Our adventure begins early in the morning as we set out for Ophir Pass, a high-altitude gem hidden within the San Juan Mountains. This is a trail that has taunted my imagination for years, and the anticipation is palpable as we approach the trailhead. The rugged terrain and the sheer grandeur of the mountains surrounding us create an instant sense of wonder.
Ophir Pass, with its challenging switchbacks and steep ascents, is not for the faint of heart. The adrenaline rush as we navigate through rocky obstacles and navigate the tight turns is exhilarating. The trail tests both the capabilities of our offroading vehicles and our nerve, but the reward is well worth it. As the day unfolds, we transition seamlessly from Ophir Pass to the iconic Imogene Pass, a trail that's been on my bucket list for years. The anticipation builds as we ascend to higher elevations, feeling the thin air and marveling at the jagged peaks that surround us. Imogene Pass stands as one of Colorado's highest and most challenging offroad trails, but it's also one of the most rewarding.
