    I am just getting ready to replace the foam in my center sofa cushion and when I took the cover off I was dumbfounded when I saw the feather envelope! I thought the whole thing would be full of feathers and they would fly everywhere when it was opened up. After watching your video, I see that they are enclosed in a casing of their own on front and back, thanks for this amazing video, it took the fear out of tackling this project by myself!

      Hello Trudy, thank you for watching the video I am glad to hear how it helped you and gave you confidence to work on the project, awesome. As a reminder if you’re replacing the foam that goes inside the duvet cover of feathers. You would order that foam with the exact size the foam is. You wouldn’t add anything to it. Hope that makes sense again thanks for watching. Cheers, Paul

    I’m so glad I saw video as I was about to hit order! I just realized my foam is inside a cushion cover with fiber fill sewed in the bottom and a layer of down feather sewed into the top. Now I need to go remeasure. I have to say the Dad looks and sounds so much like Steve Zahan I thought he quit acting and got into the foam business :) I wonder if he hears that a lot.

    A tip for controlling that crazy long thread: wax it. Thread wax. Super cheap and simple to use but keeps that long thread from tangling up so much. Thread waxers are just about $8 and last for years.

      Hello Layla, thank you for watching the video apologies for the late reply we’ve been extremely busy here and had very little time. There’s a lot of places online to get quality fabric. fabric.com is one of many. What do you want to look for is what’s called double rubs that’s the abrasion factor or the durability factor of a fabric. For normal use we recommend 13,000 double rubs or higher. That will last you many many years. If they don’t show the double rubs then I wouldn’t buy it. I hope has helped you on your project. Cheers, Paul

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Ally,
      Excellent question! Yes, feathers are either lost or just degrade over time. The two options you have is to add additional feathers or add dacron wrap to your insert to compensate for the loss of feathers.

  • @maryvsshehan4808
    @maryvsshehan4808 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Love this video! The foam insert I'm replacing is inside of a clean and well sewn dacron envelope which I would love to reuse, especially because this is a t-cushion. The center part of the dacron is flattened ( where one would sit) but the rest is still plump and rounded. Is there any way I can fluff up the flattened part- is it steamable?Thanks, so much!

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Mary, thanks for watching the videos really glad you enjoyed them appreciate you leaving a comment. I understand what you’re saying but unfortunately not to my knowledge is there a way to refresh Dacron batting. Even if the steam were to work on the Dacron batting it would flatten as soon as you started using it again. However you could just add some more in the center of the cushion if it’s feathered out correctly it’ll give you a bit of a crowning look, fuller feel. I hope this is helpful and thanks again. Please share the videos it helps us a lot when you do. Cheers, Paul

    I got lost at the end of the stitching. How are you keeping the looped tail at the end of your stitch, and how are you able to pull the end through when the thread in between is all stitched through fabric? Hopefully that makes sense.

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will to answer your question. Not sure exactly what you are asking. With the EXTRA thread, at the end of the wrap two or three times around the needle pull it through. Or SIMPLY make any knot you can come up with at the end it doesn’t have to the way I did it. So long as it stay knotted you be fine. I hope this helps you something are to difficult to explain in text. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Paul

    I have a new sofa with a cushion that is too hard. I would like to take out the dense foam and put in a softer foam insert. Is that possible?

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Lauren,
      Sorry to hear that! Yes, you can control the firmness of your new seat cushion by changing the compression. For example an average seat cushion at 26 compression is soft, at 35 compression is medium, and at 45 compression is firm. The density of the foam has to do more with the quality and not the firmness. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions.

In regards to detaching the back cushions we do have a video that shows how to do that which I can send you a link of once when you get close to that as part of the project. The next step is for us to get in contact on our website at UCprivatecourses.com, there’s a live chat where you can send photos and all our messages will be saved. I look forward to seeing you there! My mom took classes in early 70's and she tried to show by taking my twin brother to her classes but that was a long time age. I found my fabric and went to a uplostery shop in Ellen Ohio. The man I spoke to said I need about 12 yards. I will send you a photo of the sample fabric with the color. I have to purchase a compressor and gun I was wondering if home depot has decent equipment. At what point is a foam piece not steamable, bringing it back to life? I periodically steam my own couch cushions, let them dry and reinsert in their covers. I assume that if the foam is degraded and is falling apart into pills, it is no longer useful. But up to that point, it is still revivable, right?

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! The steam is only temporary and it only swells the foam to its original size, not to its original longevity. So, to answer your question if the foam is no longer giving you the desired support then you'll need to replace it. If it is not looking good but still has enough support for you, you can wrap it with more dacron/poly batting. And if your foam is pilling it can still be used but just judge it whether it should be replaced or not by the criteria mentioned above.

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there thanks for the comment. I am not sure if you’re wanting to add the feathers to give more support to the cushions. If so that’s just gonna to give it a soft plush feel, it will NOT add support to your cushions. However you need to make duvet cover with channels and you push the feathers into the channels. Then you put your foam inside the duvet covers with the feathers. But your cushion covers have to accommodate room for the feathers so this can get quite complicated. Because you’d have to cut your polyfoam down so it doesn’t take up as much room. I hope this give you insight into what to do. Please share the videos that helps us when you do. Cheers, Paul
