    If you're planning to use the NZXT Kraken, I *REALLY* recommend you to buy also some VRM heatsinks. The Kraken only cools the GPU and totally forgets the VRM chips. You have been warned.

    • @robywankenobi32
      @robywankenobi32 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @Ben Melowsky Motherboard has nothing to do with the GPU, tldr the RAM modules (VRAM) and any voltage regulators/inductors that the stock heatspreader of the stock heatsink touches have to have equivlent thermal mass/cooling or better when switching to this "hybrid" water cooling.

      +Joseph Redaud my EVGA 980Ti with a Morpheus does 1500 below 1.2v...the Classifieds for example reach their maximum clocks at 1.16v. Maxwell does not linearly scale with voltage, past 1.2v you can often get negative scaling due to the chip's internal heat.

    • @TheHavocInferno

      +Martín Varela yes. Often. Which would also tell you that scaling in general is poor above 1.2v for Maxwell. Really the only cases where more than 1.2v will slightly improve OC is with heavy custom watercooling, which the fewest users have.

    See that row of 6+2 components at min 1:28 right next to his thumb? those are voltage regulators that convert the 12v supplied to the card to 1.1, 1.8, 3.3V and so on depending on what each particular GPU uses for voltage. These components get very hot as well during operation, it's not just the processor itself. If the heatsink is removed then these regulators have no way to cool down and of course that means they wear off much faster. So I would not spend any money on this system.

    Make no mistake, do not apply Thermal Paste like you normally would to CPUs, like the pea drop method. That is not adequate for GPUs at all!
    The Entire surface of the GPU DIE needs to be covered with Thermal paste, cause the *entire* surface is the Core/Heat point! Treat it like a Delided CPU Die.
    Cause with CPUs, mostly just the middle section of the heatspreader needs to be covered/cooled. But if you have parts on the GPU DIE not covered, you can get a burned up card.
    Always use Non-Conductive Thermal Paste or Liquid Metal. -This does not contradict itself, because Liquid Metal stays in place where you apply it. While "normal" thermal paste will spread out. And when it spreads out, you better not have a conductive one ready to short the nearest neighboring component!
    The rule of thumb for GPUs, better save (more) than sorry!

    Thanks for the video but this was a bad design. The G10 did not really help cool the vrm and it also made the back of the gpu hotter by covering it with a sponge instead of a thermal pad. The best way to water cool is with a open loop and rad/res not a cheap aio with a weak pump.

    I was able to install this on my XFX 390X 8256. and it's awesome I over clock my GPU to 1160 and 1600 for memory boost and I used H55 corsair cooler. with a push and pull and on full stress test it gets 56c and when playing games I get on average 45c. and the 390x already has heat sinks pre installed.

      @willysillyplays 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      did you just mount fan for the vrams? iam going to buy h55 for evga 780 ti, do you bought any other stuff extra like screws etc? or just the cooler and fan?

    • @turbomazda3
      @turbomazda3 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i used the fan that is given to you when you buy this kit. the fan is for the vram that mounts on the bracket but make sure your vram have heat sinks on them. mine had heat sinks pre done by factory but some video card don't have heat sinks on them and you have to buy them and mount it separate. i did not buy any thing extra. i had on hand extra Arctic Silver 5 so i didn't need anything extra but. i recommend you buy some to put a little extra on. because i had to take my h55 off and on a couple of times. so i mess up the pre applied thermal paste that come on the h55. no for the extra screws. well the h55 comes with 1 fan for the radiator and if you like to do a push and pull configuration on, then you will need to buy some extra screws. i got mine extra screws on amazon for $3 for 8 long screws. you don't need the extra screws unless you want to do a push pull configuration.

      FiNaTiC GaMeR push pull is where you have a fan on each side of the radiator, one to push air through and the other to pull air through. it's mostly unnecessary because of static pressure fans optimised to push or pull air through the large resistance of the radiator

The original heatsink fans drain the memory chips heat to the cooler. aren't reduced heat isn't belong to those chips? i know water can hold many heat.

    Though, adding liquid cooling cost like $140. That's a lot of money! Having high temperatures does not really hurt you components or decrease life span unless your like 100c+. About 80c should not do much harm. Try to add more powerful fans to your system.
    That $140 can go towards a sli configuration. I have a gtx 980 right now. It peaks 80c at 100% load in summer (when room temp is like 90f). Right now I get for $300. I'm sure in two years time you can get like $180 or less.

    Sure the GPU core will get cool, but anyone who tries to overclock more with this liquid cooling method will find their VRAM and power delivery heating up pretty fast..... No VRM and VRAM cooling?!? (That one fan barely touches half of the VRAM and non-reference boards may have different VRM placement as well.)

      I was thinking the same thing when he said it would last longer than a OC on reference. lol. Break warranty and comprise my $650 gpu awesome idea!

  • @MatLon28

    If you plug the pump and fan to the motherboard, wouldn't it run 100% all the time? Also, you cant control the fan speed on Msi afterburner right?

    I see you're the point here, but having the fan kind of defeats the purpose a little in having a water cooler. Is there a way to cool the entire card with an enclosed cooler?

    Maybe a stupid question. But how do you connect the cooler to the chasis? Does it need to have holes already or. Reason i am asking is, i can get a liquid cooled vega 64 for a decent price.

      why does every pc video have the same guy commenting 'omg you put way too much thermal paste' listen, its been proven that alot of thermal paste doesnt matter on gpus as they do not have heatspreaders, plus if the thermal paste is non conductive go ahead, put alot. But if you put too little, your gpu will die. so stop commenting ignorant shit please and thanks

    You telling me that your cpu is going to "eat" all the hot flow air from the gpu heatsink, since the gpu more likely to over heat easily, or opposite way the gpu wil take the heat. BTW is there any solution to help this setup work better, a new pc case with new fan setup or something else??
