AMD's new naming convention is going to take a guide book in order to decipher it. Most people won't know what the heck they are buying. Intel isn't much better with theirs.
@@dfgatorfanAt least ASUS have a pretty clear product range designation. The worst design of the 2024 duo is that the SSD is inaccessible from the small cover on the back. The bottom screen must be removed which is extremely difficult to do without cracking it; and the display ribbon cable is extremely difficult to re-insert, and just forget about removing the power connector which has a metal clip that is also easy to damage. Mine flung off and shorted the motherboard. Mine got into a blue-screen "SDD inaccessible" loop after an update one day and even a factory reset or BIOS update could not fix it, nor altering BIOS settings, however, the SSD was accessible in a recovery prompt, go figure. I even removed bit locker and tried several workarounds from ASUS. All the well-known boot recovery tricks could not correct this either (dism/sfc/bootrec/etc). I basically broke the laptop trying to get the SSD out to remove classified client data before sending it into repair. $1700 mistake because of a terrible design. Beware of the same issue for the 2025 design.
The battery connector on my asus g14 (2021) shorted my first motherboard and battery. It flung out of its socket, went on the motherboard, and shorted the battery. Luckily, it was covered by warranty
Is there no longer a Zenbook Pro line? The premium body and oled with a dedicated gpu was a nice spot for me. The ROG line has this but the Zenbook Pro was nice to avoid the gamer RGB aesthetic. A zenbook pro 14 with the Strix halo chip would be interesting as well.
Got my wifey Z S 14 258V notebook for USD1,500, she is happy as is into photo editing and that OLED is perfect, plus light to carry. @@davitdavid7165 I'd argue a laptop with 7945HX and 4090 with a cost of several thousand bucks should not wake up to completely black screen 50% of the time 1.5 years after release and tons of patches. This is atrocious and unheard of.
Hey Josh, you forgot to say that the X Elite sucks and most TH-camrs recommending it were sponsored by Qualcomm. I know getting sponsored by Asus does not affect your judgement. You are an honest person and everyone else is not.
It is kind of confusing to see snapdragon made a much lower end chip than X plus considering x plus chip already had difficulty on video playback with high resolution. I wondered the performance of the integrated graphics on the X chip, and how low of a price this computer can be at.

Arrow Lake mobile doesn't have the much faster Battlemage graphics that Lunar Lake does, instead it uses a slightly updated 'Alchemist+' architecture, which is essentially unchanged iirc from regular Alchemist, save for the inclusion of XMX units.

I hope AMD can try to mitigate their supply issues with Zen 5 now launched. AMD has always had issues with supply for their mobile processors, which is why Intel still vastly outsells them despite great and competitive offerings.
Not sure if thats even the case these days. All my local electronic stores have a bunch of AMD laptops in stock, right in the store for everyone to grab. I rarely see anyone even look at them. People just buy the intel stuff.
Would love to see a new revision of the ASUS Zenbook DUO with a AMD AI 9 HX 370. Great device but they should never have put the Intel Ultra 9 185H in it
Man why did they have to gimp the AMD version of the Zenbook 14 with the lower power chip and the lower spec display. I hope they offer a variant with the better specs but it sounds like they want you to go Intel for that - which might be fine, but I was really hoping for some AMD laptops with the 32 or 40 core iGPU.
