From watching a bunch of these videos and reading the many comments on this error code on these washers, I've come to think that the problem is more often related to connectivity issues to the thermistor, rather than the actual probe failing. I think that due to repetitive vibrations that occur when the drum spins and agitates, the connections to the this sensor become intermittent, and in some cases, break altogether. It's very important to secure the wire harness using wire-ties, and to inspect the thermistor's wire harness connector by opening it up and looking at the terminals inside. They may have vibrated loose, backed themselves out of the body of the connector, or broken off entirely inside, depending on how bad and how long the washer has been punishing the connector. Another thing I'm wondering based on the comments on other videos is if there could be a build up of hair/lint/etc in the area around the heating element and thermister? I don't know if anyone has looked into that, but it makes sense that if there is too much debris in there that the sensor/element would not work as designed. if you checked your old thermistor's resistance reading with an ohm meter? I checked mine and it reads @ 55k ohms at room temp (cold basement), and then when I heat it up to body temp, it steadily goes down in resistance to about 26k ohms. If it was bad, I would expect that the reading would show either a direct short (0 ohms) or read open (or extremely high resistance) -or at least be erratic in it's ohmic reading. I did find and remove some calcium/mineral scale build-up on half of the tip of the probe. I put my machine back together with the original thermistor and it's been running for a week of solid running all types of loads and settings without erroring out. So far, so good. If it fails again, I'm going to look into cleaning out the cavities where the thermistor and element are mounted. If anyone has already done this, please add on to this reply.

On some models, there's a foot and a half by foot and a half access hole under the washer (WM0642HW)! Might want to look under the washer before concluding to take stuff apart. That made the thermistor replacement trivial. A replacement thermistor was only $10.
I figured out the same thing and did that with mine. So much easier. The only drawback is you can't look into the heating element cavity to see if there is anything in the causing a problem. I have the te error and replaced the entire element with the thermistor attached and I am still getting the te error. I am just searching to see what I can do next. I checked the connections that I could see and none of the wires are broken so it's getting close to calling the repair guy.
I found the connector only needed to be pulled in and out a dozen times to clean the contacts and get it working again. There was no obvious corrosion on either, probe still measured 60K. Dampness and detergent mist are a bad combination over long periods of time. I've pulled this old machine apart many times, on my third pump replacement, my laptop died which had the manual on it so needed video to know what code was. Control panel does not need to be disconnected. Just remove cable clips and set it on top. Sensor can be accesed from bottom hole. Mine has attached bottom drawer and in my space just easier to remove front. Don't disconnect that electrically either. That way I can run machine in a test to verify it works before assembling it.
Thanks for watching & sharing this, we really appreciate it. Learning what others have experienced is always helpful. Many more helpful videos to come. 😎👍
There is no water in our machine, te code came on between cycles. Tried unplugging for several hours and the code is still showing. Ours is a different model of LG
Ughhhh! They replaced thermistor, pump and panel ( they say) I cannot wash towels throws tE between Rinse and Spin. I’ve reset by unplugging, but just does it again. It’s seems that heavy items are the cause but why ?
Thanks for watching & that’s no fun. Sounds like you have replaced the common parts that lead to these symptoms. The next part would be the Heating element. Below is a link to our video showing replacement of element. th-cam.com/video/0cCKDDlokH8/w-d-xo.html 😎👍🔧🔩
I thank you for the videos but none of them worked. Once I hit the power button on mine, within 4 seconds the te code starts blinking. I have already drained it and replaced the heating element with the thermistor attached and it's still not working. LG had me do the spin only fix and that didn't work.
Thanks for the follow up? Both Heating Element and Thermistor are brand new correct? If so, we recommend performing a system reset. @@NYCBugkiller Thanks for the follow up, reset procedure from here and if that doesn’t help, it’s likely an issues with control board…that’s if all new parts are installed and properly connected to their respective electrical connections. 👍
Can't find one single video about the "tE' error for the LG DISHwasher. Only videos for the CLOTHESwashing machine. Does anyone know how to change the thermistor on the DISHwasher??????
hey can i disconnect the heater in my lg washer and leave it disconnected as i dont want the washer to heat any water ever as the electric is to expensive in my state.. would the washer still function with the heater disconnected thankyou in advance
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. We recommend unplugging your machine for a minimum of five minutes which will allow your system to perform a full reset. After plugging machine back in and running a cycle, if you continue to experience the tE fault, it may be time to replace your heating element. Keep us posted on your project.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders It wont even let me run any cycle. I unplug it, plug it back in, I can start a cycle but within 15 seconds of being plugged back in and on, the tE code comes back on.
@@nicoleheck7038 Thanks for the update, try running a cycle on COLD setting only. This will allow the machine to perform a cycle without the heating element turning on & warming the water. If you can run a COLD cycle, the heating element needs to be replaced. 😎👍
I changed my heating element. I still have the TE code and I can turn the machine on but it will not give me the ability to choose any wash cycle or spin cycle just goes into beeping. I have replaced the control board and display board and the sensor. I think I have covered replacing about everything. I have no more ideas on what could be wrong.

Did you fix it?.... I changed my TE element and happened the same, then I was guessing maybe the control board was the problem or some loose wire... ... but now with the new TE piece the TE error was still showing. I found out the bottom of the washer had fallen to the heating element and that was making the error to show up.... I believe it's only like 1/3 inch or less.. I hold the black spring up on the right side and that was it.... the spring that holds the washer was a little loose and the washer some how was making show this error. Now I have no idea how to change the spring....
