When we say may Nigeria never happen to you. This is what we mean!
There are a lot of bad roads in Nigeria federal government refused to maintain the roads but bent on inflicting pains to the struggling citizens for their own pockets. The coastal road project has no benefits to the citizens. The roads leading to the communities are more important to the citizens than the coastal roads. Maintaining the existing roads is preferred than the coastal road contracts which they want to use to enrich them selves.
Lagos-Calabar Road why not start from those other forest areas before this area. Na wa for nija and its agbero government ooo.
Environmental degradation isn’t better, and how is that even beneficial location wise?
This is Not Agbero Government… Landmark does not benefits… Most Nigerians it is Own by foreign investors… But Lagos- Calabar road will help the Economy of the whole Nigeria… with the Train 🚊 infrastructure within it… I am tired of sentiment… Nigeria Most developed.

Just when you think things can't get worse, Nigeria surprises you by demolishing beach-front businesses to build a road that would take years to complete.
Pls if the road is completed dont use it while traveling....if you dont believe in short/longterm plan then thats for you.

That's because in 1980, $1 = 1/2 naira. Today, $1 = 1,400 naira. This means that Nigeria is not a money maker; it is a persistent borrower and spender and eventually, the lenders would own the country.
In 1980, Lagos's population was less than 3 million. Today, it is around 22 million and growing - out of control.
In 1980, New York City's population was about 7 million. Today, it is less than 9 million.
You don't even know the motive behind this project. It could be that some shadow individuals stand to make a lot of money from the project.

Under the Constitution (and the Land Use Act incorporated therein), land is NOT owned by the federal or state governments but rather are merely “vested” in the federal or state governments “in trust” for the benefit and USE of the Nigerian people.
In a nation with probably over 50% unemployment, let’s destroy scores of small businesses providing thousands of direct and indirect jobs and supporting thousands more livelihoods, when there was an EASY WIN-WIN of reverting to the original alignment.
Anyway, Nigeria didn’t become the WORLD CAPITAL OF EXTREME POVERTY by making smart choices.
This Project is estimated to last upto 5 years... What happens if the Landmark becomes the last phase of the Job to be rounded up?. This would afford the Company the opportunity to adequately adjust its Operations and still accomodate the workers...
I understand that the 100 billion Naira compensation is nothing out of 15 Trillion being the project cost...
And Las Las it boils down to the game of politics...
If you were the investors pouring your hard-earned trillions into the project, your view would have been the exact opposite. Why would you commence an infrastructure project where no one could start using it immediately so that you can begin to recover your funds soonest. Did you guys listen to the minister on how this project is going to be funded? I guess not.
My advice is don't get involved in politics, direct or indirect. It will hurt your business. Sad to see this happening though.

@@BABAWISDOMTV Expropriation legislation (the term used in Canada) is eminent domain. Eminent domain is where the government can seize property if it determines that the land is needful for expanding a roadway or whatever else it needs at any given time.

This is laughable destroying a company that create thousands of emplyment to creat just a road that can be sited on any direction even inside the waters close to landmark
Why has the beach been privatized?
The real reason is that some investers are building condo's and holliday hotels at the beach. They are building for white tourist not for to much black people on the beach. This is happening everywhere where blacks live and work, but Arabs, Europeans or Americans come to invest in real estate.

They obviously don't. If you want a clear path to contruct a road how much property should you demolish? Only structures obstructing the said road. But certain people are determined to demolish every structure encompassing the proposed road.
Who wants to use a beach that is directly adjacent to a highway? That is not:
1. Safe due to traffic and pollution
2. Not feasible to access the “left over” infrastructure even if you did build through it.
Plus it’s a very wide road to begin with, and at the same time Landmark was setup, Eko Atlantic also had rights to sand fill and build on the water around it. So I feel it’s just poor decision making. The demolition is going to happen over the course of a few days so people are just saying whatever they like, it’s all happening for the greater good anyways.

This is very unfortunate, there could have been a better way to achieve this coastal road.
There is no better way. The original route has space for four lanes only with skyscrapers along the route. The project has been expanded to ten lanes. The government will not demolish skyscrapers for road construction.

Would you invest $100 million on a beach front property, any where in the world today, if you know that 10 to 20 years from now, part of the property would be demolished, the beach front sand filled and a highway built instead? Winners and losers. The beat goes on.

The land documents showed that Landmark did not buy the water front. The water front was not theirs in the first place. Even if it was, National Interest supercedes personal interest.
Besides, 99% of properties and businesses affected belonged to the Yoruba people. The Yoruba people are not wailing. So why should everything be about Landmark. What about Oniru Beach and other people whose homes and businesses are affected.
In America, they will go through all the legal processes before demolition. They will also pay fair compensations, and provide unemployment and other benefits/services to the private landowners, businesses and employees that are negatively impacted.

Nigeria relies on oil production for about two-thirds of government earnings and 90% of its foreign exchange income. A big portion of the money to build the airports, hotels, roads come from the oil producing states, of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Imo, Lagos, Ondo, and Rivers. Every state in Nigeria has comparative advantage in one area or another, and has something to offer for the good and growth of the nation.

Nigeria is NOT demolishing beach-front businesses. It is building its infrastructure. Buying a beach property does not confer rights over the coastline on anyone. The FGN owns 250m to the edges of the sea. So, any property within that range could not have been approved unless those claiming such rights can produce documents to the contrary. As can be seen from the video, the govt has tried as much as possible to avoid the real buildings by not claiming all its rightful 250m. Nigeria doesn't owe anyone apologies for creating an infrastructure that will benefit its populace. It is also good to note that the govt has resolved to compensate owners for any approved buildings on the ROW of the infrastructure project.
I guess FGN doesnt understand that beach front should be preserve at almost all cost.
The major problem with our building infrastructure is that we just build anywhere we like. That is so annoying. I don't like emotion or sentiment. Landmark knows that it is on the wrong of the right of way of the federal government coastal road plan. All I hope is that the government should compensate them properly so that they can move the beach front upward where the beach is even cleaner.

@@esepierro1561the water infront of landmark was always going to be sand filled, eko atlantic had the right to do so since 2008. This was also around the same time Landmark came to be. You should also do your due diligence and just not jump in the sympathy train, they should have known before investing so much in the first place. Plus the government has every right to build wherever and whenever for the betterment of the overall city plan. Always complaining even when solutions are being made

I just watched from another TV channel about the demolition...and when they asked the presenter he said the Good beach was not affected, they are still carrying out their businesses...Oniru beach wasn't affected...only a fraction was affected and it didn't affect their business..and yet you are here showing how dark your heart is...no single poty for those who are losing their jobs and lively hood. If you're exposed by travelling and reading wide, you will understand the economical value of the coastal road to Nigeria and Nigerians when compared to the landmark investment in which 90% is owned by foreigners and not Nigerians. Simple scale of preference dictate that the road is more valuable to Nigerians than the resorts. Enough of the tribal sentiments and biases.
15 plus trillion Naira coastal highway whose cost will add to the debt burden of Nigerians is more important than fixing electricity, insecurity, food security, fixing the death traps all over the country called federal roads that are taking the lives of Nigerians everyday? A PDP member told me that if the project is completed, her party is finished because the South South people will decamp in mass to APC. She said her party mission is to stop the project using media houses against the project.
