Andrew - Wanted to thank you for the sub and also to tell you that I learn so much from your channel. Music-wise and video-creating-wise. My son has been a fan of yours for years and freaked out when I told him you subbed. :) Thanks for making REALLY GOOD CONTENT!
I was recently diagnosed with a cholesteatoma in my ear and have been progressively losing my hearing and your story of hearing loss has given me a different outlook on my career of 11 years as a musician. Thanks Andrew 🙏🏽
I hope you manage to deal with that. Its fucking tough to lose something you took for granted for all your life. Went through something kinda similar but different. It stays with you but sooner or later you will find the energy to accept it and push on.
i really hope it gets better its not the same but for 3 yrs i had alopecia i was only 12 when it first happened and it was a bad but i also realized the value of accepting what i couldnt change and as i came to accept it , it got better.Eventhough what you are going through is alot more serious i really hope you can get through it and persevere.
jesus cabrera. If you understand musical theory then just be the next Beethoven. Even if you become tone deaf, the only limit that puts on you is the one you let it. Maybe you'll have to get a second person's opinion before you make your music public, maybe you won't be able to play properly without slipping out of beat, but you can work around that if you, say, got something which shook against you hand that was set to the same tempo everone else was using. You can do it and let nobody, not even yourself, tell you otherwise. Sorry if that sounded cheesy, but I mean every word.
Heck yeah. I was thinkin dang he put alot of effort in to this video. My creativity would have died after chopping all those samples, that was alot work too lol
A cool challenge might be to loop nothing. Change 1 thing/everything as the song goes, but at the end you have something that doesnt fit with the first thing, but each section fits with the previous section.
My favourite thing about watching you is how you make sure we all kind of understand what you're doing even those of us who don't know anything about music production beyond "it sounds good"
You are honestly my favourite youtuber. You deserve so much more recognition than you have already. I've told every musician I know about you and gotten them to enjoy your videos, but I feel like more musicians should be aware of this channel because of your talent and useful tips
This is something I struggle with SO much and I'm so glad to finally have found the resources to help me. I can't even tell you how many FL studio projects I have saved which is just one tiny part of a song with layers that sound good but they get abandoned because I can't figure out how to turn them into a full song... You are the best!!!
You're my inspiration to keep pursuing my dream of being a musician. I almost gave up singing 3 years ago when my parents told me that I didn't have what it takes, and that it would be a waste of my life to pursue something as stupid as music. Then, in that darkness, I found your videos. They made me see that, even if I don't get rich, even if I don't become a famous musician, even if the only person who hears my music is me, it will all be worth it to create something I'm proud to call mine. Stay awesome Andrew, and keep inspiring!
it's never a waste if it's fun and doesn't harm other people. may your joy for music never vanish! here's to doing what you love! (is that correct english?^^)
Well, look at it this way. In their free time, most people spend a significant portion of their lives consuming art (music, TV, movies, etc). What you do is create art. If I have 4 hours of free time in a given night, I could watch a few episodes of whatever, and get some enjoyment. If I used 3 of those hours to create music and 1 hour to watch one episode of whatever, I would get some enjoyment and feel proud that I did some creation rather than purely consumption.
I've a degree in music composition and it still helps to be told "just tweak a little, take what you have and flip it" when I get stuck in a rut. Thanks a lot for this video, a year after it's out.
Duuude... I just wanted to say thanks to you. Your videos have been inspirational to me ever since I first found you channel a few years ago. Getting stuck with loops is something that always stops me from progressing with songs and I have just watched 3 videos from you, some of them more recent than this one, and I am actually excited to try out some of the things that you suggested on the videos I just watched. Your channel is great, your videos are fun to watch and always dynamic, interesting and rich in content. You are very talented and I also love your music and the sounds and beats you come up with. I've obviously become a bit of a fan, so thanks man. You are awesome.
Splitting up the videos to make more content sounds perfect, honestly. That way I can share the goofy-yet-amazing end-product and my friends who might get interested in the production can watch it afterwards, we get to spend more time with the process, and you can have more audience interaction with the track since you'll have more time. It only sounds positive to me.
Great advice, I 100% condone having differing parts in songs and not just having loops! So many good loops go nowhere and turn me off to what could've been an absolute banger.
For the longest time I thought my production method was whack af, but after seeing ur intro I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one that dicks around when making music. Ur a great fucking help when it comes to producing and I’m honestly great full 4 u
The kinda sad, kinda hilarious part about that is that rich sickos would surely buy a lambo nuke just because it has that damn bull shield on it. Plus it would probably be a self driving, aerodynamic, candy-apple-red drone that would deliver your food piping hot at 0-60 in 6 seconds. The epitome of lazy luxury. (wtf my brain? what is wrong with you??)
4:40 when i have a very loop based track, i sometimes add a copy layer of whatever the chord instruments are, and add extra reverb of phaser something to make it a little more ethereal. I also have experimented with weaving drum tops in and out of a song and thats alot of fun
Sometimes I just change the way the chord is being played. For example, say I've simply got a chord playing on beat 1 each measure, maybe I could play it as an arpeggio, or start with the lowest note and fill out the chord the rest of the notes, etc. It's nice and simple while still being a recognizable difference.
As a producer myself, (more along the lines of ambient music though) I love these step by step videos. I'm totally cool with waiting for part 2. Love it!
This was REALLY helpful, Andrew - thank you. A lot of the tutorials I've seen kinda start WAY after the demo has been produced, it's nice to see the very starts (like the raw fake vocal thing).
I don't mean to start a fight, but (oh boy) I have not learned how to make a track instead of a loop... Sure I now know how to make a cool snare buildup and I can replace parts of a melody with a more bland sound, but what if I dont want to do either of these because they dont go well with the project I'm struggling with?
Then, Kilian... you should watch the upcoming continuations of this Episode. Our Fearless Leader made mention of just exactly what you're describing & concluded, that in order to mitigate this inevitability... there would be multiple installments :]
Your videos are superb man; fun and insightful. You've got a joy for the production process that reminds me why it's supposed to be fun in the first place! Now if I can just steal some of that joy haha
your legitametly my only reason to have internet. we hqd a task in school where we had to talk about our hero or whatever and i did you. i got a standing ovation. thank you
This is so sick. Definitely was not expecting the drop to be like that after hearing the original samples. lol. Great work and Im looking forward to more of this track!
Thank you for leaving this whole paper trail of tutorials - these have helped me immensely go from twiddling my thumbs in confusion/frustration to now having some kind of "protocol" for breaking through when stuck!
I commented before even watching the video. And I stand by it. How do you take all these random sounds effects and make them sound so sick??? OH just watch your videos to learn, that's how. I appreciate all the CONTENT.
Another really useful device for B sections is changing the harmonic rhythm, especially if you have a flexible melody that works in different contexts. Just shortening or expanding the underlying harmony, it can be really fun and surprising to hear how a melody changes without really changing at all!
But seriously though, I have been stuck on a track that changes through multiple different sections for a long time. A video on how to arrange a track with more than a couple sections would be awesome!
Dude! You are so talented!! I mean, I know this for years now but every time I watch a new video I'm thinking "Damn, he's so talented"... haha every single time

One subtle, vastly underused technique is side-chaining bass to drums. It gives the track a little pumping/swing while allowing the kick transients to really punch through. Also lets the 2 bus compressor to work less on huge peaks, allowing it to do what it should do--fill in the track and make it sound finished. As always Andrew, accurate insight, entertaining production and a positive vibe. Subbed.
yeah personal marketing lol...i cant believe i missed how awesome you are. top notch producing skills. and generous with teaching time. love you and what you do bro. your music is badass.
Something I thought coming back to this: sometimes it's also okay to make more repetitive loopier songs. Some of my favourite hip hop beats have the same loop running through the thing while adding some elements later and dropping some out. Then there are of course more minimal styles of techno. If you're going to loop for a long time though, make sure your loop is absolutely amazing so people don't get bored of it.
I went threw about 40 of your videos to find this one to prove to my wife that you microwaved a snack with action shots in high quality video equipment
I can't tell you how excited I am that my clip got included haha. I can't wait for the in depth video for what you actually did with the clips, I barely recognise the audio within the context of the song, a fair bit of pitch shifting I'm guessing. Yay!
You should make a track out of car sounds. It could be the purr of a gorgeous super-car or something fun like buying an old piece of scrap and going at it with a sledgehammer. Either way, you would get some really awesome samples and have a great time.
I cant really pinpoint it but your videos are getting better and better in terms of enjoyability and humor. The demo vocal actually sounds like you’re singing in Korean. Even though it’s total gibberish. It works. Also, love the zelda/Majora's Mask samples at 7:52, really first the "J&K" vibe you were taling about at the beginning of the video.
You are interesting, FUNNY, and talented. I watch your videos to learn about equipment and techniques and to laugh. I'm never disappointed. Thanks and keep it up!
How to make aa track ( and not a loop):
Make a loop
build up drums
Make drop
Don't finish, plan to return to it
Never return to it
Perfect atl title
Literally, this
Hahaha I wonder how the tracks of all the people calling this helpful turned out..
THat's not a track, it's the same stupid loop repeated more times with different effects on it.
