    Mahershala's tears are VERY beautiful. THAT'S what you want in this world. Now you see WHY this movie is everything? Everyone involved has heart.

      His character was absolutely beautiful I loved him reaching out to an abused/troubled child to guide and care for him the best he could.

    These people have CREATED a Masterpiece.. All the parts come together into perfection and they made history.. I was struck how by how sensitive and honest the actors were, that they were brought to tears, expressing themselves..

    Juan and Theresa were SOOOO vital in Chiron’s development... he truly needed SOMEONE in his corner to talk to and be there if he needed them to LISTEN. I love the fact that although Juan died, Theresa always stayed in Chiron’s life even in adulthood. She truly LOVED him and his mother later was grateful for her being there.

    This is a document that should be shrink wrapped, placed in a bottle and preserved, for all time. Extremely human, empathetic, and beautiful. This cast and crew is the definition of finding love, passion, creativity and beauty in your work.

    You know the thing that gets me EVERY fucking time about this movie. It's not just some kind of story that somebody invented for the "views". All of the actors and directors and producers gave us such a huge and personal piece of themselves, which makes them so incredibly vulnerable but which also makes this movie one of the best I have ever seen. And as a very privileged white woman it may seem like i cannot at all relate to this movie but that is so not true. I have dealt with so many issues that Chiron's dealt with and am just hugely grateful that this film breaks so many barriers and finally gives the marginalised people some representation. Films like this make me realize that we are hugely progressing at least in this industry.

    Mahershala Ali... You beautiful, humble and loving human being! All of you are simply Amazing.The movie is really good and sooo universal. I think this is a right time to talk loudly about subjects that have been swept under the carpet for so long! So damn good cast at the same time great crew for each other. Greets from cold Poland and wish you all well. P.S. Miss Janelle Monáe is flawless as always !!!

    as a white straight female i never thought i could identify myself with black gay male but as weird as it sound i see so much of myself in Chirone i guess that proves we human beings aren't that different after all and we shouldn't let other people , polititians and media tell us otherwise

    • @professorx5023
      @professorx5023 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      MsJilsephonie The beauty of Moonlight is it's not about race, gender, socioeconomic background, or sexuality; it's about being human. Everyone can see themselves in chiron(and other characters as well) at some point in the story. Like Berry always says "It's about you but it's not about you" and that's why I think it won Best Picture.

    Though "down low" is a topic that has been discussed within communities for years.....a lot of time swath in shame and judgment. Same sex interaction came very natural for me. Include the fact that I grew up in a devout Catholic household, I was confronted with a loud "NO" from so called society, but, a "yes" from the magic and excitement that the two participants experienced. Hyper masculinity also complicates so much because of what so called "society" accepts. I make no apologies because it was as natural for me as heterosexuality may be for others.

    When I watched the film I thought it was beautifully made but I was confused at the end. As days went on I continued to think about this movie. The end was supposed to make you fill in the blanks. What do you think happened to Chiron and Kevin? So amazing. best movie I've seen in a long time

      @lecuyerdooley1084 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the end does fill in the blanks, at least the blanks the film creates before the third act. Chiron had let society turn him into a cold, fairly unfeeling man who behaved and looked the part of a "man." But he called himself "Black," an affectionate nickname Kevin had given him a dozen years earlier, which suggests that even though he had changed his exterior, his interior was still holding on to the possibility of that affection with Kevin. Then, his mother opens up to him, apologizing for all the pain and hurt she caused him, and we see his emotions are still there, that he still has some "softness" in him. When he was a little boy, Juan told him that at some point, he would have to decide who he is ... and when he hits the highway to see Kevin, he's making a deliberate choice to reconnect with a part of himself he had repressed. The ending shows him making choice after choice to be Chiron again, to not care about being "hard", to open up to Kevin, to be vulnerable, to acknowledge who he really is and be comfortable in it.

    I consider myself fairly liberal growing up as a "weekend hippie of color in a white upper class environment". I have/have tried a variety of different mind altering drugs, however, I returned and consider myself a marijuana user, with a very low tolerance. But one day, my liberalism was truly challenged when a friend of mine pulled out a crack pipe. Initially, I was intrigued when first told that it's like orgasming all over myself, HOWEVER, with a huge warning of instant addiction that frightened me. Cocaine came with a similar warning but my limited experiences with Coke has been mostly positive, but, with a take it or leave it end result. Luckily, "leave it" prevailed. Still, when my friend pulled out that crack pipe, I immediately drew a hardline "NO, NOT HERE". I soon learn my friend was indeed addicted even stealing $700 from my wallet. Crack is one drug, even more than heroin, that I just cannot condone.
