The luckiest driver was Lando for not getting a penalty for the aborted start blunder. Max getting from 17th to 6th in 12 laps had nothing to do with the red flag. Also, Lando repeatedly asked to pit before the red flag but now alleges max got lucky because max decided not to pit. Three times Lando went off the track that also had nothing to do with luck.

Or think of rainly Monza 2021 when Lewis went off, damaged his car when doing so, and then was lucky that the Bottas/Russel crash happened that caused a red flag, when they could repair his car under the red flag. There wasn't much discussion then (by the British media) whether it was ok, not only to change tires, but to repair a car under a red flag. That red flag caused Lewis to get out in a repaird car and finish second (I believe) and thus, gaining a huge advantage of said red flag situation.

The entire changing tyre under red discussion is just because it favoured Max this week. It is the same principle as changing tyres under a VSC or SC, that gives you an advantage too. But suddenly it is unfair and a problem. At least this red flag was pretty predictable, most drivers were mentioning the terrible conditions and even calling for a red flag. Staying out was a calculated risk. Usually, it is more luck. For example, the SC in Miami that helped Lando win was less predictable, and according to the reasoning here even more unfair. And yet, usually it is just accepted as part of racing.

Unbelievable that Bernie only mentions Max when she says that drivers are waiting for a red flag to get a free pitstop. But that is what every driver would want. And all drivers complain about the conditions to get a red flag or a safety car, like Lando did(in one of the races. His engineer said “Lando , there is a lot of debris on the track”. Lando said: “yes, somebody is going to have an accident “. That is also to influence the race director. Every driver does this. And what about Miami where Lando had luck because the safety car missed him…he literally won because of that.
In this race George was literally shouting that he wanted to stay out because it would be a red flag. When the red flag came he was angry and shouted “I told you, we should have stayed out”. He even said the same during the press conference. This is the most obvious example of the race to mention, yet she talks about Max, who stayed out because his tyres were still good.
And why she is saying “he would have won without the red flag, he didn’t need that”… as if Max has control over the other drivers crashing and bringing out the red flag.
Jeez, even when Max has a faultless race, sky sports can find something to make him look bad🙄…

No one is forcing anyone to watch the Sky commentary, but if you do then you have to accept that it's a British feed, because that's what it is. What I find most hilarious about it is that "we", of course I only speak for myself as an enthusiast who is immersed in "his" sport..., all know that if you were to change "MV, Ocon and Gasly" to "Norris, Ocon and Gasly" it would not only have been smart and logical, based on the past and simply the rules, it would also most likely have been the "Strategic Move of the Decade" in England...

Is Damon Hill still at the airport? 😏
Also a SERIOUS look has to be taken at having stewards of a certain country background during the season to minimize any potential chance of bias.
In other sports like boxing as an example you can’t have all the judges having the same country background as the fighter. I do agree there is more nuance to this considering the many different nationalities of the F1 drivers. However having British stewards making the calls when a British driver is in contention of a title is one potential misjudgment away from a bias controversy.

In 2021 there were a couple of instances that Hamilton had an advantage in his battle with Max. That helped him getting a much better result that weekend and in the end have that close battle in Abu Dhabi. Example Imola 2021. If not for the red vlag Hamilton wouldn’t be able to fix his wing, change the damaged tires and end the race in second place. Strange that I did not see this red vlag discussion from Sky Sports that year….
And looking at the fact that a driver is asking for a red flag. Thats part of the sport. Just like it is in soccer. It is part of the tactic to stay out as long as possible and wait for a crash to happen at that moment. The race director should not listen to the drivers and follow their own process.

"Is Max Verstappen the best wet weather driver of ALL-TIME?" You can definitely make a case for it. When it mattered most, Max came through in brilliant fashion to win the race in horrendeous conditions.
While handing out acolades for wet driving, lets not forget Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. Alpine's driver didn't put a foot wrong either throughout that deluge during the race. In the Cool Down Room after the race, Max said to Ocon he couldn't catch him when Ocon had the lead. It took a safety car to offer the opportunity for Max to get by Ocon. Max put on a master class of wet driving, but other drivers were with him until the track started to dry.

I honestly believe people are overlooking one rather glaring fact on Verstappen (and Ocon for that matter) not pitting. Everyone that hadn't pit before the VSC in lap 28 , got round to the pit entry under VSC conditions, however by the time Verstappen and Ocon got round to there, the VSC had already been lifted, in fact it was lifted just as George and Lando entered the pitlane. So it could well have been unfavorable for them to stop at that time anyhow.
Having said that, I don't think they would have stopped even if the VSC had still been out, as Verstappen already asked GP how long the heavy rain was expected to last, and said he would sit it out on his old intermediates, and Gasly had already been the only driver not to stop under VSC, so I doubt Ocon would have.
And to claim staying out on those tires was reckless, is ignoring the fact that most of the field opted to go for new intermediates instead of full wets themselves, at a time the full wet was the obvious better choice. After all Perez was 12 seconds faster than Verstappen on lap 30 before the safetycar was deployed in lap 31. So it could be said going out on new intermediates was just as reckless.
Also the allegation that those who stayed out, and especially Verstappen, were pushing for the race to be red flagged, is low in my opinion, having listened back to most team radios from lap 28 until the red flag, Verstappen definitely wasn't any more vocal about it than others. In fact, it probably was Piastri, on his new Intermediates, who was most vocal about it being too dangerous.
