Since Metroid Prime 4 got announced I started my first proper job, moved out of my parents' house, met my now wife and moved to a different country.
Woah
@@WillemvanderPijl It's absolutely mad how long it's been.
Based on my backlog I am fine with waiting another year on a new console (especially since I have a personal rule that I don't buy new systems in their first year of release).
Every time I’ve bought a console in the first year, I’ve regretted it. Think that’s a great rule of thumb to have
I have the same rule, I typically get consoles six months to a year later just in case there are hardware issues that come up.
From a gameplay standpoint, I’m fine with no Switch 2 in 2024. But I can’t deal with another year of leaks and rumors.
Good rule. I stick to the same nowadays. Got burned too many times in the past. It's like we're punished for being early adopters. Especially with the 360's RROD debacle. Never again.
I have a similar rule. No new console until 3 games of interest are released.
I have a feeling it's going to be a mostly quiet year for the Switch, at least for the time being. Which I'm perfectly fine with, since I won't go broke with exciting games being released one after another like the past couple of years.
Plus...I have a backlog of older games that I want to finish.
Yasss I feel the same exact way! It’ll give me the chance to save some $$ and be able to sit back and enjoy a lot of games I’ve been wanting to spend more time with. Love the positive mindset! 😊
Same
I want another star fox that actually functions.
I loved Starfox Zero. It just needed more content. Though a Starfox Assault 2 would be sick.
It won't function if we keep the name of the 2nd Gamecube sequel. I'd rather have Star Fox function for online multiplayer, but if they Release the Gamecube sequel (or remake) it should have a game title that doesn't break search engines.
@@GamerOfPhones Huh?
Hopefully Nintendo used their crossover with Ubisoft's Battle for Atlas as a basic template for a game set in the Corneria System.
Add No Man's Sky's ability to explore on foot, Great Fox as a mobile base, the Landmaster Tank and Blue Marine, it could be revolutionary.
I like the way you all interact and have fun in your videos. It really does make a difference in how enjoyable something is to watch when the people in it are having fun and being nice
I think it will be a fairly weak year throughout, but might have a stellar holiday season if there's a Switch 2 coming and has solid launch titles.
2witch 21/11/25
Only "big game" is going to be the pokemon game this year due to it being time at this point
(Unless they want to NOT do a yearly release and if they do THANK GOD)
I think Prime 4 is going to be cross-gen, mainly because Nintendo usually stick to their promise if a game’s dev cycle falls into another generation. I personally think Switch 2 is coming as it stands right now, but I think the February direct will make or break that mentality for a lot of people.
I don't recall Metroid Prime 4 ever being promised to release on the Switch, and we've already had Pikmin 3 go from Wii to Wii U and Luigi's Mansion 3 from Wii U to Switch (though the latter was not announced). I actually think even Metroid Prime 3 went to the Wii after initially being developed for the GC.
@@leonrothey said it’s coming to Switch
@leonro it was promised. They rebuilt the game after they admitted to screwing it up.
@@Christianmingle420 same happened with Pikmin 3 though
Still feels too early for new hardware
The original Gameboy went for 9 years or more depending on how you look at it. Also, while the switch hasn't had a price drop, it may as well have with the crazy inflation during its life!
That was back when Nintendo had two consoles going at once, so you can't compare the Switch to the gameboy days.
@@ItApproaches I suppose not, but even so, a decade of the same device with little to no upgrades is what the Gameboy line was. I'm sure it helped to have a SNES or N64 to keep things fresh though.
@@Nathan-mu1pz The home console had the bigger games and the handheld had a lower maxed out quality, that's why it lasted longer. Also Pokemon was a big reason their handhelds lasted so long. I really want Nintendo to lose the hybrid path and go back to a dedicated home console and dedicated hand held.
Would love to get more discussions like this again on the channel they're so relaxing :).
I’m excited to see what’ll be released on NSO this year. I’m hoping we’ll get Smash 64, DK 64, Banjo Tooie, and Diddy Kong Racing 🤞
Mystical Ninja or nothing
@@mosquitopyjamas9048man we really need that! I miss that game its underrated for me
@@coolchannelize15 I get waves of nostalgia every now and again for it. The music alone is S tier
@@mosquitopyjamas9048 I agree! It was a big part of my childhood!
120 refresh rate on handheld sounds overkill in terms of battery life, but if it's used for VR, it could finally make it more accessible.
It's not actually a problem for battery life. The reason why it uses up more power on phones is that the UI is rendered 120 times per second. But a 120hz display would allow games to run at 60fps as normal, but also 120fps if possible (for simpler games) or at 40fps, as a good in-between option. You can't properly display 40fps on a 60hz screen because 40 doesn't divide 60.
For these reasons, I would rather have a 720p 120hz display than a 1080p 60hz one.
I think, given the recent line up that was revealed on the last Direct, it'll be a low key but solid year for the Switch. A lot of those games announced are ones I'm interested in, so I'm happy with what's coming this year/any other announcements that will be made
There's still some lingering secrets up Nintendo's sleeve.
I have a feeling that the Switch 2 will be some kind of hybrid of home console and mixed-reality portable. You will have the console that you can play on your tv, but also you have this "AR glasses" thing that will work as the portable mode, with the joycons detaching to be used one in each hand and the image is streamed to the glasses from the console, maybe the glasses have some gyroscope too idk, and you carry the console with you in your pocket or something. That will also eliminate the need for a screen in the console, because the screen is the glasses.
I just have this feeling, but also because I believe that in some 5 year span the spatial computing thing will be the dominant way of experiencing technology, and maybe this is the time to present it in gaming so it'll still be felt as an exciting novelty.
Movies and theme parks and console rumors, oh my!
I’d love them to release an OLED Lite with maybe an extra half inch on the screen. That would tide me over nicely!
It’s quite obvious Nintendo is setting up Donkey Kong for something big. I wouldn’t be surprised if they come up with a donkey Kong 3D game for the switch or the new console.
What's that based off? DK being in the Mario movie lol? Obviously at some point Nintendo will putout a new DK game, though might not be till Retro is done with Prime 4 then goes back to make a 3rd DKC game...
@@ItApproaches the theme park maybe???
@@naturaleo2831 That has no connection to their game plans. Maybe the other way around, if a game comes out they might take something from it and add it to the park but not the other way around.
I wanted a Zelda 3D Allstars HD Remake, with Ocarina, Majora and Twilight. All in Widescreen.
That alone would make me very happy this year. 😲
It would be both messed up and a little funny if it had a time limit like that Mario 3D all stars games did
Artificial scarcity for the win
Except 3D allstars wasn’t even remakes, they were just emulation games with not enough quality of life updates & just bare bone minimum, Nintendo would do the same but they haven’t done a collection since the GameCube for Zelda.
Honestly at this point I just want them to release Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD on the switch 😢
If they did an All-Stars for Zelda and it was 3 games like that, Majoras Mask wouldnt be in it. It would be Ocarina, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess.
I would love a megaman legends collection, but wouldn't it be crazy if the demo for the third one came with the extras?
Aside from a full MM Legends 3, I think that’s the ideal scenario.
A MegaMan Legends collection would be awesome along with MegaMan Legends 3 considering it was cancelled from the 3Ds.
A note on Switch Pricing: In Canada the base Switch launched at $379.99, and is currently $399.99 (to clarify I'm not referring to the OLED model, which is $449.99). So in some parts of the world, the price of the base console has actually gone up.
Yes, but inflation has also hiked up since covid, so the $20 could be the reason they raised the price
The wii u gamepad had ir sensing for pointer controls, it could totally work on switch
Insane. The Switch still feels so new to me.
I see a Switch successor being announced, specs being shown, and demo footage put out; however, I believe the new system won’t drop until between November 2024 at the earliest and March 2025. I can see them waiting until the end of the fiscal year before we get a new system.
Lord forbid Nintendo goes down VR. Personal reservation about seeing a screens all around me aside, imagine the motion sickness you'd get from that.
My thought on the release of the Switch 2 is that it will be announced this fall with a release date in March of 2025. In the meantime, I expect this year to give us Metroid Prime 2 and 3 Remastered. I think we might see Metroid Prime 2 in February or March, followed by Metroid Prime 3 in October or November. I'm basing this on the assumption that they're not going to push Metroid Prime 4 beyond 2025. It may even be a Switch 2 launch title.
We’ll get a new switch this year
I they announce it in March that would mean a release in the summer. Nintendo never waits longer than that between announcement and release.

I they announce it in March that would mean a release in the summer. Nintendo never waits longer than that between announcement and release.
At least in Europe, The Switch got a price drop a couple years I think. It was a minimal one: the original Switch's price was dropped by €20, while the OLED model's price was brought down to the original model's original price. So a rather inconsequential price drop. Still, the fact that the Switch didn't see a price hike like in the UK, despite record inflation in the last two years, is still something. And while it feels very weird that the Switch still retails for close to its original price 7 years into its lifetime, the fact is it's still making record sales at such prices, so it really isn't surprising Nintendo won't drop the prices any further.
As for a Switch 2 (or whatever successor name it will have) announcement, I think we'll only get one this year if the sales figures start dropping quickly. Nintendo is probably ready to announce the new hardware at any time, but wants to time it just right to not hit on Switch sales too hard. A holiday release only makes sense if they feel they won't make projected figures for the Switch alone during the next holiday season. There may also be concerns of hardware availability. We're still suffering chip shortages that increase hardware costs, and Nintendo may not be willing to increase the price of the next hardware by too much. They are already at the edge of what the market will take, especially when it comes to peripherals, so they can't afford to increase prices too much.
I see the launch titles (if the system launches in November, which I suspect it will) being three first party Nintendo games, new 3D Mario, Pokemon Gen 5 remakes and a Yoshi or Kirby title. I would love for MK9 to be a launch game, but that and a new 3D Mario on the same day is a bit much on the Mario side lol. There is a possibility of a Zelda remake aka Windwaker/Twilight....I hesitate on Ocarina though lol. As for Prime 4, that depends on a few things, Prime 2 and 3 remastered have to come out before we get to Prime 4. And I think Prime 4 stays Switch exclusive but with backwards compatibility all four Primes can be played on the new system anyway. I just don't see Retro having enough time to build Prime 4 from the ground up for Switch, learn the Switch inside and out, learn the new system inside and out, and make a separate version. That's WAY to much for Retro to do in 5 years time.
For some reason the "First look at the Nintendo Switch" trailer is unlisted from Nintendo US, UK and JP. For OLED is still up. Random? Idk
How the hell is there no legs to rumors of a new Donkey Kong game? You don't build up DK in the movie, open a whole ass theme park, and go back to using Donkey Kong's logo on merchandise after years of all DK merch using the "Super Mario" logo, only to not have big plans for DK.
I think this year will be perfectly fine just the way it is
I find it funny, as Alex said, that a new console makes him nervous because the whole channel is built around the Switch. Because that’s the case for a lot of TH-cam channels. Their whole identity is built around a specific piece of hardware, so when that hardware gets replaced their channel crumbles… or they at least have to reform.
That's a them problem. Just brand yourself as a Nintendo channel to avoid that.
I've got a feeling that Metroid Prime 4 will be a launch title for the new console.
The plastic VR display is brilliant.
I want so much Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD on switch, because I have a Wii U, but never bought them. Nowadays, they’ve become collectors’ items and are too much expensive, even for a used copy, which is insane.
I would like the successor to be a simple incremental upgrade. No added gimmick.
Not throwing out the eshop (again) would be nice too.
I’m only ten minutes into the video so maybe they’ll talk about it later in the video (tho I doubt it), but one thing I’d love to see is a new dedicated handheld. I know the Switch is a hybrid console that can function as a large handheld, but I think Nintendo has always excelled at creating dedicated handhelds-specifically ones that easily and comfortably fit in your hands. Game Boy, GBA, DS and 3DS-all super successful and created avenues for unique and engaging games, many of which likely wouldn’t have otherwise come out. It could pair with or compliment the Switch successor in some way, like they’ve done in the past with Game Boy/SNES, GBA/GameCube, etc.
No one online seems to be talking about a new Nintendo dedicated handheld these days, so maybe I’m the outlier here, but I’d buy it day 1 if they ever release another one.
Is it just me or has everyone been getting non-stop TH-cam ads for the Another Code game? For such a niche game I’m surprised how hard Nintendo seems to be pushing it
Just you, most people dont see ads
I’m fine waiting until 2025 for a new console. Besides, even if it does drop this year, it’s likely not until later fall/winter, which is most of a year away anyway, so it’s not a huge difference tbh. My guess is the new console will drop sometime between November 2024 and March 2025 to coincide with the end of Nintendo’s fiscal year.
As for back compat? It’s probably gonna be partial. I don’t expect we’ll be able to play every Switch game on the new system, and what support we do get for older games will likely have to roll out via patches per title.
Nah, it can be like how the 3DS could play DS games, just pop them in and away you go, no extra work or steps need be done. Both Switch and the new system will likely use the same cartridges.
Monolithsoft's new IP pls
My only prediction is that another Vanillaware remake will be released on the Switch in the coming year. Either Muramasa: The Demon Blade or Dragon's Crown.
The one thing i want the most IS to bring back Dual Screen play, as an option. With (3)DS added to Switch Online
It mainly depends on sales. If you have a console still selling really well, then you wouldn't want to come out with something new to undermine/take away sales from the older console. Thats also why they wait last minute to announce a new console before releasing it(cause why would i by the older console when the next gen is coming out around the holidays).
3:58 I've been thinking about this very thing for the past few years. I find it to be such a gamble.
If you guys remember the Switch launch there was little to no sense to buy it for like the first 9 months. They were only expecting core fans to get it. I feel that's how they will do everything with its successors. Most games for about a year are gonna be cross-gen and then slowly after all the core fans will "switch" and a more casual audience start getting the console, Nintendo will start introducing more and more exclusives.
I’ve been saying VR for years!
And Metroid Prime in VR would be a game changing experience!
Imagine TOTK VR...

Switch was $325 on release here in Australia. It's now $450-$500
I'd love to see an infrared sensor appear.
Gyro is nice for motion controls but IR is just the best for aiming.
I honestly think Nintendo are more likely to do an AR Console than a VR Console.
I can absolutely picture them releasing a console that consists of a tabletop-gaming-board looking console and cheap version of something like Google Lenses... with a top-down Zelda for a launch title.
I feel like we're at the point where either Nintendo do that, or Bandai pick either Tamagotchi or Digimon to give an AR V-Pet.
I think we will get another console this year but it won't release until November and we won't hear an announcement until probably April and i believe it will basically be an upgraded new console not to different from Switch and will be backwards compatible kind of the same as the transition from 3DS to the New Nintendo 3DS but this is just my opinion
why would they release a mid-gen upgrade only slightly more powerful than the original 7 and a half years after it came out (already nintendo’s largest console cycle)?
@cwega2463 the New Nintendo 3ds was not a Mid-Gen refresh it literally was the next-gen Nintendo handheld system at that time Nintendo still had their home consoles and handheld systems in two different categories while the New Nintendo 3ds was backwards compatible with the original 3ds it also was a significant upgrade in hardware and even though they didn't make that many exclusive New Nintendo 3ds games it played all previous 3ds games better than the original and it allowed for 16bit games as well you can not play super Mario World on a 3ds it can only work on the new Nintendo 3ds because it literally is upgraded hardware in other words the new Nintendo 3ds would have basically been the 3ds 2 not just another 3ds
@cwega2463 also because it would be the best business move to keep the same formula that is working and just improve apond it when Nintendo released the gameboy color it was a big leap forward as far as hardware for a handheld device at that time but Nintendo themselves don't even consider it another generation they literally consider the Gameboy Color and the Gameboy the same gen ( 12 year life Cycle ) and because of that it is literally the 2nd best selling system world wide so far just a few million systems sold less than the PS2 this isn't their first go at this Nintendo has been a successful business for over 100 years i think they got this
@@demonicbrawler3792 The "New 3DS" has never been a "next-gen" anything. It doesn't even qualify as a "mid-gen refresh." It gets it's own category: the mid-gen "smallest measurable change to this console to BARELY run a few new or improved games and BARELY give anyone reason to buy this" refresh.
: /
@Synathidy you know what you have a valid point i personally preferred it over the original 3ds but not for the software ( other than the 16bit games that i probably just have nostalgia for and therefore isn't relevant ) but because of the larger screen improved resolution and expanded battery life however i was gaven my 3ds for Christmas and didn't have to buy it myself like i did the new Nintendo 3ds when it released so i guess if i had i may have felt like it wasn't worth putting out the money just to basically buy a slightly improved system than the one i already own
i agree with you tho at least here in the us i haven’t seen a big mark down on the switch. if it suddenly became way cheaper i would bought tons of them for Christmas gifts
They could put the sensor bar in the dock
What i worry about with the next update is that Nintendo is not going to be able to tell a compelling pitch if the be switch is just better graphics.
Its going to be very confusing for casual gamers that are most of switch's player base now. I think Nintendo will get trapped making cross gen for all new games for like 2-3 years
@@chiquita683Nah, only games already mentioned for Switch will be for switch. Nintendo won't be making double versions of their games. An occasional one maybe, like how BOTW had both Wii U and Switch as a launch game, but most of their games? Nah. They will trickle out the last Switch games that have been in the works for a while and while the new system is out, the Switch will have a year of cross over where essentially Nintendo is supporting two systems, like their older days when they hand a home console and handheld out at the same time.
the switch is a very different animal than older nintendo consoles, times are very different, its hard to see that they would just ditch it completely and move on without providing more of an easier transition.@@ItApproaches
@@jamiemorgan3236 Nintendo always doesn't odd things. Wouldn't be the first time.
does anyone remember that Nintendo announced that this console was supposed to have a 10 year life cycle?
The easiest launch title for Nintendo VR hardware would be yet another remake of Star Fox!
Man, I miss the Wii U. Such an underrated console. I loved my Windwaker edition of the Wii U. Shame it didn't catch on.
If they are smart, there will be summer announcement and official new hardware in the holiday season
I have really been loving the semi-portability of the switch, I really wouldn't like to see a successor drop that.
Jon will fight for the sensor bar
So if nintendo drops the price of the switchlite to possibly under $100. Then why couldn't they sell a "controller" with a screen that can cradle a "tablet" that still is able to dock to the TV and pair with joycon
The Switch ‘brand’ is so strong it would insane if they didnt just upgrade the hardware like Zion said. Abanding a brand theyve spent 7 years building would be a really bad merekat-ing decision so dont worry Alex! Trust me 😅
People seem to forget there is a switch oled so its sorta like like switch 2 the oled so much better visually i ended up getting a oled Tv because how i loved screen looks specially when it comes to dark colors
The Bayonetta 3 BGM is a nice touch
I hope that the next Nintendo system will sell well because a lot of people bought their Switch in the past 2 or 3 years during the pandemic and so they feel like their console is still new and so they might not feel like upgrading.
For me it's perfectly normal that Nintendo is investing in remakes this year. Not to mention that large companies also do this constantly. It will be and has started to be a great year for Nintendo.
4:28 Game Boy to Game Boy Advance was 12 years.
I'm a bit with Alex on this one. I don't want new hardware from Nintendo unless it's well thought out and has amazing launch titles. We don't need a new Nintendo console unless it's really worthwhile. FWIW while we're dreaming would love a refresh on the Donkey Kong series for a launch title, a really amazing 3d DK would be grand. A new 3d Mario would be great. Not sure how they'll fill the Zelda gap, maybe with Wind Waker. It's possible that a new 3d Zelda has also been in development for new hardware. ToTK seems like it could have been a smaller team working on it--so much was already developed for BotW.
Hades 2, Thank Goodness You're Here, Metal Gear Tactics, Suikoden remakes, Unicorn Overlord, Princess Peach, Thousand Year Door, LM2, Possibly Silk Song & Prime 2 & 3 & whatever other suprize drops we get. Its a healthy year for the Switch

Sales look pretty good for the Switch. If they keep being like that, we won’t hear about any new Nintendo console during this year.
I'm looking forward to seeing what ports and indie games are coming to the Nintendo switch this year.
My prediction is that the Switch 2 gets confirmed in the recently announced Nintendo Direct for September release.
Guys, it's going to be a Switch 3D. They nearly perfected the 3D with the New 3DS, they are going to make it even better this time with a 7.2inch screen 1080p 60FPS.
I'm shooting for the stars.
Conclusion I have come to is even if switch comes this year most won’t get it this year due to scalpers I mean they put a strangle hold on PlayStation portal and that’s a device whose main function can be done by any tablet
All I'm hoping for this year is for that damn new Digimon Story game to be revealed at March cause it's been 8 long years since it's been announced.
They need to mix mario party with diddy kongs world function or mario rpg or gauntlet 64...so you are competing but the map is not a game board the whole time so the game is bigger and the group advances together or there is an overworld
Would it still be mario party?
I just hope Nintendo sells a Tablet only OLED model for $150 or lower before they release a successor.
If any Pokémon game should come out right now it should be a remake of Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky.
Love discussion videos like these!
If I’m being honest I wouldn’t think they would go into Vr, speaking as the Oculus Quests are available
I would buy a switch 2 on the basis of running switch 1 games better alone
Digital Foundry seem 100% convinced Switch 2 is happening this year for what it’s worth. We know the dev kits have been out there for ages as well.
I desperately want a Super Switch ™️
I don't know if it will be released this year, but they have to announce it. The pressure is too high now.
- ok, Counter-prediction: Because there is such a high demand for it, the Pokemon Company has cancelled & removed any internal plans for Legends Kyurem, and possibly the entire Legends game-line
- I'm still disappointed Nintendo stopped updating New Horizons after adding The Roost, that game needs so much more post-launch content... maybe even fix the stupid decision & let you store multiple Islands per system
- i would LOVE if Nintendo used this as an excuse to fully redesign the JOYcons & add back the Sensor bar on the Switch 2 Dock, but they will use the excuse of "Backwards compatibility issue" to keep the same crappy ones we have now
- no idea why Capcom is missing out on making a Megaman Treasure Collection that includes all 3 Legends games, the Legends 3 Demo, & all the missing Spin-offs, yall are missing out on Maverick Hunter X
15:10 please Nintendo 😢
What if Metroid Prime 4 is fully VR?
Not to sound rude, because I don't intend to, but a VR exclusive MP4 would be taking a niche series and releasing it to a niche/enthusiast market, essentially ensuring it the lowest possible audience.
Ocarina of time remake would be amazing for launch of Switch 2 and Mario Kart 9(vs Sonic/double dash)

I 100% agree with everything Alex has to say up until about the 4 min mark
now that there is that new cartridge hack thingy they are gonna have to figure out their anti piracy method before the switch 2 can be a thing

I mean, compared to 2023, it will be hard to compete. So many epic games! Excited to see what the Switch 2 is all about. Cheers and rock on!
I've thought for a long time Nintendo should go the "platform" route like cell phones.
People upgrade their cell phones every ~3 years because because the latest and greatest are better and smoother and have some new features, but with a few exceptions software is not locked to a hardware model--it works on any prior device, within reason.
So *most* Switch 2 games would work on the Switch 1, but they'd just be much better on Switch 2. If the game you want to play runs like garbage on Switch 1, that just means you need to upgrade--this is something casual users are accustomed to for their phones, computers, TVs, etc., so it wouldn't be difficult to get people to understand the new paradigm for game consoles. It'd also give Nintendo a software ecosystem, which is something Apple and Google have that console manufacturers don't really have, resetting after each console generation.
Let's not ask for more planned obsolescence in the tech world please
@@cyberneticfish8086 Uhh, what I'm talking about is exactly the opposite of planned obsolescence. You keep your original Switch for as long as you want and only upgrade when you need to.
The existing console paradigm is once the Switch 2 comes out,, your old Switch is basically abandoned, only good for playing old games and nothing new.
Probably not gonna happen, but I would love to see a remake of Link to the Past, akin to what Nintendo did with Link's Awakening.
As someone who still believes that OoT is the best Zelda game, I absolutely felt Zion when the possibility of a remake was mentioned.
I will take one Windwaker port please
If they added Pokemon Gens 1 and 2 to Switch Online, I'd be all set for 2024!

The switch is such a great, versatile console. The only way really I can see where it needs improvement is in its performance but thats literally all I can think of. I love the design of the switch, with the joy cons and such so it will be interesting to see where nintendo go next in terms of hardware.
New console with brand new 3d Mario, Metroid Prime 4 and F-Zero Xtreme to release in November.
