He replaced the bassist, Randy Meisner (also from Poco), one of the founding members of the Eagles/ Linda Ronstadt's backup band, who was the lead vocalist on "Take It To The Limit". He left during the Hotel California tour, when, to to health issues & angst over being separated from his family, he felt unable to perform the very challenging vocals of Take It.., & ended getting into an intense confrontation w/ the late Glenn Frey, who demanded that he perform the piece anyway. I think I may have seen one of (if not, the last) his last performances when I attended their concert at Chicago Stadium in Oct.of '77. By that point, they had taken on Don Felder & Joe Walsh, but had lost another founding member, Bernie Leadon, the banjo-picker, who had given the group their early country sound. Henley's the only original member left w/ the group, although Bernie & Randy haven't "slipped the surly bonds" yet.
You know you're one hell of a band when your drummer, guitarist, or in this case, bass player can take lead vocals and have a hit. Timothy's voice is smoooooth on this track. I agree with you. Not being able to react to their music is a travesty. This is a true gem you've found. Thanks, Jay!

They're just so exact and perfect! I love this band so much. Makes me sad that Glenn Frey died though. Such a great legend forever gone. Also, the guy singing is their bass player. His name is Timothy B. Schmitt. While he is not one of the originals to the band he has been with them for 40 years! Glen Frey has pretty much always been considered the "lead singer" of the band even though many of them had hits from singing too. The whole entire band is exceptionally talented.

The Eagles are really the last of my truly wanted bucket list groups. Back when CDs first came out I had a cassette of the greatest hits. It was blue with the eagle skull. When CDs came out I was able to get a 24k gold CD. It was freakin awesome. The guy singing the main vocals 0n this one is Timothy Schmitt. He was the second bass player the band had. He still is a member along with Joe Walsh, Don Henley, formerly Glenn Frey RIP, Glenn Fret’s son Deacon has joined the band and it’s awesome. And my fellow Okie Vince Gill has joined the band recently. The guy who plays the guitar solo is former member Don Felder. He shortly rejoined the Eagles for the Hell Freezes Over tour but left again.

Timothy also performed with Poco as bassist and vocalist. Love this song and his voice. I saw The Eagles in the late 70's, it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

The Eagles are really the last of my truly wanted bucket list groups. Back when CDs first came out I had a cassette of the greatest hits. It was blue with the eagle skull. When CDs came out I was able to get a 24k gold CD. It was freakin awesome. The guy singing the main vocals 0n this one is Timothy Schmitt. He was the second bass player the band had. He still is a member along with Joe Walsh, Don Henley, formerly Glenn Frey RIP, Glenn Fret’s son Deacon has joined the band and it’s awesome. And my fellow Okie Vince Gill has joined the band recently. The guy who plays the guitar solo is former member Don Felder. He shortly rejoined the Eagles for the Hell Freezes Over tour but left again.
Felder didn't leave but wasn't asked to return because he sued The Eagles for full band rights

Glad you found out what some of us older guys have been listening too for a long time. I was a teenager when this came out and my wife and I just saw them recently in Atlanta. They still sound magical. Hard to beat the Eagles!
