That is the neat thing about having Mauser actions. You can make what you want, within reason. I used one from a VZ24 to build a 6.5x55. It is a good shooting rifle too. Accurate and low recoil vs the 30-06 I used for years, which I love, but... the recoil for an old man is not friendly. Your rifle is nice and short. It should do well. I agree, with a tad of reloading you will get that group down. I suspect it will settle down (the pet load) to a nice little .5" or better. I agree ref the scope being up pretty high. Just swap out for some low mount rings and all should be good to go.
Your rifle looks great. Good job on fixing the muzzle break. I was really interested in your build because I'm thinking about using one of my 1893 actions to build a 450 Bushmaster. I have machine tools, stock blanks, a 45 cal Green mountain blank, and there's an orange kickeez pad in one of the drawers. About all I need is to pick up a reamer. The question that I wanted to ask you is about feeding. I assume that because of the larger case body only 4 rounds fit in the magazine. Do the cartridges feed well without modifying the feed rails? Did you have to do any work on the follower? It takes some fitting on the sear slot in the tang, and the cocking piece, to get a Timney trigger to work on a '93 but I've done that before. Did you glass bed your action? FYI: the eyepiece bell on modern scopes are usually bigger in diameter than older scopes like your Unertl, and sometimes the bolt handle can contact against the eyepiece so don't toss out those high scope rings just yet.
What did you do to get good cartridge feed out of the magazine. I am doing a 98 in 450 and have not been able to get the cartridge feed figured out. Biggest issue is the cartridge nosing down. I did put about a 5/8" space to put in the rear of the magazine and am using a remington 700 300 WSM SA follower. Any advice would be appreciatied. Thanks
Nice build. How did you finish the metal ? I'm building a very similar rifle! Mines even getting a unertl 4x hawk scope. I'd like to share with you if you're interested. I also tried to order a rhineland arms barrel. They never shipped it. Had to dispute the charges. Ended up using a green mountain

Awesome!! You’re better off that way. Rhinelands are probably Green Mountain blanks anyways. The finish is graphite black cerakote.
How did rhineland "eventually make it right"?
They refunded me
