Claude just casually calling out my own struggles with the psychology of being disabled while explaining the regency project was not what I was expecting today, but I definitely needed to hear, as I sit here staring at my abandoned sewing, crochet, and writing projects awaiting a lumbar puncture in two days to relieve pressure on my brain. I didn't even identify feeling like I need to "catch up" on the two months I've lost to managing my chronic illness during this spell until Claude mentioned it.

To keep the busk where you want it, historically it was done one of two ways:
    1. Sew a little pocket, about 4 cm deep, at the top of the busk slot - the top of the busk fits into it and keeps it from poking out the top.
    2. Drill a hole at either the top or bottom of the busk, sew a tie on the inside of the stays to match where the hole is, thread one end of the tie through the hole and tie it.
I've found using the hole/tie method made it difficult to remove the busk if it hasn't been removed in awhile - the knot gets too tight. Then it's easier to just cut the ties, unpick where it was sewn in, and sew in another. But it was a pain to put a hole in the busk.
The pocket method was easier to do and makes it easier to remove the busk but it was also easier for the busk to come loose although that was rare.

Ooh that's an excellent suggestion! I think I'll do the pocket method. I don't wear these stays often enough for it to be worth drilling a hole in the busk!

Thank you! I’ve watched much of the content in earlier times, but this long-form compilation was great for curling up with the cat and relaxing for a lengthy period ❤

I use muslin quite a bit and I also hand sew - hopefully my sewing machine will be repaired at some stage, I've been waiting 3 years so far so not holding my breath - and I've found that french seams are the best solution. What I do is a normal french seam and I then sew straight stitch down the centre of the inside seam to give it one more layer of 'strength' and so far I've found it works fine. Easily done on a machine for lightweight fabrics as well - I do the same with voile - and I find it gives me that little extra bit of security when I'm wearing a garment that the seam is less likely to fray out at the most inopportune moment possible - because they never do when it doesn't matter.

I felt it when everything was going wrong. I'm making a dress right now. And it was supposed to be easy. It's a mash up of 2 patterns I've made before. But i didn't walk my seams, so if course i didn't cut the right skirt size. For the bodice, the 'minor' changes i made to the bodice mean it's coming out big this time. Now i need to re-cut the front bodice piece but that means completely taking the bodice apart including the sleeves and the trim because it's princess seams. 😂 Maybe I'll be better about doing mock ups or fitting as i go in the future. 😉🤞

I don't know how I missed this series when you first posted. This was great to watch while hand-sewing a lining to a coat and binding to a dress (I'm at work waiting on emails).
    The embroidery is beautiful 🪡

If you're up for it I'd love a video or two on designing/making costumes for productions, the little bits you mention throughout are super interesting
Also I definitely struggle with the whole "my disability is restricting me right now so the second I'm able I'm going to make the most ambitious project I can" thing. I've gotten *better* at learning what I'm actually capable of but I'm definitely guilty of trying to climb mountains as soon as I feel a tiny bit more capable

Love all of these videos together! And it’s encouraging to me when I see an experienced sewist and costume make struggle with “nothing is going right”! Because some days it doesn’t, and it’s good to know that’s normal - if annoying! That dress is gorgeous! The decoration on the sleeves just staggered me. Beautiful!

Your finished outfit was breathtaking! You did a fabulous job and even had great modeling videos of the ensemble. That purple!! (gush) So fantastic. But I never heard if you did enter it in the contest and met the deadline.?

I hadn’t realised you also entered the FR competition for the first time in 2021! The outfit is stunning and I’m so glad you managed to finish all your “want to have” pieces in time. I’m wondering if you ever had the chance to wear it? I haven’t had an occasion to wear mine and am glad I made something more practical the next time.

Blessed with height? No. I'm barely 154cm. lol But thank you for this compilation. I'm new to the channel (and binging), so everything in one place is letting me see the whole process in one sitting, as I furiously knit socks for Christmas despite there being NO rush (it's early May). Utter madness that both my brother's birthday _and_ Christmas socks will be ready before his birthday... Wish my hands luck, once I'm done with these I'm going to give my hands a break and just concentrate on planning upcoming projects for a little bit.
