What was "sad" was that Charles and Diana did not get to know each other before announcing their engagement! It wasn't fair to push that marriage -- Not to Charles and certainly not to Diana !!!!
There is nothing sad about an airheaded, self-centered, gold-digging 304 getting divorced. What is sad is the billions of black/brown people who died under British oppression.
they were pushed together to stop Charles marrying Camilla who, at the time was already divorced and it would look bad. The Queen sent Charles away on state trips and Camilla's family arranged her wedding. So of course Charles instead had phone sex with her, which the Queen (and the press) found out about and published in the papers. When Diana's "accident" happened and Charles asked the Queen to marry Camilla, he implied he needed Camilla to make being the King in the future bearable.
Not that far back-His great great grandfather Edward VII. Actually, marrying for position and taking lovers was quite common in the aristocracy for generations. Charles probably expected that Diana understood the game,
@bdavenport9404. Well said! 😅. I think Diana was in love with her upcoming new life but not so much with Charles. This Diana-worship that some women have is very naive. They probably need to find better role models...
Why did Diana marry Charles? I doubt it was for duty or for LOVE... Diana just wanted a title and castles and balcony appearances and clothes and jewelry and vacations and notoriety and prestige and financial stability and handbags and respect and admiration and press coverage and should I go on? Diana wouldn't have looked at Charles twice if he was a butcher or a baker or a candle stick maker. Diana's, mother warned her about getting into the royal family but as usual Diana, couldn't be reasoned with.
And then he couldn't stick by his duty. Even if she became unbearable, replacing her with a woman already married to another man brought even more complications.
Modern girls in the Royal Family would not put up with what happened to Diana. The two Granmothers - his and hers were best friends and wanted the marriage to go ahead because girls in their youth just didn’t do very much other than get married and keep the line going and the Spencer’s are culpable here to an extent because Diana’s sister Sarah had gone out with Prince Charles for over a year but she didn’t want the royal restrictions. It leaves us wondering that there seems to be no evidence that Sarah would in any way dissuade Diana from marrying. Diana was infatuated with the then Prince Charles and kept a scrapbook of him. When Diana felt trapped, she phoned home and asked if she could come back and the response was ‘no! Stay in London!. Why didn’t Sarah tell Diana to go out and have some fun .. You are only 19? The grandmothers wanted great grandchildren and Prince Charles was being nagged into marriage. Many things changed post Diana’s death. Prince Charles told the newspapers that they have to ask before they take a photo of the princes unless they are with him. Queen Elizabeth opened up the monarchy and that is how we got Sophie and Catherine and she who must be obeyed. Camilla wasn’t good enough to marry into the monarchy because she had a past as most of us do in some way. If they had been allowed to marry Camilla, then all the pain that subsequently occurred would not have happened and Prince Charles would have been happier and above all honest.
I must say the monarchy would be different had Charles been allowed to marry Camilla in the first place. I feel they’d have rather petulant and horse faced children (no dig at Camilla just if their children got the worst of their combined features ) Who did not have as much grasp of people in the real world as Harry and William do, thanks to Diana allowing them to see something in the world besides balls, tea parties, and ski resorts.

It has been said that, back when they were all young and single, Charles had proposed to Camilla, who refused him because she did not want to live in a goldfish bowl. The story goes that he had to return to his duties in the Royal Navy and that, before he could get leave again, she’d married Parker-Bowles. This is partly why nobles shouldn't marry commoners, particularly those who've made ladies of the night out of themselves. Other nobles are already accustomed to power, wealth, prestige, and the duties inherent therein; it isn't a fantacy, it is either a privilege or a gilded cage. Furthermore, noble women are acutely aware of the importance of purity and how much attentions theirs (or lack thereof) will be given by commoner and nobleman alike, and they're generally closer to their respective church, so they're obliged to remain purer as both example to their people and leverage point for future noble unions to strengthen their realm. Diana had _NONE_ of that; she belonged to the streets, was Marilyn in the sheets, and _wanted_ to be royal without comprehending the weight of the Crown. Likewise, I condemn Charles, he should have known better and clearly wasn't thinking with the head atop his shoulders.
Her mother had an affair with a married man when her marriage broke down, Diana unwisely followed in her mother's footsteps by having affairs instead of being tough like Catherine of Aragon.
I agree. Charles was/is not a “broke -“ bumkin. In the future I certainly hope that women who are considered for marriage INto the BRF LEARN FROM WHAT HAPPENED WITH DIANA.
I even recall once, after their divorce, Diana arrived for a public event being chauffeured there in a Jaguar (!) The BRF had/has infinitely more luxurious cars than any Jaguar.

Arranged marriages were the norm in the British Royal Family till the last century.
A significant age difference, no interests in common, another woman who is too close to the groom. What could possibly go wrong?
At least the pen worked THAT time!! lol
It’s weird that the prime minister had to waste time with this nonsense.
The future Charles III seemed to think that he could conduct himself as if it were the 17th century and he were Charles II.

camilla is the mother, he never had, and a lover in one
We know, you say that in every post like it's some profound revelation.
Were you on intimate terms with the royal household, then?
Or it’s just that Charles had mommy issues and clinged to Camilla cuz she looked older than him and kept in his shadow cuz she was a mistress
