I dated a woman who read the V.I. Warshawski novels. I offered to take her to see this movie, but she declined.
She told me that she had a picture in her head of what the main character looked like and it wasn't Kathleen Turner.
I think we saw "What About Bob?" instead. (Hard to believe that was over 30 years ago!)
The title might have affected the box office.
The same was said about "The Shawshank Redemption", which was really the best picture of 1994 despite "Forrest Gump" winning the Oscar that year.
Too bad it flopped at the box office.
I didn't know it was supposed to be a series of movies.

The girl's jacket (the still at 1:44 for example) reminds me of the one worn by the Seventh Doctor's companion Ace (during the final years of Classic Doctor Who)
