  • How to cut the wooden legs to lower my workbench. I cannot put the workbench shelf apart, so I use a circular saw jig to cut the wooden legs in the middle. Then I drill holes to glue some wood dowels to join both parts of the workbench.

    Fantastic idea, mate👍
    Makes life so much easier having the two benches at the same height.
    Nice use of home made jigs 👌

    This is crazy. Just cut the top or bottom of your legs - not the middle. Unscrew the top then cut the top of the legs, then screw the top back on. Or do the same thing from the bottom and adjust the shelf. I'm happy that you got your tables the same height- that's a good idea. But the rest of it is bananas.

      Hi rob. A lot of people commented about this 😅. The thing is that the horizontal pieces (aprons?) are also glued to the legs, so I decided to cut the legs in the middle. Otherwise sure I would unscrew the the top or the bottom part. But anyway for me it was nice to see how precise can I be cutting the legs this way. The end result was much better than expected 😃.

    Kudos on such really great videos!
    I especially like the fact that you give ALL the details of what you are doing! So many of the TH-cam videos give only a small amount of information and that leaves us dummies out in the dark!
    I really like how you used the dowels! They can be VERY useful for many things and the fact that you left room for alignment shows the integrity and intelligence of what you did!
    THANKS, AGAIN for all that you do for us novices to woodworking. I know that some of the pros will also, like you jigs and ideas!
    Best wishes!

      Thank you very much Kim. We all hate misaligned wooden joints :(. Drilling holes some wider than the dowels helps to get things aligned. Not the most perfect and professional job, but in this case it is good enough :D

    Fantastic video. I would have botched the dowels on an epic level. I probably wouldn't even have tried lol. Maybe make the cuts and skinned the legs together with plywood and glue on all for sides.

    I'd have probably used 4 smaller diameter dowels in each leg that I had the correct drill for. Because the dowels were so loose it would be better to use a glue designed for filling gaps and/or put screws perpendicular through the legs and dowels, effectively making cross dowels.

    • @WoodworkingwithDIYtools
      @WoodworkingwithDIYtools  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like that glue that fills the gaps. The dowels are loose, but because I use a lot of glue they won't be loose inside the holes. And after the glue dried I can say I got very hard joints 😃

    Those legs look like it could be removed easily. Wouldn't it be easy to just take them out and cut them to size? It would save you a lot of time n trouble . Plus it would be much more steady.

    • @WoodworkingwithDIYtools

      Actually all parts are glued, so I thought it would be easier to cut a portion in the middle instead of dismantling all the work table

  • @danharold3087
    @danharold3087 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only remaining problem is keeping the work table clear so it can be used as an outfeed.

    Why not just cut the legs off?

    • @WoodworkingwithDIYtools
      @WoodworkingwithDIYtools  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because I would have the shelf almost in the floor. And when I made the workbench I glued the strips that hold the shelf to the legs :(

    You could have put a line from corner to corner for center finding

    • @WoodworkingwithDIYtools
      @WoodworkingwithDIYtools  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but it is not very important to cut exactly the centre of the legs. The most important part is to cut exactly the same length in all the legs :)
