, fighting games like Tekken which that scene is exploding with greatness btw. I highly suggest Tekken 8 like alot. Fighting games take skill and in order to even enjoy a game like Tekken. You need skill which is awesome because bad gamers simply don't play them. It's a win win. 👍
I forgot The Finals was a thing and now I am installing it. 🫡

Third person shooters look better and is more fun just from that perspective as we can see the characters. That should be the next focus for big devs. As long as they can polish the mechanics, it'll do good.
