Oh I’ve just discovered this show and binged it all, it’s so wonderful and hilarious - my first shock was seeing that she did not win any awards, easily one of the best tv Moms of all time, so horrible to hear what she went through - such a fantastic actress 😢
They were all jealous of her. Let’s be honest. But she earned her spit and was good at her job. She is a great communicator. No one knows all of the evils that reside in Hollywood. As much as I don’t like the red table, I really am glad she is able to bounce back and tell her story.
The reality is that she was starring in a comedic undertaking reflecting the struggles and highlights of immigration and assimilation, but not only was it racist, and aggressively charged, she was exploited for her comedic accessibility.
Some of the comments here are disgusting. I'm glad Constance Wu's able to speak up about what she went through. Plus to those saying to out the harasser, I get it but remember this is Wu's decision, and hell maybe she isn't able to name them due to the power they hold. There are a ton of reasons why someone may choose not to clarify but we shouldn't make others feel uncomfortable in doing so. When it was announced that the show was renewed, she got on twitter and vocalized how upset she was. She was called ungrateful because this was the first time in 20 years an Asian American family was depicted on prime time tv. The public had no idea that she was sexually harassed and assaulted by one of the producers of the show and for the show to be renew would mean she would face additional harassment. If she decided not to return then the show could face possible cancellation, in turn, diminishing the presence of Asian American visibility on mainstream television. She wasn’t ungrateful for the opportunity but, rather traumatized by the abuse that she face on set.

Like everyone else, I thought she was ungrateful complaining about a show that made her famous , and at the time she was fresh of the success from crazy rich asians . Everyone talked how she was being a greedy and not thinking of her co-stars who need a job . But i did feel bad when she talked about bout the online harrassment due to this incident, she did say she was being human and dont want to hide who she was . And also apologized to her co-stars for what she said and that her comment wasn't directed towards them. But now it makes sense , she was fed up having to work in an environment like this but couldn't coz she would be out of a job . Especially in hollywood where u never have a steady flow of income .
