Absolutely. I'm obsessed with that part. Put it through some AI filters to figure out what's being played and I think I can hear it, but it's really complex and beautiful.
This album masterfully captures the balance Mikael Åkerfeldt set out to establish 13 years ago when he decided to take a break from harsh vocals. During that time, he explored new textures and experiences that now come together in a work that blends the band’s personal and artistic journey. It’s an album that completely envelops you with its aura, atmosphere, and narrative, drawing you into a deeply human sonic landscape. Virtuosity has always been an unmistakable hallmark of Opeth. With flawless production and obsessive attention to detail, the band perfectly balances the weight and fury of their signature style while adding a dark and somber depth that enriches their sound. Mikael, after 34 years as the creative core of the band, sounds more solid, versatile, and vital than ever. His voice remains the gravitational center, anchoring every note and emotion. On drums, Waltteri Väyrynen brings a fresh energy while preserving the essence crafted by legends like Martin Axenrot and Martin López. His dynamism revitalizes the band’s rhythmic foundation. Meanwhile, Martín Méndez, constant and unwavering for 27 years, continues to be the indispensable partner shaping each song’s structure, always adding depth and strength to every composition. Fredrik Åkesson, who made his mark with Arch Enemy before joining Opeth, has proven that this was one of the best decisions of his life. His solos, speed, and rhythmic textures elevate the grandeur of this album. Joakim Svalberg, for his part, is a fundamental pillar in the album’s most disorienting and beautiful moments. His work on the mellotron and keyboards, combined with his vocal support, enriches every passage with harmony and grace. This album undoubtedly represents Opeth’s most defined and cohesive work to date-a new standard that opens the door to more ambitious musical horizons. Balancing a look to the future with the foundations that ground them, the band’s genuine passion and commitment to musical artistry shine through. With this release, Opeth doesn’t just meet expectations-they surpass them and transcend themselves. ❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥

As someone who has distanced themselves from metal as they've aged, I can truly say that this has reignited my passion for heavier music. Don't get me wrong, I've never disliked metal and I've been a fan of Opeth for many years. My taste in metal tends to lean towards the more extreme side of things. Perhaps it's just modern metal that doesn't do it for me. Anyway, it's a very welcome occurrence that Opeth have brought back the heavier side and yet kept their unique sound. This band has never gotten stuck in one genre or another. Sure they have a distinct Opeth groove to their sound but they've always evolved and tried different things. This track in particular is a solid gateway into Opeth. For people that have never heard them before, this track gives you a small taste of what they've done and more importantly, what they are doing with the heavy prog genre. At least that's if you wish to describe it as such. I prefer to call it good music.

Damn! This is such a great album. Hands down, one of the best releases of this year, and, what’s more, it is great because of the concept and compositional aspect of it, I think this would be incredible even without the growls. It’s even kinda funny cuz I can imagine Mikael thinking the good reception is boosted by the fact he is growling again, but actually when you listen to this the jawdropping moments don’t necessarily come from the harsh vocals (although they sound better than ever). It’s an album you finish and feel the need to listen again to pick more details. Maybe I should give it more time to say this, but I think this is one of the best Opeth albums they’ve ever made.
I don't think i've ever been so hyped when listening to a song. As soon as I heard the flute I lost it. Ian Anderson paired up with Opeth, what a treat.
As a huge fan of Swedish Shining, the new Opeth album is very good really! Especially §6 and A Story Never Told bringing up some really emotional melodies to let yourself drift into. When it comes to Swedish bands Shining, Opeth and Katatonia are the most innovative creating their own styles which do not fall into the category of just metal - and this is why I like them three the most!

People are chuckling about the flute solo but the transition into this conspiratorial, sordid sound as the father reveals the truth of his children's lineage, followed by the heavy part as he bitterly recounts it, was harrowing to listen to the first time.
They have never missed. Not a single bad album (I dont care about your "muh gr0wlzz" reee) in their discography. Accomplished that while maintaining a very distinct sound. One of the best to ever do it
Dude, YES…hearing that scream again is an elixir for my soul. There’s a lot of interesting musical stuff to unpack here but Mike screaming again is exactly what the doctor ordered.
I still prefer it over no video at all honestly. It's just a neat backdrop with nice presentation of the lyrics instead of reading them line by line on Spotify or something.
What I interpreted out of this paragraph: The father was unable to impregnate, apparently through having been poisoned. And due to him wanting to have children, he paid another man to make his wife concieve eventualy the twins (controversial plan; gold in mouth, he impregnates) As it seems, the "donator" would soon perish after said events (soon in nameless grave)
I know Mikael was fed up and tired with the constant questions (and yet still polite about it) on bringing those growls back, and I do fully understand it - but *MAN* does it sound good to have thát voice in the mix too.... Just received the album late this afternoon *with* the signed card!!! Going to have loads of fun tomorrow with that - my neighbours too 😜👍🙏🙏🙏🙏
And now in tranquil fortitude The shifting sands of time I was sick with fever (he's sick with fever) Hand on the hymns (collapsing, expiring) Ashen eyes, delirium (no) Soliloquy, suspirium No, no, no A lock on the sanctum One of the cursed (one of the cursed) Forever in debt Daughter, my unfortunate son I bequeath you verity Twins, usurping strands of flesh You are not mine Poisoned loins of mother Cursed my vigorous seed Longing for a child and my love for her Birthed a controversial plan Her eye on him One so ordinary, soon in nameless grave The bane of my existence Sordid flesh communion Gold in mouth, he impregnates Swallowed my shame Like a man of affairs With lineage and name Still fast my prayers

Listening throu for first time. Thus far this is my favorite song. Fantastic.
They have never missed. Not a single bad album (I dont care about your "muh gr0wlzz" reee) in their discography. Accomplished that while maintaining a very distinct sound. One of the best to ever do it
I'm super surprised by this album. Man, so rich. Love it!
Great song and solo!
Dude, YES…hearing that scream again is an elixir for my soul. There’s a lot of interesting musical stuff to unpack here but Mike screaming again is exactly what the doctor ordered.
This is monumental.
That mid section with the flute and guitarsolo give me chills!!
Please don't associate the God of prog with AI slop, we don't need that.
Yeah i thought these clips were ai generated. That's a huge shame
Especially since there were real pictures in the vid
@@tajcraft1238 I see nothing wrong with it.
I still prefer it over no video at all honestly. It's just a neat backdrop with nice presentation of the lyrics instead of reading them line by line on Spotify or something.
This is how they want it. It keeps with the spookyness and story . Be glad the song isn't written in AI.
Okay don't work with the guy who made this video again, cause he half-assed it with AI generated images. And I know y'all care about art, don't you?
I agree
I disagree, the video looked perfectly fitting for any Opeth track imo.
Some of their best work. This makes me happy.
Nothing like a little bit o' Jazz Flute to start the day 😀
That flute solo and following section absolutely soars
This easy standout song on the album on initial listens. This album is full of incredible moments.
What a masterpiece this album is 🖤 🔥
What I interpreted out of this paragraph:
The father was unable to impregnate, apparently through having been poisoned.
And due to him wanting to have children, he paid another man to make his wife concieve eventualy the twins (controversial plan; gold in mouth, he impregnates)
As it seems, the "donator" would soon perish after said events (soon in nameless grave)
I love the rythm and the singing!!
I know Mikael was fed up and tired with the constant questions (and yet still polite about it) on bringing those growls back, and I do fully understand it - but *MAN* does it sound good to have thát voice in the mix too....
Just received the album late this afternoon *with* the signed card!!! Going to have loads of fun tomorrow with that - my neighbours too 😜👍🙏🙏🙏🙏
And now in tranquil fortitude
The shifting sands of time
I was sick with fever (he's sick with fever)
Hand on the hymns (collapsing, expiring)
Ashen eyes, delirium (no)
Soliloquy, suspirium
No, no, no
A lock on the sanctum
One of the cursed (one of the cursed)
Forever in debt
Daughter, my unfortunate son
I bequeath you verity
Twins, usurping strands of flesh
You are not mine
Poisoned loins of mother
Cursed my vigorous seed
Longing for a child and my love for her
Birthed a controversial plan
Her eye on him
One so ordinary, soon in nameless grave
The bane of my existence
Sordid flesh communion
Gold in mouth, he impregnates
Swallowed my shame
Like a man of affairs
With lineage and name
Still fast my prayers
Loving the flute
Like always it is a masterpiece. Can't wait to hear the full Album ❤
Another really good track with tasty transitions :D
Can’t wait for the vinyl on this one. What a masterpiece this album is
Omg the growls are back baby!!
If only that was a good thing by itself!... it lacks everything else!
@@Michael_MichaelsAgreed. The music is all over the place and full of prog finger gymnastics.
@@ThePixelnator IDK, I mean the development from the harp section is pretty subtle, has good drum dynamics, a catchy riff, a solo with a lot of space and a great transition back into the growls, that not worthy of merit?
@@ThePixelnatorI'd normally agree with you regarding Opeth's later stuff, but this is actually pretty tasteful, in my view anyway.
Opeth are true musicians because they are able to change refrain, sound, vibes, components etc. Expect the next album!
Opeth sounds properly exciting again, you get that sense of discovery, polarity of extreme metal was needed, calm parts sounds more welcoming
“Lotus Eater 2 isn’t real, it can’t hurt you”
Lotus Eater 2:
Wow! It does sound like part 2, the best song off Watershed.
Ugh, was gonna wait until after work to listen to the entire album, as we all should, but I have to peek. I HAVE TO PEEK.
