It’s pretty incredible, I agree. The first album, The Olden Domain and Quintessence are my favorite albums by them but you summed it up well. This seems to be something special for the long time fans.
Great to see Kristoffer Rygg (Garm), Andreas Hedlund (Vintersorg), Simen Hestnæs (ICS Vortex) and Lars Are Nedland (Lazare) doing the vocals on a single Borknagar track.
Wow. Vortex, Garm, Vintersorg, Nedland altogether, seems like a team of an All-Star game treat. Such a collaboration may have seen impossible 10 years ago. Thx a lot guys. I'm Greek and I listen to Borknagar since the Quintessence and Empiricism days in 2001. Nice holiday gift for Winter and on the right time, because this song was posted on the first night after Winter Solstice 2015 \m/ !!

Søren Nielsen yeah seriously man..the Danes literally WERE the Vikings that everyone always equates to swedes and Norwegians, who were mostly farmers. their occupation in England the Danelaw lasted like 400 years, and they held both crowns for a while. you subdued the rest of Scandinavia for centuries, it's kind of weird you're an afterthought for most people now, when Finland is more Slavic than Nordic, although really they're one of the most unique and one of a kind cultures on the planet without much crossover between other ethnic groups
When singularly talented musicians come together... we rejoice. Vortex is fantastic as always but Garm is pure magic here. Only upon listening to it many times becomes evident what a universe he packs into that kind of calm, understated style of singing. Masterful - as is the entire song, from start to finish.
Yes hitty hitty bang bang did a fine job, BUT THE SINGERS!!(I personally love both but understand how shity it is when someone finds amazing instrumentals dull or almost irrelevant when they're usually harder to accomplish than pitches and tones in many cases).
This is by far the best Vocalist line-up ever,, the whole album with Lazare, Vitersorg, Garm, ICS Vortex and others, I only feel Ihsahn should've been invited to take part too with his wonderful clear/harsh vocals, hope this collaboration happen someday in near future
@@plaswuff1670 As much as I love Akerfeldt, his vocal style in Opeth is so different that I'm not sure how well it would fit in with this style of music. He did a good job doing guest vocals for Edge of Sanity though.

Vortex is the only vocalist who can do Garm's vocals justice and honour him. The talent of those two guys is just not of this world but something else.
Borknagar (and Garm) sound good, as always. Biggest surprise was Vintersorg: thought he was hospitalized. Hope he's feeling better. Long live Borknagar! \m/
+Vaggos Tsek not fully, afaik he did suffer from some permanent damage to his hearing. he's not deaf but there has been a loss of some hearing in one of his ears. ,"The minor back problem" what happened was, Andreas helped a friend move and carried heavy furniture and at some point he slipped and fell -apart from the back problem from the fall and the loss of hearing due to hitting his head when he fell, i think he also broke his arm at that point.
+One True Vikingbard What's odd is that Vintersorg appears on the recordings of the new album and in this video but not in the recent promo photos of the band...I would understand his absence if they were taken during the tour while he was hospitalized but Garm is in some of them which makes me suspect that the photos were taken during the new album sessions. Then again perhaps because he was injured, he came only to the sessions he needed to record after most of the album was already recorded, plus he's the only swede in the bunch
+Ilan Kutsman he probably did his sessions either before his injury or from home in Sweden. The recent promo pictures were taken during the video shoot which Vintersorg wasn't a part of because he couldn't fly to Norway from his home in Sweden.
My two favourite male vocalists in one video, this is still absolutely epic! Vortex catapults my soul everytime up to the skies, and Garm warms my heart with melancholy, it's just the perfect blend!
Never heard of these guys until about 5 minutes ago...but the music totally rocks! It has a little bit of everything. I'm definitely going to have to listen to more of their stuff.
Le morceau de BM PROG par excellence les voix de Garm, Vintersorg, Vortex et Ned s'entremêlent à merveille sur cet hymne à l'hiver. He was a full time member in their early days. Garm was their vocalist for Borknagar's first two albums. They were stylistically quite different back then, though.
I still can't believe this song exists. It's like the history of the entire band in a single song. Still one of my favorites to this very day.

5:17 that little nod after he growls "Winter Thrice" is like he wants to make sure you understand he really means it.
To me it looks like a tiny headbang that long haired vocalists often do after finishing a verse
Vintersorg was famous for his very long hair. He cut it for a local cancer campaign that needed long hair to make wigs for chemo patients.
That was a truly awesome thing to do. :)

I've said the same thing! I love that nod. So much power in such a tiny gesture lol

Wakes the beastly void
Winter thrice
Horizons that hosts no scenery
Starless, unending skies
Wakes the beastly void
Starless, unending skies
The dance of stardust stills
Drapes the mountain
Winter thrice
By Odin's beard... this is simply amazing!
this fucking Kristoffer Rygg voice is so badass, it's what making this song so perfect, I wish he become a permanent member of BORKNAGAR
id recommend checking out arcturus' older work and ulver if you like his voice
He was a full time member in their early days. Garm was their vocalist for Borknagar's first two albums. They were stylistically quite different back then, though.
^ Only on the first record
Rowsdower Nope, he was on The Olden Domain too. Look it up.
