When I came home from Iraq, I spent 17 months in Montana building a small 12x16 cabin by myself, and my dog. I can't tell you the amount of s**t I worked out in my mind while I was alone up there. I had an old neighbor about a mile away that came to visit me once or twice a week. What started as a 10-15-minute talk eventually ended up as a whole day of us sitting on the porch, talking and drinking coffee. I learned that he had moved up there after Vietnam, and he lived out of his truck for two years while he built his (larger than mine) cabin. He lived up there until last year when I went to visit and found out he had passed away in his cabin. He had no family to leave it to, so I said my goodbyes and left a shot on the porch in his honor. It's amazing the people God puts in our lives when we need it most. I'm crying right now writing this because without this man, I never would have survived. I would have survived the physical aspect of my build, but the mental aspect of my past was so heavy, so overbearing, that I don't think I would have survived. Toward the end of my build my best friend showed up and spent almost a month with me. He's the reason why I came out of the woods. I subsequently found my wife, had three daughters, started and sold a business, and now that they are all past high school and into college, my wife and I are heading back into the woods in May. Building a cabin is good for the soul, the body, and the mind. Thank you for sharing this journey you guys went on. The brothers beside you brought back some serious emotions I now know how to handle. Thank you. God bless.
I'm reading this and it just gave me an idea. Most people will say pray god, believe in god and all that sh*t. But we all know that doesn't work. It might help a little, but it's not the solution. The solution might be..... you and yor wife. Here's my idea: Why not creating a foundation to help veterans with PTSd and other people dealing with stress and sh*t to buy a little piece of land and teach them how to build a cabin? You could have a location where to teach people and also have people helping to find affordable land. You could also start a chain. Like having a group of 5 people helping each to build their cabins. Then a second group and so on. This way, not only you'd be perpetuating what you and your friend had, honor his memory, help lots of people, and certainly preventing death...
What a sad & ultimately a beautiful story. I'm so happy that your life went in a positive direction. Here in the U.K. it's impossible to do as you did. God bless & keep you & your family. M.F.McCorriston U.K. 🍀🇮🇪🏴🙏🏴🇮🇪🍀
This will eventually get millions of views here, and the profits of those views will be worth an incredible amount, compared to what the history Channel will do to them. The history Channel will ruin the whole thing for a few thousand views.
@@ragingpatriot772I feel your pain. I was able to get help through the VA. If you’re ready I’d highly recommend it. I feel like a different person and I never thought that would be possible.
The nod to Mr Proenneke was fantastic. For someone who has watched that documentary as many times as I have, the narration was spot on. Well done gents.
This is the first time im writing a comment of all of the hunderts of bushcraft Videos i saw in the Past years. Your Videos really helped me going through some Hard times and watching you guys just really relaxed me. Its beautiful to see your friendship, your Humor and the fun whilst building your own cabin. Please keep up with the Videos. Thank you and wish you all a happy life❤
Deadmen is your channel but you’re actually LIVING. Your camaraderie is awesome. I’m sure things happen off camera but the video is proof of your bond of brotherhood. I would have never tried what you’ve accomplished but my 52 year old self has really enjoyed watching you. Thank you so much for sharing!
Brilliant film, very entertaining. I almost cried as you raised the flags on your renovated cabin. My wife and I are 70 years old now but we began homesteading 25 years ago on our 12.75 acres in Mississippi. We built our own buildings, fences and house with our own hands. We have been married for 51 years, almost 52 years actually. We are best friends and companions. Neither of us has had an employer since we bought our place. We trusted GOD to provide all our needs and HE has done that abundantly. We live this everyday albeit in luxury compared to you guys. Now let's see you guys live there full time for the rest of your lives. That would be a real challenge for sure! Guy in Columbia Mississippi
I don’t get how I’ve just found this channel today. this is what I like to see. Just some men having fun and building a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Keep up the good work 💪🏽🍻
Out of all the bushcraft channels I've watched none can complete, yall are my new favorite and most likely will be forever. I wish yall the best of luck, keep up the amazing work. This is how life should be

You guys are so funny and awesome. It's so heartwarming to see the deep brotherhood and friendship you share. The world needs more people like you a 100 times over.
The music gets to me. Reminds me of spending time with my buddies back in the day. My son has 3 good friends. They all homeschooled together. There’s a bond there. One is married, one has a band, one works at a company and my son plays soccer and does Realistate, photography and works with a pro soccer team. But, they some how have found away to come together every now and then to do a project or go away somewhere to be together. I really hope you four will forever be close. Because I really miss it. Loving you vlogs
You guys are my favorite thing on TH-cam right now. I hope this does well so you can keep making videos like this. The energy and chemistry y’all have is really entertaining and I’d love to see a deck, a winter series, a dock for fishing, a whole fort or a wall around your little compound. It’s really awesome. Keep up the good work

Hey just wanted you to know that you guys seriously impressed me with this series of videos. Great craftsmanship and details on your builds. So stoked that Dick Proenneke is still motivating folks to build in the bush. Having lifelong friends from the Military involved is the icing on the cake. Keep LIVIN.
