Im really wishing that more things make the change from forgeworld resin to plastic. They started off strong with the Krieg. Im hopeful for some of the custodes make the leap too.
For your BT, here are some tips : Take the Marshall for free strat, give him the t bones upgrade, attach him to a unit of 10 sword brethren. Take the vow that gives 6+ fnp. That will be 420 pts ish. Give them a land raider as transport. Use armour of contempt and smoke screen strats to protect it. Don't forget you have cover if any part of one model isn't visible to the enemy. Flame thrower marines in drop pods sound good for other points. Finally have a unit of 5 intercessors to hold objective at the back and hide, as they have sticky objectives, if you start you will continue to control the objective even if they get killed
Alternatively, put 10 Sword bretheren with a Captain and a Lieutenant into said Land Raider. Give the Captain the Enhancement for 5+ Critical Hits and pick the Sustained Hits 1 Vow. Squad now has Lethal and Sustained hits on 5+; Captain, Lieutenant and Sword bretheren sergeant combined have 17 attacks at S5 AP2 D3 (they benefit from Sword Bretheren's +1 damage). The whole squad does enough damage to kill THREE! Questoris knights in one activation if going into an Oathed target. Hilarious overkill in other words
@@Fortyyetz yes, per model, so long as the land raider has one part hidden from view it gets cover. If everything is visible then smokescreen grants - 1to hit and light cover
You really should try playing at 2k points. You can fit more things in and is a lot more balanced. Sounds like you’re playing against a skew list at 1k points and that can be a lot harder. Make sure you’re good at selecting your oath of moment target.
For your BT, your missing a lot of anti-tank. Banged together a quick list of things I know you have: 1 Marshal (warlord) 1 10 man Primaris Crusader Squad (pyre pistol of Bretheren, 2 powerfists, and the rest chainswords) 2 5 man Crusader Squads (Grav Pistol and Fist on Brother, 2 Chainswords, 1 grav gun, 1 Laser Cannon) Land Raider Crusader (all upgrades, stick the Marshal and PCS in it) 2 5 man Scout Sniper units (each with a Missle Launcher: Can't be indirected) 1 3 man Centurion Devastator Squad (Grav Cannons and Missle Launchers) Keep the Centurions on reserve, and charge the Land Raider up the board. Snipe with the Crusader Squads, but they are mainly to draw fire. Use the Scouts to score primary and secondary, and if they can get a shot, kill as much as possible, they are suprisingly deadly. Bring Centurions in at a good angle and they will just pick up your opponents tanks. One optional twist would be to loose the Centurions, 1 Sniper Squad, 1 Crusader squad and replace it with a Drop Pod and 2 5 man Devastator squads with Grav Cannons, and an Attack Bike. With Space Marines, Grav Cannons go BRRR, enemy armor dissapear.
The lancer is probably the most unique, it’s the knightiest knight! I want one to make a dread/free blade. Is he Chaos is he loyal? Who knows but he’s here to spear! Definitely preordering.
The big torrent weapons (like the flamer on the knight) come into their own when you're overwatching in the enemy's movement phase as well. It works well of you have a way to get an extra CP a turn. (Solar Leonitus etc)
My advice would be to play a bigger game. With 1k points, indirect is king, and you can't out artillery the guard with marines. Maybe get that drop pod you were painting and have some eradicators land by his artillery pieces and take them out? Also, speaking of Lancers, you might want to bring a Gladiator; armour is heavy in this meta, so you'll want something that can spit out some anti-tank firepower.
These are some very cool kits, wish they weren't so expensive, even 1/100 Gundam kits aren't normally that expensive, but I guess you get some rather nice options in the box. I'm impressed.
Coming from not just another hobby into Warhammer, but specifically another hobby based around building model robots... It's INSANE what GW has managed to condition people into willingly paying for a kit. For the cost of that new knight that doesn't even include all options for that frame I could get a larger kit in the other hobby with a display base and programmable LEDs. Hell, I could probably even get most of my paint for the model too
And by the same token in other modelling hobbies that wouldn't even get you started, especially something like model railways. Its always really a case of what the markets will tolerate though, which is just basic capitalism really. If people keep buying it at higher prices they will keep pushing things until they can't and they then either go bust or slash costs and prices, and slashing costs usually starts with the staff and the quality of the product or both.
@@bionicgeekgrrl Model railways are a pretty poor comparison. They having moving parts, electrical components, metal parts, sometimes even internal lighting and sound effects. Warhammer minis are cheap injection molded plastic you have to assemble, touch up, and hope you do a good job painting all while trying to actually build a balanced list for playing a game. You can setup a railway with a couple trains and be done. Lionel is never gonna release a balance pass that nerfs your Union Pacific Big Boy and make you rethink your whole operation. A better hobby to compare it to, which is the one I was using originally, is Gunpla. Its also injected molded plastic you have to assemble and can paint if you like, but theyre also much larger and much cheaper. You look at the cost of some of the nicer Real Grade and Master Grade gunpla, the type of stuff that could be the centerpiece of a collection, and alot of them are pretty much the same cost as a single heavy int box. Trust me theres alot more I could go into beside just raw price. Even stuff like GW's push fit models being of mixed quality is shocking to me and really makes me wonder if theyre just not bothering to improve like that because people would start to wonder why you could have things like dreadnaught weapons be push fit or c-clip mounted for easy swap outs without having to magnetize things. Lots of little things like that where I see them and go "theres no reason they HAVE to do this... But they can sell extra kits this way" that just feel scummy. And to be clear everything Im saying here isnt meant to be against Warhammer as a hobby or saying warhammer players are foolish for going along with this stuff. Im about to finish my first 2000 point army and got the levithan box when it dropped. Its more meant to be critical of GW taking advantage of its audience

Granted it's really hard to be one with minis the size of my pinky, but they can still learn something from Bandai. If they move forward with enhancing their push fit models they could make the vehicles more modular, which would remove the need for magnets. The Entry grades have proven simple joint systems can work. Also, bandai has proven glue is just an option, not a mandate. The potential is there to improve, but I don't know if Gw will ever do it since they're so old (30+) and so set in their ways. Only time will tell.
Run a chaplain that buffs melee with your thunder hammer units! you'll be back to wounding with hammers on 4's again. Also of note is that chainfists do some work into vehicles!
Not sure how he is wiping 2 of your vehicles with enough left over to kill a squad of marines, but remember to Concentrate firepower. Use your Oath of Moment ability to kill at least 2 of his Infantry/Sentinel units a turn as he can only bring one back, or don't shoot at them at all. Instead, focus fire a Tank.
At 1000 pts it's hard to have enough anti tank unless you tailor make your list to hard counter his tank spam. All you can do when facing that list is play to the mission; out score him if you can.
Melee simply doesnt kill tanks well this edition,and deep striking while cool, is a very unteliable charge. I would recommend making sure theres plenty of ruin terrain to block sightlines and playing 2k so you have more units to lose. Try arding some dreadnoughts, tanks, and or transports to help with anti tank and to carry your units to the fight, as vehicles usually are immune to effects like earthshaker slow. Use your oath of moment rerolls to focus down exposed guard tanks.
It is really sad how much less balanced 1k points are compared to 2k or even Combat Patrol. For my gaming group, most won't play without fully painted models so we end up just painting instead of playing
Hey man don't worry if you get tabled as long as it was fun, as Mordian Glory puts it "Reject the Meta, Embrace the Guard!" which is funny because you got tabled by guard, but I guess for you it would be "Reject the Meta, Embrace the Black Templars!" but if you do want a tip for beating him take out his Scout Sentinels so he can't reroll his ones or ignore the indirect fire penalty for his Basilisk.
your problem is clearly the Basilisk. Instead of using your drop pod to deliver 5 flamer guys to kill some guardsmen, you need to deliver anty tank weapons to the tanks! Next time bring 5 terminators, teleporting, acompanied by 5 sternguard with combi melters in the drop pod.
Combi melta isn’t a profile anymore. Sternguard won’t help much against the tanks unless you can get some seriously lucky oath of moment all 6s to wound
One thing that has really turned around my black Templar list was the addition of two repulsor executioner. Toss a squad of sword brethren in each one and top one of them off with the emperors champion. On top of that I have two dreadnaughts and 80 crusaders. Tends to make for a lot of very threatening board presence and opponents have had trouble deciding what to kill first. That’s just me though. Kind of sounds like Sean is one of those people who just rolls the nutz almost all the time.
I reckon if ya get a water-spray and spray Sean every time he wins (like a naughty cat) it might program his brain on a subconscious level and make him more likely to want to lose.
On that flamethrower... One thing to factor in is that Overwatch ends up giving you additional rounds of full strength shooting. Flamers with 2 damage also really do work in this edition.
If you want a tip on dealing with your buddies leman russ just remember that there is nothing in the rules against picking it up and throwing it out a window.
Which made no sense, because the nerfs were meant to stop abuse of the towering keyword for shooting things off the table easily... And the Lancer doesn't really shoot at all. It has a little zappy short range attack and the rest is all melee. Why did it need needing? The Gallant didn't go up in cost specifically because it's a melee Knight.
The pre-order price for the kit has been released, and sadly in my country (Australia) it costs about $335. While it's certainty less expensive and resilient than the Forgeworld version, it is still pricey as hell than i hoped for such as being $250 or somewhere around that pricetag but i guess that's HH model in the nutshell
Guard armies have a really hard time dealing with Precision weapons that snipe their officers and take away their buffs. Maybe take some sniper scouts or eliminators?
Play your Necrons . Doom walker and flyer is mental. Plus resurrection orb on a noble is amazing for getting your toons back . There range and toughness will carry anyone to winning

the castigator is most definitely better than both of the other two, as well as better than most regular knight options. You're sleeping on the gun and its bondsman. with bondsman, it becomes 18 attacks, sustained 1, ap -3 d2, with twin linked rerolling the wound rolls. Also hands out sustained 1 and -1 ap to an armiger. 3 extra wounds and +2 move to a regular knight too

I know that you try to avoid constroversy, but the pricing of the cerastus knight might be a bridge to far. When you make the Lancer knight video you could compare it to a gunpla mg of a similar size.

Drop pod in some anti tank if the tanks are blowing you up!!! Get those grav/las/melta in there! Also gladiator lancers are the go to in the name of space marine vehicles, the black Templar one can also take a multi melta. Best of luck in future games Vs Sean we are all rooting for you
inceptors in 3s with plasma you can deep strike 3 inches out and draw attention (gravid bodies are tough and 115 points isnt a huge amount) giving your hammers time to rush the parking lot
I still use a shoulder bag with the Imperialis on it they launched two merch pushes ago and I love it. Honestly it kind of feels like a missed opportunity not to do more merch with the brand awareness gw have. Regiment specific Astra Millitarum pt gear for the gym. Replica Tanith warknifes. Blessed by the Omnisire bumper stickers. Custom Purity Seals! The possibilities are endless (this would mean undercutting a lot of people on Etsy though.)
Ima be honest. I really am looking to get my hands on the castigator. Been working hard on my chaos knight army and think that his ability will do really well with the war dogs.
Literally came across the stamps on display in my local PO the other week and thought of you 😆 Thinking how silly it would be to send a letter to someone with them (though that'd be literal heresey) unfortunately my partner was with me so whilst she amazingly was the one to point them out, I also had to refrain from the purchase. I really want a lancer but I just think that shield looks really off to me. I know it's supposed to be an energy shield but it just looks empty. Possibly there is a 3D print energy but to fill it in

Is Shawn hard countering the types of lists you typically bring? In small groups, the game doesn't work well unless you use the honor system and each bring a "general purpose" list, even knowing what your opponent prefers
2 Lancers, 6 warglaives, & 1 moirax = 2000p Lancers can bondsman warglaives and charge across the board turn 1. it's crazy with the 2 of them both doing that. very mean.

the castigator is most definitely better than both of the other two, as well as better than most regular knight options. You're sleeping on the gun and its bondsman.
with bondsman, it becomes 18 attacks, sustained 1, ap -3 d2, with twin linked rerolling the wound rolls. Also hands out sustained 1 and -1 ap to an armiger.
3 extra wounds and +2 move to a regular knight too

Drop pod in some anti tank if the tanks are blowing you up!!! Get those grav/las/melta in there! Also gladiator lancers are the go to in the name of space marine vehicles, the black Templar one can also take a multi melta. Best of luck in future games Vs Sean we are all rooting for you

inceptors in 3s with plasma you can deep strike 3 inches out and draw attention (gravid bodies are tough and 115 points isnt a huge amount) giving your hammers time to rush the parking lot

I really want a lancer but I just think that shield looks really off to me. I know it's supposed to be an energy shield but it just looks empty. Possibly there is a 3D print energy but to fill it in

Is Shawn hard countering the types of lists you typically bring? In small groups, the game doesn't work well unless you use the honor system and each bring a "general purpose" list, even knowing what your opponent prefers

Lancers can bondsman warglaives and charge across the board turn 1. it's crazy with the 2 of them both doing that. very mean.
I believe you need to buy Sean a new set of dice. ;)
