    I bent like 5 switches trying to shove it in, thank you for this enlightenment! unfortunately I got the same issue with inserting since the plate was so flexible, several times the switch straight up dropped off after I tried pushing it down. several injured fingers, cursing for 30 mins and 1 penknife later, I got them in (albeit uneven, but that's a battle for another day). glad to see it's not just me facing this issue

    Got this as my first custom keyboard. Glad I found this video from your reddit post after Google searching about what the plastic film was.
    Happy to know I did not need to take it out.
    I just used a needle thing to poke a hole in each of the center holes and the pin holes as well. With a little bit of pressure and making sure the switches were aligned nicely, they fit into place with relative ease.
    Thanks for making these more specific videos.

    I got one with the plastic and it sounds great and yes a 5 pin will puncture of your hold the back. Got mine on Ali as well for like $26, found another a few days later for 23 so I ordered it as well. Building it for a friend for his birthday. Milky yellow I put in the first sound amazing and deep. Putting Khail box whites in the next as he likes clicky. Thanks for sharing this!!!

      I built one with Kailh Speed Bronze for someone, which are very similar feel/sound to Box White imho, and that sounded really good in the board. Such a good platform for the price. The whites will work well in it :)

    My situation was actually way worse. I removed the plastic sheet from the beginning and I still found difficulties inserting the switches. I then tried to put them in the plate first (which was also really difficult for a weird reason) and then into the pcb..!

    • @MechKeyboards
      @MechKeyboards  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some plates are real "flexy" like. I use a spudger to prop the plate up in front of the switch and start at the corners and stab keys, then the perimeter and fill in from there. After some practice it has worked out for me in most cases.

  • @45KevinR

    That's a heck of a nice sound, and even the spacebar was in tune with the other keys. The price (even for barebones) seems crazy low. Remind me of the other specs?

    My last GMK67 has this sheet, was also white like yours. I found I did not have to pop the sheet and the switches went in fine, initial fit just required a slightly harder push. Obviously making sure the pinds are REALLY straight. I c an see the cut route makes life slightly easier though :)

    shouldn't the sound tests with / without the plastic sheet be with the same setup? with so many variables at play, it makes it difficult to determine if the plastic sheet makes any difference.
    that being said, i removed mine because it made it difficult to insert switches and bent some pins. still sound great with stock milky yellow pros and a fully stock GMK67 with lubed stock stabs. i do have painter's tape and polyfill on the way.

    • @MechKeyboards

      Ideally, but I did not have another stock board nor the time to to full teardown and rebuilds with this one.
