I had a similar failure on my Kia Sorento a few years ago. And it cost quite a bit to get it repaired. I thought watching this would make me feel stupid for having paid for it to be fixed instead of doing it myself, but honestly this is a lot more involved than I had imagined.
I think back-up cameras became mandated safety equipment in 2012. And yeah, they're all just small analog CCTV cameras. Some 2019 and newer models might have HD cameras but you can find aftermarket replacements for those too.
What happened to yours is the rubber gasket failed and it corroded because it was full of moisture. You might want to pump it full of silicone or even just hot glue to keep that from happening again.

I don't quite understand why you clipped the white cable, surely it only gets a power feed when it goes in reverse (as the screen comes on)?
Have to keep that in mind if it happens with her 2020 model.
Word to the wise: be careful about buying 2020 models if they have a CVT. Ours needed a replacement transmission at under 13k miles and it took almost a month with most of that being the shop waiting for parts delivery.
My brother bought a 2016, brand new (at the time). About a year later, the engine blew. It was declared a total loss (not sure why) & replaced w/ a 2017. Last year, that needed a new transmission.
Could probably grab one from a junk yard just as cheap, plus its going to be properly calibrated for that car model (unlike the chineseium one u bought).
any at the junk yard will not work either most likely. water gets in the housing and ruins it.
Backup cams aren't simply standard equipment in the US, they are now required.
Now how to mod to play vcr on the center console

Hi, I had a question about the camera, I installed everything and now for some reason it seems to be inverted. I cut only the white wire and the lines showed up but now it looks like it's inverted. I have a 2010 Kia Soul 4U sx model where the image shows up on the rearview mirror. Please let me know if you have a fix by any chance?
If the image is upside down, you will need to rotate the position of the camera. If the image is mirrored from what you want it to be you’ll need to cut the other wire.
@@databits ok so just cut the green wire too right? Cause my OEM camera was pretty badly busted and I glued this camera to the housing so it sits. (So can't move the camera around) Also just to clarify it's not upside down it's laterally inverted. Sry didn't make it clear earlier

HELP! I hope you are still on line as I see your post is a year old. Great video...ordered the part from your link and recieved my camera in very short order. But...Huston we have a problem. See the pictures I have enclosed. The KIA plug is the same as in your video...Power is red and black...the video is yellow and white. The camera wires are... power, pink and black ...the video, green and black. Darn I am having problem attaching pictures to this reply?
Just did mine today. Pink goes to red. Green goes to yellow. Black to black on both.
