A liitle over 13 months later the Rams would return to the same venue and lose the Super Bowl to the New England led by a QB named Tom Brady. That would be one of the biggest upsets in Sports History. Could someone remind me what happened to both Franchises after that game along with the winning QB and coach?
NateIII11 absolutely. Basically the Rams became the joke of the NFC west and struggled the whole 2000s and 2010s after warner left for Arizona and failed miserably with Jeff fisher and sam Bradford. The Rams were so bad they had to change scenery to an original home to reboot their franchise. Meanwhile, because the Rams lost to a 6th round QB and a new head coach formerly fired by Cleveland, that would ultimately spark the greatest dynasty professional football has ever seen, a dominant run of success over a span of 19 years and counting. And who knows, this Sunday, maybe all these years later, these two will have a chance at a rematch in Atlanta. What a story that would be.

I was 21 years old and me and my little brother went to this game. I’m so grateful that I was able to witness our first playoff win:) the tickets were a Christmas bonus from work
The Rams made a huge comeback in the game. They had all the momentum when Az-Hakim muffed the punt. Had he not muffed it, St. Louis could've won the game.
2000 Rams were the greatest offense that has ever been put on an NFL field. Half the 4th qtr gone, down 31-7, and they almost pull off one of the greatest playoff comebacks in history. I have no doubt that if they had won this game, they would have gotten through the Giants for the 2nd time that season and have no trouble dismantling the Vikings for the 3rd time in a one year period. They were absolute perfection. Bruce, Holt, Faulk, Warner, just unreal how they all worked together so efficiently. I'm a Broncos fan, 2013 Denver has nothing on this offense. They put up 35 points on Tampa Bay, in Tampa against that all time great defense! Enough said!
I'm not sure about it being a forgone conclusion of them getting past those other NFC teams if they had gotten past the Saints. I agree the 2000 Rams offense was spectacular. "The greatest show on turf" at it's absolute peak. Even greater then the previous year when they won the SB and the year after when they got back to the SB and had probably there greatest overall team during that 3 year stretch. But there defense in 2000 was just about atrocious. Which is why they hired Lovie Smith in that off season to run the defense. There 2000 defense would have still eventually caused there down fall IMO.
You really should consider the fact that they played their best in domes. January in New Jersey would have slowed them down. Even if they got to NFCC Giants would have won.
Unfortunately, the tape we had did not have an opening intro. It just went straight to the kickoff. We also love those classic intros so anytime we have it we promise to use it!
St Louis Rams were heavily favored to win this game, as a fan way back before they were St Louis to now back in LA. That was a huge win for them, broke our backs with that muff. Outstanding game nevertheless. Huge game this season that we lost now a even bigger one coming Saturday. Awesome story, it is time to nut up or shut up. Win at all costs go LA Rams!

All my family and I felt like we finally broke a voodoo curse or some shit until the following week when Randy Moss and the Vikings beat us so bad like as if we weren't even suppose to be there lol. And It was all downhill from there tho Aaron Brooks was a one season wonder and we went back to the lowest of lows in the NFL. But then came Mickey Loomis and enter Payton and Brees who would then bring us to heights we only dreamed of. But I will always love the black and gold like my parents before me and my children after me. #WHODATNATION until I die

i remember this game with such fondness because of the looks on all the bandwagon rams fans when they lost. they could not believe it, they though this was going to be a gimme walk-over game. Not one of them remained a Rams fan in the long run. You can even hear these announcer sounded like they wanted to be on that bandwagon too.
Nice junk punch by Bruce at 4:34 LOL! I remember this game like it was yesterday, being a Rams fan. We started off something like 7-0 that year, played Kansas City, Warner got hurt, and things kinda snowballed from there. If memory serves me correctly, we needed help from Paul Edinger of the Bears to beat the Lions to get into the playoffs on the last day of the regular season. And still had a chance to win this game and then who knows after that. However, the defense was really bad this year. They were extremely underrated the year before when we won the Super Bowl, thankx largely in part to the explosive offense. Ahhhhh man, I'll never ever forget that punt to Az Hakim.
@@NorCalRamsfan You must think the Saints were way better than the 2000 Ravens then since if the Saints had to nearly choke just for the Rams to avoid getting crushed by the Saints what do you think the Ravens would've done to the Rams?
I always wondered what Aaron Brooks might have been with a competent coach or in today's era where qb coaching is a lot better. Also surreal to remember a time where Jim Haslett was a "rising star".
Great game!! I remember being so happy the Rams lost this game. As a Vikings fan, I was scared of those Rams teams. Of course it didn't matter in the end... sigh
As a fellow Viking fan, even if the Rams pulled it off I don't think they would've beaten the Vikings at the Metrodome. Their defense was very suspect, Warner had taken another beating from the Saints 'D' and the Vikings were coming off a 1st round bye. Moss, Carter, Smith, and Culpepper would've been too much for them.
I think the Rams were a horrible matchup for the Vikings and it showed in 1999 and 2000. The Vikings secondary was terrible and the pass rush wasn’t good enough. The Vikings defense was at its worst at the end of the season too, getting lit up by Warner, Favre, Manning and Kerry Collins. Even Shaun King lit them up twice and the Bucs had a 41 point game against them. The Bucs! Vikings did play better at home and their only hope was to catch the Rams D on a bad day. Maybe Minnesota didn’t show the Rams everything when they played during the season.
I think the most disappointing thing about the regular season game in 2000 was the Vikings offense had a disappointing game against the Rams defense. The Rams were up 33-14 in the 3rd quarter in that game. Bud Carson was brought in as a defensive consultant and it improved the defense significantly. Also the Vikings only had 8 interceptions that year. That’s it. Warner had zero in the game against them. To beat the Rams you needed to force turnovers.
Isaac Bruce with the sneaky Taint Punch!!! 4:32 mark. High yah!!! He always had great Ball Skills!!! Strait to the B gap! He Hits the hole hard!!! There's a million of em. P
I wonder why Aaron Brooks didn’t have a better career. Those first couple of years of him as a Saints starting quarterback, he was actually pretty good. He had size, a live arm, nice touch, and was mobile. I still remember a game in late 2002 with him going up against Mike Vick and the Falcons. It was a shoot out in one of the most entertaining games I watched that year. Vick was obviously the star of the show but I remember Aaron Brooks held his own quite well against him as he did here against MVP level Kurt Warner.
Broke my heart when Az Hakim fumbled..broke my heart when Steve Smith took the slant for 6 in overtime..GSOT should’ve been the dynasty of all dynasties😢..#GoRams
I live in Las Vegas and I remember that despite being the #6 seed the sportsbooks had the Rams as the favorites to come out of the NFC. And they probably would have if they'd gotten past this game because they had routed the Giants and Vikings, the #1 and #2 seeds that year. But the Saints had their number, beating them 2 out of 3.
To many memories as a saints fan since 1998 this was our first playoff victory in team history in look at us now bout to win our second super bowl yes we goin to win it this year
This Rams team might be one of the most odd in NFL history. Their offense was still historically great (like in 1999 and 200) but it was coupled with a historically bad defense the kicker is how this was sandwiched in between two seasons where they had a top 5 defense in the league, bizarre
I’d say that this was the best offense during the Greatest Show on Turf era. Their defense was horrible which why they had to play in so many shootouts in 2000. And Marshall Faulk truly carrying the team made the offense more efficient.

Not like he was a top 5 in the league kind of guy, but he was good and actually, digging into his stats, had loads of comeback, game-winning drives, at least by how pro-football-reference counts them. His 05 season was super bad and that sadly is how lots of Saints fans remember him.
@@unlimitedpower978 And the fans sleep on the fact that Brooks held many of the team passing records before Breeze. My feeling was always that Brooks had an injury in 03 or 04 after which he was not the same. Still Team Hall of Famer for this win if nothing else.
SmackBone who is Breeze??? never heard of him
I agree his passer rating of 78.6 earned him a Saints hall of fame spot!
Saints fan for 25 years. I missed this one. Realized I was out of state during U.S. Army training.
It would've been real interesting if the Ravens had played the Rams in the Super Bowl instead of the Giants.
Acting like they'd beat the Giants...
Or the Vikings
@@JackRule16 I don't think he's implying any of that. Not sure if you're a Giants fan or not but defending the honor of a team that got destroyed in that SB seems kinda silly.
Rams would have gotten beat too. Stop it.
The Rams didn't have the defense that year. A much more interesting matchup would have been if the Rams played as good in 2000 as they did in 2001
6:10 that was awesome. Brooks was throwing mad darts out there.
Crazy that this is almost 20 years ago
Me and my brother rejoiced so hard when we saw that game live. Great 1st playoff win for the Saints and yrs later led to a 1st super bowl win
The patriots filmed the rams practice and plays before that super bowl
@Maxwell Wooley Literally didn't happen, the Boston Herald apologised for using alternative facts from an anonymous source to formulate a story yet you continue to reciprocate these falsities
stealthiscool you don’t know that? Them saying it was false has zero determination of what actually happened. You probably think Barry bonds and mark mcgwire cranked 70+ home runs all natural too don’t you? 😂🤷♂️
Maxwell Wooley IT LITERALLY DIDNT HAPPEN! You’re utterly delusional, get a life and stop ignoring facts to justify your hatred www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bostonherald.com/2008/05/14/apology/amp/
Being a Saints fan is never easy, but it is worth it, my dad took me to this game I was either 8 or 9 years old I’m 28 now, crazy memories, the saints were trying to give the game away, thank god for that botched punt reception
I was 21 years old and me and my little brother went to this game. I’m so grateful that I was able to witness our first playoff win:) the tickets were a Christmas bonus from work
I miss when both wild card games were on ABC or NBC rather than ESPN. ESPN took the joy out of wild card weekend.
Alfonso Fernandez ESPN and ABC are the same thing. ABC only has one game these days anyway. Fox did the WC Saturday night game this year
Who also remembers Dennis Miller doing MNF😂
I wish Jim Henderson's call on the botched punt was played instead
HAKIM DROPS THE BALL! THERE IS A GOD AFTER ALL! :)
I’m assuming this game is why offsides on the kicking team doesn’t give them another chance at an onside kick
This was the saints first ever playoff win…they were founded in 1967, 33 years before this game
The 2000 rams was the worst team outta their 3 years they went 10-6 after starting 6-0 and just barely made the playoffs
The comeback attempt begins at 7:21
The real mind blowing insanity starts at 9:02
Unfortunately, the tape we had did not have an opening intro. It just went straight to the kickoff. We also love those classic intros so anytime we have it we promise to use it!
NFL Throwback that’s alright you can’t control that. Great vid!
Puzzling as to how the Rams defense was so bad in 2000 with most of the same players from the 1999 team that actually had a really good defense.
Xever Williams Saints now are better than they were as now they are the heavily favorites to go to the super bowl.
The first playoff win in the history of the Saints franchise, after being a team for nearly 40 years.
I remember this game like if it were yesterday I was 16 and It was our very first playoff win, hell it felt like we won the superbowl.
Ric Dweld question is will history repeat itself since this time your team is playing the rams for the rights to go to Super Bowl 53. I’m pulling for you guys though.
Saint was dookie but had talent compared to now but dam I was only few years behind you
The Rams should have won multiple super bowls with the offense they had
but defence wins championships!!
Well, they had a chance, but Tom. Fuckin'. Brady.
@@matthewdowling6549 not once but twice! 36 and 53! brady and the patriots own the rams!

Aaron Brooks threw two passes in this game that were favre like.. man that dude could whip it
First playoff win for Saints. Brutal final 10 min. God bless Milne
“There is a god after all!”
20 years later and the highlights make me damn near as nervous as the day i watched this play out....some crazy years in the late 90s and early 00s for the aints. Who dat.
First football game I distinctly remember watching. I was 6 and had a case of the chickenpox. I remember it was slightly after Christmas, and that my dad and his best friend were going crazy during the game as I dozed on and off.
I feel like when on aaron brooks had a bit of DeShaun watson to his game bouncing around in the pocket moving around slinging darts across the field
What a gem! Thought it was a click bait title until that 4th quarter madness. Those onside kicks were perfect but can't help but feel robbed that we didn't get to see how that warner two minute drill would have played out
Bruh...Im from VA and was pulling for Aaron Brooks like hell! People forget that's Mike Vick's cousin.
20 years today 😩
Brooks was nice for a hot second. Oh and Marshall Faulk was a bad man always !!!
Omg i just realized this was 19 YEARS AGO!

@@CrysisOwnsHalo im counting years bro. Its noting serious.
Who remembers watching Aaron Brooks throwing interseptions and then jogging off the feild with a big cheesy smile on his face.
Man, those Rams teams were potent back then
i remember this game with such fondness because of the looks on all the bandwagon rams fans when they lost. they could not believe it, they though this was going to be a gimme walk-over game. Not one of them remained a Rams fan in the long run.
You can even hear these announcer sounded like they wanted to be on that bandwagon too.
I honestly feel Warner could have been Drew Brees had he not had all those injuries.
Or made it to the NFL before he was 50.
Damn right !!! and even better
Willie Jackson was a beast this game
The Saints' first playoff win ever. Only took them 34 years.
Another fantastic game choice, i love this channel
This win by the Saints ruined a possible Rams vs Ravens Super Bowl, thanks Saints.......
You are welcome.....
Rams would have beaten Baltimore damn you saints
@@NorCalRamsfan I doubt it. The Ravens defense was too amazing
@@NorCalRamsfan :)
This is more remarkable for being the FIRST PLAYOFF WIN IN SAINTS HISTORY.
But go off on that comeback...
Thanks Az Hakim and Brian Milne!
Back then, the Saints always played the Rams tough
Division rivalries back then.
I miss those rams uniforms
They blow. The LA ones are way cooler and they never should have changed. Plus the Super Bowl they won in St Louis was in the LA uniforms
Me too
Saints fans must have felt relieved when Hakim fumbled at the end. That Rams offense was really cooking.
This game was never on YT or whatever. It's like Top 5 of the forgotten great games in playoffs history.
This was the Saints' first playoff win, right?
Phinal Flash #FireCleteBlakeman yes I believe so
Yes I was at this game
Phinal Flash #FireCleteBlakeman yea it was our super bowl basically
Dill Pickle trash lmao
That Guy says the guy who’s team hasn’t won a Super Bowl yet
I remember this like it was yesterday.
@@deanladue3151 maybe , but I remember them killing the Vikings earlier. It would have been close.
What happened to Az Hakim?
Exceptional playmaker
Definitely one of the best #3 WRs of the 2000s for sure.
Its easy to forget that before Drew Brees, Aaron Brooks was the best quarterback in Saints history.
Isaac Bruce with the sneaky Taint Punch!!! 4:32 mark. High yah!!! He always had great Ball Skills!!! Strait to the B gap! He Hits the hole hard!!! There's a million of em. P
why does 2000 look like 1980 now?
You guys should do The duel between wilson and watson from last year
The Saints first ever playoff win.
Damn dude at the end straight up choked
Started out 8-0 that year and it went downhill from there.
yes because Warner broke his hand/thumb
Saints first playoff win came hard , but not surprised everything up to then was
2:10 a blatant hold by No. 40, should have called it back, just like they called back the huge run by Faulk couple of plays back
I wonder why Aaron Brooks didn’t have a better career.
Love this channel u definitely got my subscription
6:15 that's Jake Delhomme as Aaron Brooks' backup before he got his big break in Carolina
We had real potential back then. We just did not have the coaching and front office. Our first ever playoff win.
Willie Jackson had a huge game three touchdowns and Sammy Knight had three interceptions.
yeah XD, them boys wasn't playin that game
Terry Allen played for the Saints? And was still playing in 2000? Crazy the shit you learn watching these games
The first playoff win in Saints history.
I’d say that this was the best offense during the Greatest Show on Turf era. Their defense was horrible which why they had to play in so many shootouts in 2000. And Marshall Faulk truly carrying the team made the offense more efficient.
Lol, I thought that the rams would come back, BUT HE MUFFED THE PUNT HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
“has taken the Saints to Minnesota” we know how that ends lol
