What To Expect From The Nintendo Switch 2

  • Recently theres been a bunch of rumours floating around about a sequel to the Nintendo Switch launching in 2024. From factory leaks to anonymous insiders to the… WORST mockup I've ever seen.
    But things have been ramping up A LOT recently, with Nintendo apparently showing the new console to game companies behind closed doors at events, and even showing graphics similar to current gen consoles.
    What i wanna do is take all the real rumours, and use them to help create an accurate prediction for the switch 2
    For the past 4 years the biggest part of reports and leaks has been 4K support, and it seems Nintendo will be doing it in their own… special way.
    Nintendo likes to keep things cheap, so rather than do all that HEAVY processing that a ps5 would to make something 4k, it's going to use something called DLSS. Essentially, it runs the game in 1080p, then uses AI to upscale it to a much crisper image.
    Subscribe for more!
    This will be done thanks to the help of Nvidia, who actually make the chips for the current switches. I can definitely see them being on good terms with Nintendo after the success of the switch,(animation for NVIDIA to chip to in switch to insane sales) so it makes sense that they would partner up again and this time create a custom chip for the switch 2.

    The problem with the colored buttons in your render is that the joycons used alone would have the button colors in the incorrect spots. [Single joycons are used on their sides with the flat end facing up giving your index fingers access to the shoulder buttons in the rail] When you say "press red" for one player that would be the Northern button [traditional X button] and for the other player, it would be the Southern button [traditional B button]

    • @IceBlueLugia
      @IceBlueLugia 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +30

      That’s the point. The games would say Press “image of a red circle” for example so you’d just press the corresponding color instead of worrying about the letter or symbol

    • @goSciuKM
      @goSciuKM 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +30

      @@IceBlueLugia Yes, but the coloring in his model is incorrect. Imagine you turn those JoyCons to their side, like on current ones (stick has to be under left thumb). On right JoyCon, going clockwise, starting from top button, you'd have: green - blue - red - yellow. On left JoyCon, starting from top and going clockwise, you'd have: red - yellow - green - blue. Quite a different layout and would mean, when game tells you the button's color, half of people would press different buttons than the other half

    • @IceBlueLugia
      @IceBlueLugia 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@goSciuKM True, it’d create confusion in some situations. And some games would be harder to play. For example, if on the right joycon, when playing Mario, yellow (left) is run and red (down) is jump, if you kept the assignments the same then the left player would be hitting the top and right buttons instead
      What might work better is just rotating the colors so they match when sideways but are mismatched when displayed normally.
      Or maybe, they could have it so that the color assignments are displayed next to each player so they could be different without issue. Though that may just be clunky and overcomplicated if someone was trying to pass a joycon to someone new. I think accepting the color mismatch (or going with 4 different colors on the left) is the best move tbh

      They could always do a controller with LED/RGB buttons, so that when it’s in joy con mode instead of handheld, the colors would switch to the how it’s supposed to be. Plus the RGB buttons could be affected by different games, but that might be asking too much of Nintendo lol my original suggestion would’ve been oh just switch the joystick placement with the dpad so it can be turned the same way, but then I forgot about the bumpers lol

    I think that the speakers in the bottom of the joycons maybe wouldn't be the best idea as your hands would typically cover the speakers as unlike the wii controller, the switch controllers are small and unless the switch 2 were to have significantly larger joycons the speakers would end up being muffled

    The biggest issue Nintendo will face in bringing up the graphics would be cooling and heat. Simple, they could vastly increase the power of the Switch if it had an intensive cooling system directly on the CPU. The dock provides a PERFECT opportunity for Nintendo to address this issue. I wonder if they'll ever think of the Dock as being the graphics side of the system, while the device itself is still portable.

    DLSS 2.0 can only be added by the developers themselves and wouldn't be compatible with older switch games (unless specifically added in/updated for switch 2). It requires motion vectors to help the AI anticipate what will be in the following frames and prevent really brutal latency issues.

    • @mee7er
      @mee7er 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I’d assume older switch games would get a minor bump from the processing power increase (better framerates, 1080p)
      Then there would be a lot of double dipping from developers rereleasing their titles with 4k, dlss, ray tracing and a little extra content for full price.

    The IR scanner can be improved by moving it upward somewhere on the controller near the L and R buttons and having another IR built on the top bezel of the switch 2 so it points directly at it when playing games, this would help so many games properly replicate the wii motion controls, the reason why many games don’t have proper motion is because they rely on the Gyro motion and not actual IR like the wii

    The wireless dock one is pretty good for an idea but if it’s the case the console itself would let you get more than 1 cartridge slot instead of the actual dock and it would let you play miitopia or tomodachi life just like it was in the 3DS era if it had the double screen feature

    At 01:38 you say 'They could run a game at low resolution, and use AI to upscale it to 1080p, which would increase the battery life and performance'. I find that hard to believe since AI upscaling, epsecially at that speed (you don't want lag) will take up more energy compared to standard upscaling since AI looks at every single frame, interprets it and rerenders it. Doing that in a couple of microseconds is possible, but it would take a lare amount of energy.

I don’t know why the Wii U gets so much unnecessary hate, it’s a really underrated console and plays Wii games too but using the Wii U’s hardware to play them faster, hell the Gamepad has a fucking IR Sensor for the Wii Remote. Plus, the Wii U has a really good library (-2 games). I understand it sold poorly but I’ve made it my mission to spread the good word of the Wii U. ZL and ZR are still digital triggers but the L and R buttons are analog.

Your phone could act as the second screen and recieve video from the switch through an app, which would circumvent the battery problems you mentioned it would have.
    I think it could work because what would be put on your phone would be non-essential, an in-game map or social features like you said, but nothing that can't be acessed without it, aside from ds games or maybe some games in mario party or something like that.

Again I hate to fall back on Apple but they only use MiniLED in their “Pro” devices and not all of them cause they supply is not there and the cost is too much. IMO MiniLED is brighter than OLED but I feel like would consume more power as well so lot that great for a smaller handheld were efficiency matters more than peak brightness.

    ... It's a very far fetched idea, and would raise the costs which Nintendo probably wouldn't do. Especially since it wouldn't be valued by a lot of casual players or much at all even by players more enthusiastic about the idea. But I think it's an interesting concept regardless. It would also be cool to see re-releases of gamecube and wii titles for the console.

    What To Expect From The Nintendo Switch 2 ? Let me guess... Not much and a lack of new fresh game and variety? No kidding but the first Nintendo Switch exist since 6 years ago and since 6 years we doesn't get any new game or remastered about Star Fox and Kid Icarus, we just get 2 Metroid games and without any life sound from Metroid Prime 4 which have been announced there was 6 years ago with somes official informations who come from Nintendo mouth and not from somes rumour or leak like if they officially confirm a online mode for somes deathmatch between players or a co-op mode for the main story, just one SNES Rom Hack port to the Switch about F-Zero with 99 players instead be a 3D new game or a 3D remastered like if the Switch was too weak for create a 3D game for F-Zero, one new Pikmin game while the 3 others was port and the Mario Kart fan and Donkey Kong fan never get any new fresh game who doesn't smell the almost 10 years ago "Wii U" port or the GBA remake of Mario Vs Donkey Kong to the Switch.
    And meanwhile we get a lot of grab money game release every years with more than 10 Pokemon games, 5 Fire Emblem games and 6 Kirby games on the Switch since 6 years while a part of the Mario game on the Switch was somes old Wii U, 3DS, Wii, GCN and N64 port and sold to a hight price like if those game never exist before like Super Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy from 3D All-Stars despite we know their story like Paper Mario TTYD who gonna be release this years when we know Peach is possessed by the Shadow Queen at the end of the game as the final boss or the two endings for Mario vs Donkey Kong or Luigi finally realize in the final mansion from Luigi's Mansion 2 that King Boo have captured Mario in a paint again.
    So too bad the new Nintendo without Iwata just care about Mario, Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Kirby while they don't really care about their others serie. I don't understand why people feel so excited for this console who gonna have a poor choice of game variety. Plus what the point to buy their next console exactly? Just for have the best graphic on a next gen console but you get in exchange a lot of old game port from the previous console that you have already played before but on a modern console and the same grab money game to be release every years while Nintendo don't gonna do anything for their others serie? For real who gonna be so d*mb like a f*ck for buy this jokes just for mainly play the same grab money game and somes old game port seriously?

    No offense to the creator, I like the concept, but I noticed some ideas in the concept that wouldn't work well, so I wanted to talk about it:

    1:36 This is very unlikely as rendering at 1080p requires too much processing power (even with DLSS) to be significant enough for Nintendo, so they probably go with 900p for more battery life and performance in the handheld (or rather use the power for 90hz).
    5:17 The idea is definitely not bad, but if you use it like the a, b, x, y buttons, you'll probably tend to mis-click the buttons, while the "d-pad" doesn't feel much better.
    5:33 You do realise that there's not much room at the top for the adaptive triggers, right, and since your mockup isn't really bigger than the OG switch, it's not going to fit (and especially not the adaptive triggers).
    The solution to both problems could be solved by
    1. If they make the Pro Controller split like the Hori Gamecube controller, so you can attach it in handheld mode.
    2. Making split pads for handheld mode with enough space.
    3. Make the Joy-Cons bigger (but without a real d-pad)
    5:48 The idea isn't that bad, but you notice that the spot is blocked by your hands most of the time in handheld mode, so you can't hear them very well, if they sound good at all (not just because of the speaker, but also because of the capabilities of bluetooth - remember how bad they sounded on the Wii btw), and it's inconsistent, since the sound only works in TV mode and without voice chat (and additional speakers, while handheld mode is probably not that necessary either).
    6:40 It's obvious this is definitely not coming (my theory), we'll have to wait and see if they stick to the strategy of keeping streaming apps away so parents don't start comparing it to an iPad.
    8:26 F*ck no, if a PS portal can't keep a smooth connection with a PS5 connected via ethernet, this thing is definitely not going to have a stable connection, probably even less stable than the Wii U gamepad, worse quality and a battery life of 20 minutes as it needs to render 2 screens, not to mention the input lag between the TV and the console. The OG switch already consumes power in TV mode while still underclocked (at least less than in handheld mode, if I'm not mistaken), so this is definitely NOT a good idea.
    Again no offence to the creator just my opinion on some of the ideas of this concept.

    The dock storage system can also function as a second game card slot. This can make it so you can switch between games without removing a card.
    RGB Buttons. This would also include a menu to change them. And by pressing a button, can automatically access the menu. And by holding that down, would cycle through without opening any menus at all.
    Programmable buttons. These can be programmed as buttons to change between tv and switch (Like the Wii U!), restart, turn on/off 4k upscaling, and more.
    A disk drive on the dock, So it can play Wii U games, and Wii Games.
    A dev kit, so you can ask Nintendo for one, wait 5 years, then get yours. So people can develop games.
    Cellular Service, so you can add it to your cell plan and play offline.

    You forgot the massive joystick problem; it needs to have hall-effect based sticks for the best life expectancy or else we'll see another drift issue. There's many new devices in the mobile space that already use hall-effect sensors, and Nintendo already knows about this particular problem, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn't IMO

    Speculation for technical specification:
    - Backwards compatibility, but unlike 3DS, it also works with digital games as well.
    - Screen resolution: Handheld: 1440p OLED display. TV: Up to 4K (8K with upscaling)
    - CPU: 8.2 tflops
    - RAM: 8GB
    - Memory: 256GB
    - Good NVidia DLSS for 4K output
    - The console should be as powerful as any modern console, such as XBOX Series S, PS5 and Steam Deck, so it would better run older Switch games and third-party games, including the ones that are on the first Switch, increasing their fps and resolution (the example games are: Madden, FIFA, 2K, GTA, Red Dead, CP2077, Need for Speed and any first-party compilation that features 4-5 games)

    I don’t think replacing the IR camera is a good idea. The switch 2 should be 100% backwards compatible even on the most minor and insignificant stuff. I think it should instead be relocated to the front so we can bring back IR aiming like on the Wii. This would be great for motion aiming

    0:35 correction, the PS5 also uses upscaling to achieve “4K” in most games.

    Press Red: He Presses the bottom button because his controller is rotated by 90 drgrees. Thats exact the same even with colors instead of letters.

    I found it funny that you said about the colored buttons being more easy to understand for new players...and then you had the colors be the exact same on both joycons which would probably make it that much more confusing...
