I'm not a musician but I am an artist (drawing, painting, digital) and your list idea is actually very similar to how I finish works. Near the end of the painting I'll usually (in the case of digital) make a layer and just circle in red every little thing I can find that needs fixing. Makes it way easier to gauge what's left to do and to work through it one spot at a time.

Wonderful as always. Two things I thought of which would complete the list for me: 1. Referencing and 2. Don't be afraid to quickly move through the steps, back and forth, back and forth. It can be for different parts, as you hear something, or where your interest takes you. You needn't work solely on the macro until it's perfect before diving into the micro. It is difficult to get the pacing of this right and to see it all through by the end, but it's a pattern of working I've seen in all artistic expression. My two cents ;) Thanks Andrew!

You're such an inspiring musician, friend. You make the whole process feel much more relatable for those that are a little stuck; unlike some producers that make videos, that are, quite honesly, more interested in showing off how good they are to their fans, rather than actually be helpful, productive or inspiring.
You've made one hell of a difference in my production and work flow over the years, just by explaining things in a personable way, backed with a good portion of knowledge.

There’s this old, well known song called “stand by me”, the rendition everyone has heard is by Ben E. King. It’s a very well known song, everyone has heard it. It’s the same 4 chords the whole song over and over again. The melody changes in the chorus, the song raises its emotional level in the chorus and then reels it back in the verse, but when you play the song, you realize that it’s the same thing the whole way through.
Songs don’t need to be complex, and often times complexity creates polarizing reactions for whatever reasons. It seems like the best songs are always simple like row, row, row your boat.
🤷‍♂️ I didn’t create this world I just live here.

I find the finishing touches of the song to be my favorite part. I just struggle to get there because I struggle to structure my songs in the first place. Coming up with melodies that work together to create a cohesive mood is typically where I struggle. I can do the loop but I find that the loop usually doesn't translate into a song very easily. I'll definitely try to create structure way earlier in the process so it doesn't become an issue down the road.

Every song I make i start with a loop and build like 5 or 6 tracks over the loop and then I practice muting sections and build a different vibe with the loop and then I try piecing it around with the others by unmuting and muting others. Just reducing your work to make room for creativity is a great practice. Sometimes too much can crowd it up and doesn’t leave room for your brain to wander.
