I love legacy characters and hate when things get redundant, by reducing them backwards. Prime example is Spiderman, I love the 90's cartoon, especially from the world building aspect. He was in college which allowed you to see him trying to maintain a job, keep tabs on his foes, save the world and try to keep a girlfriend. Any point of a episode could involve a college classmate bumping into Michael Morpheus, Craven the Hunter and Spider-man has to help (he could have even been in pursuit of said villainy when a classmate just happens to be nearby). Get back home after trying to deal with it, so he doesn't worry his Aunt May. Next day Job / college life, girlfriend issues, makes a discovery that will aid hi in catching yesterdays villain and suddenly SHIELD pops in to give Spiderman a warning about another thing etc... His life is constant and will continue to move on even if he dies. Meanwhile the high school reboots they love to make has de-aged Aunt May who has more interest in other things. Just so they can try to sell you on the idea that high schooler has the time to do everything. It had to have a plot convenience or the story fails already, that show is more episodic based and the world clearly lacks world building. The 90's cartoon doesn't need to have a excuse to give Spiderman, he is always on the go being a college kid and that would never trip any red flags. His world has *Weight* he regrets when he messes up tries to face his own inner demons, thinks about even quitting sometimes. But keeps coming back, you can't say that for the other shows. People have to be unafraid to let their characters age and mature. Become retired or even sideline characters to a new generation. I love every Young Justice season because it keeps showing the heroes moving up in their careers etc...
In original Batman, the suit was an instrument of fear. It frightened villains and concealed Bruce's trauma. In Batman Beyond, the suit was an instrument of growth. @@CaesarSonOfMars People watching the show after watching this video are going to be confused when they see that scene. The way a show works is that only certain amounts of the story's information is revealed to the viewer or reader at a time. Once the viewer knows the whole story, the old information is then seen in a new light. If you introduce someone to Star Wars by telling them that Darth Vader is Luke's father, then you've just ruined a big moment in the trilogy. I love this format from you guys, IGN. Give me more pop-culturally relevant, documentary-style content :)
It really would be cool if IGN acted as more of a platform for interesting video essays.
Yesss :)
@@NuttyMongrel Definitely!
Thank cinefix for this.
I like this mini doc. The way that warner is moving with hbo max, it would be dope to see them do something on that platform. Hol up a min. Why isn't this show and batman the animated series not on hbo max??????
I keep asking myself this
They're still both on DC universe unlimited untill the new year when DC unlimited becomes just a digital resource for the comics back catalogue
@@noaheast7600 not bad. Thanks for the info!
Terry's dad was never killed by the Jokers I haven't watched this show in over 10 years and I still remember it was his dad's employer who made it look like the Jokers
But new viewers don't learn that until a while in to the show. That makes it a spoiler.
Yup
@@Thalanox Ah yes spoiling a show that's 20 years old
@@CaesarSonOfMars People watching the show after watching this video are going to be confused when they see that scene.
Don't rob new viewers of big moments, and they'll enjoy the show more.
@@Thalanox 'awhile' is the 2nd episode? Lol
This show was essential to my childhood and development! I remember always feeling inadequate about everything and always struggled to see things through, but this show helped me to learn to deal with a lot of that.
Bro, these guys gave us Harley Quinn and Batman Beyond. Instantly legends.
bro...when kevin conroy laughed in that video call i instantly remembered a Batman TAS episode
The thing that Bruce Timm was forced to make this and it turned out to be really amazing means he is Kevin feige of DC
Him and Paul dini
Bruce Timm and Paul Dini were to the DC Animation Universe as Kevin Feige is to the MCU.
@@mrlogan-ut2te I wish they brought those two for the dceu
@@BruceWayne-ee6vb Some DCEU fans just can't let go of Zack Snyder unfortunately.
It wasn't just Bruce Timm but Paul Dini and a bunch of the writers too. If Bruce had the reigns you get weird stuff like that harley quinn movie
I remember when this premiered, I was so blown away by that opening sequence with the gun and then that kickass title sequence.
I knew then that we had something special
The classic nobody wanted but the one they needed.
RIGHT NOW!
@@christopherfleetwood5252 ???
"The Classic Nobody Expected" would be a better title.
Yeah the wording feels meanspirited
Yeah because it wouldn't have been a choice if no one wanted it, simply wrong.
absolutely
@@CamdenEllisor Well, it seemed like the only people that wanted the show before it was made were the network executives, since the production team seemed reluctant to make a show on the concept of "teenage Batman." For the audience and creatives behind the series, pretty much no one wanted the show (its announcement was not received well), but they made a bonafide classic and critical hit that has lasted for much longer than the run of the show.
HBO Max has been reviving Warner Bros cartoons, and giving us DC stuff. I want them to bring back Batman Beyond
Which DC cartoon hbo max revives?
@@devoncarter7222 DC Universe added a season of young justice and now all their shows are moving to hbomax
@@bigblue207 yh I know but it wasn't hbo max revives them it was DC universe
@@devoncarter7222 But it was HBO Max that has taken over DC Universe, so basically they have control
@@BeyondKnight yes they have control now but they didn't revive any DC cartoons yet tho🙂
Love me some Batman Beyond definitely my top 5 animated cartoon of all time
If there isn’t a Batman Beyond game soon I’m going to break my rule.
There is on ps1
Yeah and it was terrible
I loved that Arkham city gave us the costume to wear but we need a full game
@@chrischurch5404 If they ever decide to make a Batman Beyond game then i hope it will be a sequel to Arkham Knight set 30 or 40 years into the future and be able to play as the new Batman Terry McGinnis in a futuristic Gotham City. I don’t understand why it hasn’t happened yet since the Batman Beyond animated series was so popular back in the early 2000’s and even today it still is.

“Never did I realize I wanted this until I saw it.” Best Description for this Series.
I was 9 years old when it aired. batman beyond has always stuck with me more so than any others flim/adaptation of batman. Even now into my 30's I still look back at it and smile.
The one time that the corporate chairs actually had a great idea even though nobody else thought so.
To be fair, what the corporate chairs had in mind would probably have been super lame. It took Timm and his team to take that idea and make it awesome.
Batman beyond has such an amazing atmosphere I love that show
Batman beyond movie with micheal keaton please
Yes I thinking about it the other day
Yes!!
Robert Pattinson would have made a better terry than Bruce
seeing the team and some voice actors talk about this project bring back memories also to have new people interested but what really have me is the passion and effort they did in my opinion
I fell in love with this series as a kid and watched it over the years like it’s still brand new. It’s Still very Timeless to me. Nothing out there like this show. 🙏🏽💚
I own the entire Batman: The Animated Series, and Batman Beyond on DVD.
And watch them often.

Seth Macfarlane said it first: Buffy was not popular, Entertainment Weekly said it was popular
If Keaton doesn’t play old Bruce in a movie, we riot!
It will be amazing with Keaton as an old Bruce being a mentor for Terry. I would go to see the movie and also buy the 4K movie on disc when it's released.
How much more support do you need you damn bIind WB ? (been years of seeing people on Twitter or YT comments saying that we want a Batman Beyond movie or video game.. instead they just keep playing safe with Bruce as Batman).
Who would you cast for Terry?
@@Pl4sma69 Hmmm, Timothy Chalamet and Joe Keery come to mind, or an unknown talent.
I would want to see somebody new to play Terry. Or maybe an up and coming young star that has the acting chops to play Terry just like his animated counterpart.
Why not Conroy himself?
One of the best animated intros of all time! 🦇
"Shway!" It's awesome to dive into how unique and world expanding this crime fighting continuation came to be. Stay safe everyone!
When I was a kid, "shway" sounded so dumb.
Now we've got "yeet" and "stan"

This was my first exposure to the Bat Man IP as a kid. Let’s just say Batman was never the same for me since I always seen Terry as the true MC.
Batman Beyond was stellar I don't care what anyone says
Robert Pattinson lowkey wouldve been a dope Batman beyond/Terry
Idk he looks a little old to play a teenager
@@youngking1276 agreed
Hes to old to play a teen xolo maridueña would be a better batman hes got dark hair a tan it would be better
In his Twilight days maybe
Darwyn had such a awesome art style. It was simple yet if you are an artist you know it’s complicated.
One of my favorite shows. Used to watch it all the time as a young kid with my grand parents and still watch it from time to time to stay close to them in a sense
i got the complete series and i liked watching it as a kid it
Same. I actually wish they could make new episodes
Dude same..
Same and love the return of the joker movie
Loves this show, my brothers and I would watch it every day and both of them were stoked when I told them that I had bought the box set
My childhood, I absolutely loved Batman Beyond. A great series, worthy successor of The Animated Series but only wish it could have been longer!
Indeed. The "did you see that" at the end of the "Epilogue" episode removed all doubt
This show was my ritual every morning and I just rewatched it again a few months ago and I’m 22 shows still fire
In india, Aired on CN TOONAMI, it was known as BATMAN OF THE FUTURE...man this show was EPIC..
same in Latinamerica they called Batman of the future
According to Karl Smallwood from Factfiend it’s called that in Britain too.
According to The Justice League unlimited episode, Amanda Waller overwrote Terry's dad's dna with that of Bruce Wayne, because she said the world would always need a batman. So, Terry is technically Bruce's son.
Super spoilerrr
@@numbaoneg101 That wasn't even relevant to the series. That was just thrown in with Justice League Unlimited. I don't think it really takes away from the enjoyment of the show because they never build to it or rely on it for its conclusion.
@@alexanderkilburg7415 In the show there was tension btwn Terry’s parents because the sons both have black hair. Yet his dad had brown hair and his mom had red hair. This seemed like a random detail at the time but as time went on it was explained.
I just think the experience of finding that information out was very interesting. Knowing it from jump street would change the overall experience.
Yeah......but did we really need that?
Do you guys think that Rocksteady studios should make an Arkham Beyond Batman game down the road :) ?
Nah, Terry Mcginnis would be too Op for my opinion.
At least we have the Beyond suit in Arkham City and Arkham Knight
I would love to play that game if it were to be made, that's for sure.
Everything about this show man, I loved it so much, im still watching it to this day aswell
He’s as equivalent as Miles , soon he’ll be seen every where with the right marketing
Except Terry predates Miles by 12 years. Terry's first appareance ever was in 1999, while Miles' was in 2011.

Grew to love the show as a kid. Still think about the episode "Hooked Up" episode quite often and correlation to addiction.
"Terry" in that ruthless voice was great
Batman Beyond. Perfect example of the originality gene being dead currently.
And by "currently", you mean a TV show that ran between 1999 and 2001?
This show was so fire! I wish they’d bring it back. The movie was great too & so were the toys. I was obsessed with this series as a kid.
This was one of my favorite shows back then. The intro and song were amazing. I love the dark world compared to the Batman that came before it. I actually have a Batman Beyond picture in my gaming/movie room.
