The TO made no difference, the raiders ran the ball anyways to run clock down and either kick a fg or punt.
This is one of the best regular season finale I’ve ever witnessed
I'm only 24, mind you, but this is the best regular season game I think I've ever seen. The whole Big Ben tie in made it even better.

This wasn't the reason Staley got fired. The Chargers got embarrassed on national TV against a interim head coach a rookie QB. Spanos knew either he fired Staley or he'd lose the fans. Firing Telesco was just a bonus.

As a Steelers fan, I was in absolute disbelief watching this game. The odds felt so long for this to happen, and yet here we are reminiscing on this absolutely legendary game.

I loved how from about 4:30pm eastern untill about 11pm eastern, we all joked that the Steelers could miss the playoffs with a Charger/Raiders tie. I mean tie are so rare it's basically a non factor. Steelers are basically already in the playoffs.........and then for about 50 magical and insane minutes it stopped being a joke and became very very real. Oh God it could actually happen. Wasn't the meme ending we hoped for but entertaining none the less

I watched this game with my dad. We watched this game just after losing my mother and his longtime wife of 40 years. Being able to watch these players play this game had so many memories of growing up and watching football with my dad. My favorite sport of all time.
As for the game. I just about pulled my hair out with all the play calls that were made in this game. My goodness… the decisions I would not have made… but the miraculous plays also were awesome to watch. I will have this memory for the rest of my life.

This was no joke one of the greatest performances I’ve seen from a quarterback. Chargers lost, but Herbert did everything humanly possible to send them to the postseason.

I have been a loyal, hardcore Chargers fan since 1968, l thought i had seen it all in over 50+ years with my Chargers. This Raiders vs. Chargers game showed me how much i love the game of football, how much each player gave of themselves to find a way to win. Until this game, I despised anything to do with the Raiders. Now, the respect i have for the Raiders will remain with me. I am damn proud of my Chargers like never before. Justin Herbert will have many more accomplishments he will achieve, he is a force to be reckoned with for many years. I am really glad he is a Charger, he will be the leader this team has needed for a very long time. I hope i will see my Chargers win a SB sooner rather than later.

What’s with the criticism on the timeout? Teams do that all the time on key plays.

The criticism is because at the point when the chargers took that timeout, the raiders were at the very edge of field goal range. Raiders weren't in any hurry to get closer, I think they were good with a tie at that point. Calling the timeout stopped the clock and forced the raiders to run a play which put them in field goal range for the winner. If they don't take a timeout raiders run out the clock and both teams head to the playoffs.
As a chargers fan i can admit one thing. EVERY Primtime game next year BETTER be AFC west. No other division even comes close to having all 4 teams being able to make the playoffs.
Any one of those teams in any other division is going to win it.

As a raiders fan I remember screaming JUST TAKE THE TIE!!! It was so unlikely for us to even be in that position in the first place I just wanted the game to be over. Probably my favorite game of all time.

This would have been Game of the Decade/Century/ of All Time if it actually ended in a legit, not intentional tie because of the odds, how the game needed to be a tie for both teams to go and how the game actually played out, especially with all the ways the Game wasn’t supposed to be played (going on 4th down, Chargers down big in the 4th, Chargers needed two scores in less than 5 mins, Chargers getting 5/6? 4th down conversions, Chargers get a 0:00 left on the clock TD and it went to overtime with both teams scoring at least once). Just INSANE!!

What a game, Mad Maxx Crospy playing like an immortal, Hunter "the accountant" Renfrow stealing touchdowns, Josh Jacobs playing through pain and getting it done when we needed him the most, Danny "ice man" Carlson putting the nail in the coffin. Herbert played lights out but there was no stopping the magic that was happening on this team.

Game of the year, no doubt. I didn't particularly like the result, but the game itself was legendary! Herbert deserved that playoff spot - and, after watching Raiders vs Bengals, I'm even more convinced of it. Anyway, one of the best games ever.

@@randyposs6281 Nah we were pretty much out of FG range (although Carlson probably had the leg for it.). The players on both teams seemed content in taking a tie, the goal wasn’t necessarily win either, it was to make the playoffs. Chargers don’t call a time out the raiders run the ball and time expires wether or not we get a first down. Staley wanted to win, instead of looking toward the playoffs.
@@randyposs6281 Nah the Raiders eyes were on the playoffs. We were playing to get into the playoffs and our team was content with running the clock out as were the chargers players. Staley seen we weren’t in field goal range and thought to himself that he could get the ball back and try and win, when the goal was to make it to the playoffs and the Raiders responded by eliminating them from the playoffs all together.

I do not think any Hc in that situation calls a timeout either. What was the point of that timeout? He says so he could get his right personnel in the game, except that’s debunked because he had a whole play clock to get that taken care of. Why risk losing the game in order to win a game when all you needed was a tie to get into the playoffs and the stars aligned perfectly for that to happen.
The Raiders used to be the winningest TEAM in All of Professional Sports with a win percentage of about 75%. They used to take qualudes (not exactly performance enhancing) before each game and used to "wake up" b the 4th quarter and come from behind and win for about three (3) decades all of which I witnessed growing up (see Raiders vs Dolphins go 6 quarters in playoffs in the late 1970's). It was like watching the Raiders of old when watching this fantastical game!

Hell yeah it was! As a raider fan watching this game was crazy, chargers are a great team and very proud to go against them! Both teams were great! What a way to end the regular season.

As a raider fan, I’m happy they made the playoffs, but wouldn’t be mad had they lose this game. This team went through so much that they did the impossible and made it to the playoffs. At 6-7 and gettin destroyed by the chiefs, everybody counted them out and hell I did also. To see the team actually keep it together, win 4 in a row, and get in the playoffs just amazes me.

I am a Raider fan and that was a great game. One of the best in their history! I will say I now have a deep respect for QB Herbert of the Chargers...Wow he almost beat us. He definitely will be a great QB to contend with. Let's go Raiders, work is not done yet!!!

I listened to the last 6 minutes; and overtime, of this game, on my transistor radio. Thought it was the greatest playoff contention game ever. Plus, Roethlisberger gets one more day in the Sun, due to outcome. Had me on the edge of my seat. 2pt conversion b4 OT for the Win?

One of the best games in NFL history. I'm a Chiefs fan and would loved to have seen both the Raiders and Chargers make the playoffs. That's how good the AFC West is this season. Mr. Staley needs to rethink his all-in, all the time strategy imo. Makes for an entertaining game, though. Herbert is a beast at QB. Carr is damn good too. Congrats to Raider Nation, you've endured more than any fan base should have to deal with in a single season. All this talk about the timeout with 38sec left in OT is a nothing burger. I don't think it changed a damn thing. Jacobs run after that timeout changed EVERYTHING, even though I think they try the FG even if he gets stuff at the LOS. I like both coaches in this game. Very different but I get where they're coming from. I hope the Raiders understand what they have and don't go shopping for the next glamour hire. Good luck Raiders. Hope to see you again soon.

I don't think that timeout is a nothing burger. I'm fairly certain the Raiders were complacent with a tie until that happened. Then it scared them out of trusting the Chargers if they were to get the ball back with some time left... It was a mind-game, and I understand why LA called it... But it was a bad decision. Hindsight is 20/20.
I think that time-out is the reason the Raiders kicked the field goal. Raiders were like... "nah let's go to Cincinnati... we'll let KC end Big Ben's days"

Carr lacks the IQ, he’s smart but he isn’t that kind of smart. I’m a Raider fan and I’ve back Carr up last few years, except for last year and this year.

Forget game of the year, this may be the greatest game of all time. It’s definitely a top 5 ever played. I’ve personally never watched a more exciting and unbelievable game in 25 years of watching NFL football.

This game was exciting from start to finish, full of unbelievable things AND. It had huge implications for the playoff picture. PLUS it almost came down to the crazy tie that would have gotten both of them in. You have to take into account everything when judging a game. You probably think because it wasn’t the super bowl or the playoffs it shouldn’t qualify, but that make you the idiot. It’s right up there with the double OT Dolphins vs Chargers playoff game of 82 or the Elway drive game vs Cleveland, but I wasn’t alive to watch those.

I’m a charger fan . I’m glad we made it to the postseason. Just revisiting this . And it’s exactly how I remembered. Every dam play for Herbert on this was him fighting against the world . No separation form the recievers. Tight windows. Running for his life. And just dotting it up. No reason we should’ve lost this game

This had to be one of the best games I've ever seen. Two young quarterbacks and two good teams, obviously one QB much younger than the other. There are a LOT of good YOUNG guys coming up, and I'm glad to see that.
I think this was definitely one of the best games to end any season, that one and the niner game was tied in my opinion, I am biasedly a niner fan so I think both teams did a great job at saving their seasons

As a Raiders fan who has waited years for them to prove they are playoff ready, I have to say I was impressed with the last 5 minutes of regulation, and the OT was the type of football I've missed since 2002. LA is no joke, and the Raiders overcame. So happy right now.

Herbert is one hell of a QB. Mad respect as a Raiders fan. I’ll say this. He plays for the Chargers. Somehow, someway they will let him down. They let Drew Brees go and couldn’t not do anything with Phillip Rivers who one would argue was great. You hate to see a great talent go to waste. Hopefully I don’t regret my words but I’ve seen the Chargers do very Charger things for to long.

Im hoping there will be more afc west games like this for the foreseeable future. As a Raider fan im pumped to see the competition between all these teams as they have a lot of talent that will hopefully give is this. I think the difference maker will be the coaching. Denver and Las Vegas have new coaches while Chargers have a seemingly decent coach with Staley and Chiefs having arguably (maybe not winable) the second greatest active coach with Andy Reid. I was hoping when Philadelphia let him go that the Raiders had went for him. McDaniels has his hands full when it comes to game time. But im holding out hope he truly has learned from his failures and will bring a winning culture back to the Silver and Black. Good luck next year to your teams, just not against the Raiders lol :)!

This game helps me a lot in a bittersweet day. I watched during a breakup in Belgium in a really early morning. I started watching the game before the last discussion and I ended watching in the train station with all my bags. One of the few times in life that Raiders gave me a good and exciting moment.
