    Wow, very simple & straight to point! Thank you! I just got my kit to do this myself. No sense in paying thousands of dollars for what I can do myself in a few hours or less. My E90 328i is a very easy car to DIY for the most part as I've almost restored the car myself & with a few extra hands here & there. You earned a like & new subscriber! Cheers! 🍻

    If I’m just draining it and refilling it how do I fill it up

    • @pelicanparts

      See figure 4 here: www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/techarticles/BMW-3-Series-E90/TRANS-Automatic_Trans_Fluid_Replacing/TRANS-Automatic_Trans_Fluid_Replacing.htm
      Remove 16mm fill plug, green arrow point to fill plug location. Fill transmission with same amount of fluid that was drained from it. This photo shows the fill plug on a GA6L45R transmission. On other models the fill plug is located on the side of the transmission. Start engine, then apply parking brake, hold your foot on brake pedal and shift transmission through all gears. This with circulate transmission fluid. Place transmission selector in Park, then remove fluid fill plug. Monitor transmission as it reaches a temperature of 100° F. You can check this with an infrared temperature gauge. If a small stream of fluid runs out of fill plug, fluid level is correct. If no fluid runs out, add oil until it starts to run out. Reinstall fill plug and tighten once complete. I suggest driving car, then allowing it to cool and rechecking fluid level. Now here's a tip, once you have filled the transmission with the same amount of fluid drained the level should be close to what it was. Start engine, move gear selector as noted above. With the transmission fluid still cold and fluid fill plug removed, monitor the temperature and fluid flow at fill plug. When the fluid warms up it will expand and should run out of fill plug, if it does not, add fluid until it starts to run out. Install fill plug and repeat once vehicle is cool. Check fluid temperature using a temp gun. 30: 50°C (86: 122°F) Aim for the center of the transmission pan then check temperature this way. The ideal way is to check fluid temp using a BMW scan tool, but not all of us have access to one. Place transmission in Park. Remove fill plug. A small amount of fluid should stream out of fill hole. This indicates the level is correct. If it doesn't stream out, fill fluid until it does. Once you reach desired capacity, drive vehicle and repeat level checking procedure.

      Honestly, when replacing, just replace it. Unless you are flushing.

    There should be a class action lawsuit against BMW (& other manufacturers) for saying that the transmission fluid doesn’t get changed because that’s total crap (like my transmission). My 2009 BMW 1 series 128i convertible has transmission issues and only 116k miles. The previous owner never changed the fluid per BMW and now it shudders in 4th & 5th gears when I drive it in full automatic mode. If I manually shift it drives fine with no shudder.
    If there has been a schedule to change the fluid and the previous owner had it done this most likely wouldn’t be a problem. Now I’m screwed with a transmission that is not going to last very long. It’s a crime to not have a schedule to maintain it. I read up on this and found that there is no coolant flush, or trans flush, or diff flush or fuel filter that is scheduled by BMW. That’s criminal on the part of BMW. No wonder BMWs have so many issues. I’m sick of auto makers misinforming customers on these maintenance issues. BMW should be forced to either replace transmissions that have issues like mine or replace the entire car. Won’t ever buy another BMW ever again. And good luck selling my car without replacing the transmission!!

    Proper way to remove the strainer seal?

    • @pelicanparts
      @pelicanparts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually gently pull it out with a small seal puller. You can also use a hook or pick, just be very careful not to scratch the sealing surface.
