    Better than many videos. But still more confusing than helpful.

    I'm needing to replace windows in my daughter's 1950's home. I'll use this to measure them and hope it goes right.

      Have confidence and double check your measurements. Allow for the recommended expansion gap and you’ll be good to go!

    Do you measure differently for a full frame replacement vs pocket/insert replacement?

    • @DaruDhillon
      @DaruDhillon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jo, I measure exclusively for full-frame replacement windows as I'm usually replacing vinyl or dated aluminum. For insert measurements you would measure differently. There are some older videos on TH-cam that have insert measurement tutorials but I would also check with your window manufacturer to see what they recommend. Good question, and good luck with your project!

    I just had to replace some windows in an apartment building where they were made of aluminum in 1968. Complete disaster getting them out and he ordered too small of replacements that we had to use. Measurements are extremely important. Great video.

    The pivot pins on the sash are not seated correctly in the balance blocks. I recognize that sound immediately. That is the sound of the brakes scraping down the inside of the frame. (In my humble opinion)

      You may be right. This window is squeezed into the rough opening so tight I’m sure there’s a multitude of problems. Appreciate the diagnosis. Good ears! That comes with experience.

      Very helpful! I'm gearing up to replacing windows in the spring when the siding is done along with tyvac house wrap. ThermoTec vynil windows for me. I'm in Minnesota and ThermoTec is in St. Cloud, Minnesota. 20 years on the quipment. 10 years on the glass. The more I study an work through the window buying process the more enlightened I am with the pros and cons of the industry. Very good video BTW. Just subbed your channel 👍 😀

      @@edspencer7121 Sounds like you have a good spring project ahead and good on you for doing your research before ordering your windows. Having a warranty on the work and window glass is important. Thanks so much for subscribing and for taking the time to comment! You'll appreciate the comfort of your new windows especially in the winter. I'm in Toronto so I know it makes a big difference to help keep in the heat.

      The shortest will allow the window to fit in the opening with the correct shim allowance.

    Wrong. Must measure from inside

    • @DaruDhillon
      @DaruDhillon  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I prefer to maximize the amount of glass to allow for more natural light. So measuring from the outside guarantees the largest size of window possible! ☀️ I show what happens with inside measurements in the video.
