I think the only thing that could have aged worse than Matt predicting Charles for champion is saying that De Vries would be promoted to Red Bull at the end of the season
You’re right about Oscar. He has been very close to Lando all season and has been getting better every race. He’s also had a few misfortunes like in Miami, Saudi & Spain which didn’t make it look good on paper. But now McLaren have pace again people are noticing his performances.
It’s tough to quantify how much I appreciate this channel. I’m new to F1 and get so hyped every time you guys post. You guys are such a fun accoutrement to this wonderful sport that I’ve fallen in love with. Thanks boys!!!
I dont think you could ever call Norris a team mate killer when Sainz beat him both years they were team mates, just Danny Ric wasn't suited to the McLaren.
the difference is Lando was a newbie then. No one expected him to beat Sainz, and to his credit, he was catching up and more than likely would've started beating him on the regular had Sainz not moved. Ric, on the other hand, was expected to completely dominate Lando in the seasons, potentially cause Lando to lose his seat. And what happened was the complete opposite. What's worse was that the gap became larger in the 2nd season. The McLaren stint nearly completely ended Danny's F1 career, and it took a ridiculous set of circumstances for him to return.
I think an honorable mention for biggest good surprise is Albon. He just keeps looking better, the more time he spends in the car. He was solid last year, excellent this year, so who knows what he will do in that Williams next year.
I think Matt's prediction about de vrise and Riccardo is proof that his is Helmut Marco. think about it, no one has ever seen them in the same room at the same time 🤔
Who on earth calls lando a teammate killer? Personally I predicted that Piastri will match Norris' pace faster than people expect and I think it's looking good.
Matt on Alpine drivers “We’ve not seen anything in terms of fractious between them” Also Alpine Drivers: Yeeting each other into the barriers on the penultimate lap in Melbourne
Biggest good surprise is without a doubt Fernando Alonso. No one saw Aston Martin to be competing with the top 3 constructors, but still he is P1 if we don't count Red Bull in terms of points. Oskar has been good and I really like him, but Alonso is clear in terms of biggest good surprise.
Just wanted to say that you guys have grown on me. WTF was a bit much, for me, at times. But I kept watching and follow you now on P1. You've grown and grown on me. Keep up the unbiased (excluding Ferrari) info.

I think on pace he might be with them at some point, but he doesn't quite have that same unyielding winner mentality that they have (yet) All of these multiple world champions have had to have some degree of ruthlessness to try and reinforce their place as #1 driver in the team, for example, Lewis disregarding team orders to let Fernando past in his rookie season, Fernando blocking Lewis in the pit lane, Max not letting checo past, Vettel passing webber for the win etc. If he wants to be number 1 he can't be afraid to make some asshole moves once in a while
Honestly Logan is a big meme for being American. It took me a few days of watching Tommy try to make him wdc to even realize the US national anthem was what was playing in the background
Yeah Gasly would be within single digits of Ocon if Kmag didn't smash into a wall in Australia. He was likely going to finish 5th or 6th. And Ocon got a podium in Monaco which is an achievement, but at the same time if you're qualifying on the podium there's literally no way to lose that position bar unreliability or error. I will note that Gasly still has a shit ton of penalty points, so I wouldn't be surprised if he has been driving conservatively for the first half. But in all honestly both drivers are pretty much equally matched. They're the perfect pairing for a team like Alpine. (Good enough to be 2nd drivers at the front, basically guaranteed team leaders in back of the grid teams)
I think you have both underestimated how good Piastri has been. He has been very close to Norris in qualifying, even at the beginning, has made very few mistakes and was definitely faster at Spa. He has the goods to beat Norris perhaps even next year.
I had a great prediction that Williams wouldn't finish last which can still happen but looking good. I then evened that out with the prediction that De Vries would outperform Yuki and Yuki would lose his seat...
Don't know if we can ever really say Gasley will be the biggest flop at this point, since a certain somebody lost his seat already. Whether De Vries deserved it that early or not is another story, but who can flop harder than that?
Gasly isn't having a good season but if you look at it, he's been plagued by poor strategy and pitstops. The time's he's had great pace he's then been impeded or impeded someone else
The comment about Verstappen being a “teammate killer” is rich, given that Hamilton is on record saying “there is only one no.1 driver in the team”. I do agree with your predictions on Piastri - he is someone to watch for the future.
hey @P1 with Matt & Tommy, when you guys say about previous track record and everything for Goerge Russel, Max, Leclerc, and young boy Oscar, didn't Mick had the same kind of records? F2 winner on his rookie year, same with F3 as well

Place in the standings 2018 - F3 - Won the championship 2019 - F2 - 12. Place in the standings 2020 - F2 - Won the championship Now Oscar's Career: 2016/2017 - UAE F4 - 6. Place in the standings (Only participated in 3 races) 2017 - British F4 - 2. Place in the standings 2018 - Formula Renault Eurocup - 8. Place in the standings 2019 - Formula Renault Eurocup - Won the championship 2020 - F3 - Won the championship 2021 - F2 - Won the championship Saying Mick had the same career is just delusional, because he hadn't. Mick always needed a lot of time, more than one and a half seasons, to adapt until he was able to get somewhere. Oscar was able to already perform well as a rookie.
Yeah, Maybe the Williams was just really easy to drive, especially on Monza. Albon might have gotten a better result there, well ahead of the DRS train. And someone like Max...might have gotten 4th or 5th in that car? It's not like he didn't do that already as a rookie in a Toro Rosso which LACKED top speed.
I’m backing that Matt’s prediction re: Alonso > Stroll hasn’t come true thanks to daddy S. Not passing Stroll on track, providing brake settings, calling Stroll a future world champion, etc etc.
You should predict who will be the world champion without Red Bull, my guess right now would be Lewis just because of the Aston Drop off and I don't think Lando will pick up enough wins before the end of the year.
Prediction I want to happen for 2023 still: a shoey for a RIcciardo win. He did it with McLaren, and we don't even know for sure he'll only drive for Alpha Tauri this season. Alpha Tauri/Toro Rosso won Monza, twice really, so why not?
Best of the rest, historically, has been 7th. You have the top 3 teams that are usually quite a bit faster than the rest of the grid, making up the top 6 drivers, leaving whoever comes in 7th being "best of the rest" so that's what I assumed he meant by that. Honestly though, at this point, best of the rest for this season might as well be 3rd.
I never understood that prediction. it was clear at the end of 2022 that RB was ahead of Ferrari, and Ferrari out developing RB is just not something they're capable of.
@@Daxboy16 Predicting Max would have made more sense, but it would also be boring. At least predicting Charles has the chance of paying off on the slim chance that it comes true, à la his prescience regarding Danny Ric.

If Aston fully sends it, Alonso should be on P3 to earn the title "Best of the Rest".

Biggest Flop so far this season has to be Lance Stroll. Started the year with a car that could take the fight to RB, and even though they fallen off slightly, he’s still in the same position at the beginning of the season. No podiums, 5th was best grid starting position and most of all, doesn’t even have 50 POINTS. Forsure biggest flop
Arguing that Checo is the 13th best driver is a bit ridiculous. Of course, he's not as good as Max or the "lead" driver at the other top teams. He should be rated 5th to 7th, but not 13th. Also Piastri should be rated higher because many of his poor races come down to lack of experience, and he should get an easier ride as a rookie. Honestly, he had the most impressive season after Max (and maybe Alonso).
Only one man on the grid deserves biggest flop and that is unequivocally: Sergio Perez. I don't care if he finishes 2nd in the standings or not, his performances have been LAUGHABLE given the quality of car he has under him. Period.

@@hideouspatje you clowns say Leclerc makes too many mistakes but ignore he's in a Ferrari. Like as if Max or Lewis, etc would be any better in that clown of a team. biggest flop so far this season is a tie between Kevin Magnussen and Logan Sargeant
Please do this at the end of the year aswell
In the thumbnail, why is Tom’s chin gigachad size?
No way max sign that Grace babyjumper , she literally made him god
If you think Ferrari is going to win anything anytime soon, then I've got a bridge to sell you in NYC.
this is gonna be nice :)
Welp Mat there always next year for Ferrari
5000 people joined the video when Matt talked about World Champion 😂😂😂😂
Leclerc will Never be champion while in Ferrari 🥲
I think you can delete the ferrari part...
Leclerc never will win a world championship, doesn't matter the team.
@@Beau_Rivage over one lap he's among the best there is... over a complete championship not so much.... far too many mistakes and inconsistencies...
It should read, “Leclerc will never be champion while Verstappen”.
@@hideouspatje you clowns say Leclerc makes too many mistakes but ignore he's in a Ferrari. Like as if Max or Lewis, etc would be any better in that clown of a team.
In qualifying, Max messes up way more often than Leclerc. Both drivers driving at the limit without team strategy involved, Leclerc is far more consistent.
Max would quit F1 without GP, imagine him even driving with Xavi and "we are checking".
Jeez Tommy use shorter sentences please with a less boring voice and akward pauzes !!!! Matt I love you !!!
I also hope Charles Leclec becomes world champion
I used to really dislike Matt. I'm not sure why to be fair. Given his content alongside tommy is great. Keep it up lads.
Calling Williams the 7th best car is such a nice way to say 4th worst.
Biggest flop is def checo
The guy that is second wd standings?
@@Pidea14 yeah and just barely lol. The guy who couldn’t make q3 5 races in a row? The guy who has a 125 point deficit to his teammate which is the biggest spread out of all the teams? The guy who only wins when max has problems? Yeah that guy that’s your number 2 alright, also if aston Martin kept their trajectory checo wouldn’t even be p2
@@IAmLeutrimTopalli that's a big if, I think Sargent, Bottas, de vries, Magnuson have all had terrible seasons.
@@Pidea14 that was all expected, you seriously can’t think that checo is doing better than every other driver and worthy of that number 2 seat? Checo isn’t supposed to be any lower than p2 any race just like max especially in the fastest car. It’s like bottas compared to lewis, checo belongs right in that line up.
Gasly with the biggest floppy!
