I worked at a cell phone repair shop for a while, and I had a ton of charge port repairs, I can't say how many back glass repairs, but we had a lot for sure. It was annoying that I had to pretty much take the entire phone apart to get to the charge port.
The thing that blows my mind is how a lot of people are finally impressed that the inside is different even though the exterior looks similar to the old phone. Don't people realize that the moment a new/different SoC has to join the circuit that the whole motherboard has to be designed to accommodate the new chip, simply because the final shape looks similar to previous one doesn't mean not work has been done. Or maybe people finally believe their bs when they look at the exterior and say you can hardly spot any difference, that it means there's actually none?
When I used to do back glass repairs I would only charge $60. I felt that reasonable. Most of that cost was due to my time. But I wouldn't just change out the broken glass I would replace the entire housing plus the back glass because it was easier. You can buy an entirely new housing with the glass attached to already for around $7-$11.

Yo Jerry, use double-sided suction cups that grab the front and back. Also, put the phone on a hot plate at 85 degrees celsius to disperse heat evenly. If you must pry, you can use two iSesamos next to each other at the bottom of the phone with 99% isopropyl alcohol or denatured ethanol for more spread-out surface tension so as to not break the screen.
If only the charge port was more accessible, still nice to see that it's getting better. Just gotta worry about software locks that server no legitimate purpose.
Hugh Jeffries did a review and tear down of this and the Pro model… and Apple is still sticking to serial number matching to parts in the phone.. so if they are swapped out, the phone restricts functionality. Seems different IOS version though act differently in this regard.

I am feeling so calm listening to your voice
Yo Jerry, use double-sided suction cups that grab the front and back. Also, put the phone on a hot plate at 85 degrees celsius to disperse heat evenly. If you must pry, you can use two iSesamos next to each other at the bottom of the phone with 99% isopropyl alcohol or denatured ethanol for more spread-out surface tension so as to not break the screen.
If only the charge port was more accessible, still nice to see that it's getting better. Just gotta worry about software locks that server no legitimate purpose.
Imma put this out there, I don’t listen to ASMR but I could listen to Jerry for hours on end, he’s got such a soothing voice

Hugh Jeffries did a review and tear down of this and the Pro model… and Apple is still sticking to serial number matching to parts in the phone.. so if they are swapped out, the phone restricts functionality. Seems different IOS version though act differently in this regard.
while i do agree with the non genuine part warnings and messages, they shouldn’t brick or remove functionality from the replacement parts.
@@sys-administrator it restrict, some functions are not avaible.
@@sys-administrator what are you talkin about it does restrict some functionality lmao watch again the whole video from hugh jeffries
@@sys-administrator it does restrict functionality, and a lot of features that aren't necessary to be locked as well.
@@sys-administrator I don’t have True Tone anymore after getting a 3rd party screen replacement.
“Screw It”. Stuff like that is a reminder to why I am subbed to awesome channels like these.
We want to do some live tear downs for engineers in our company. What kind of camera and lighting do you use that gives you such a large depth of field in focus and let’s you see small components clearly?
Camera is a gh5 with a speedbooster adapter to fit a sigma 18-35. Lights are from Amazon. Watch my "Nintendo switch joycon drift fix" for a studio tour. Email me with any questions.
Weird how the most exciting part of the 14 for me is the easily replaceable back glass. After spending hours and cutting myself up in the process of replacing the iPhone X glass, this is a welcome change.
"Yoink up..." Love It! 🤣🤣🤣 Is that official Apple speak?🤪
Fairly impressed with apple this year although tech wise its not a major jump it's so nice they finally did a good job on making the phones repairable again after like 6 years, also impressed with the Apple Watch ultra considering its actually durable.
Who would've guessed that Apple of all company made their phone more repairable. It's a long way to go but nice job Apple!
Still gonna cost a lot to repair
Loved that "Opens up like a book, if you live in US/Japan"
For once, their engineers focused on the repairability. And this is great.
Repair ability without sacrificing anything else
Lol i think not
