oh!! So glad you found this and it was helpful - I made a free course on differentiation of self that expands on this a bit that might be helpful too www.mypeoplepatterns.com/differentiation-of-self
It's a total game changer- I'm making a few more on these and am making it the theme of my newsletter, so no doubt TH-cam will be loading up your page with more videos on this :)
That’s so exciting to read. Thank you for sharing and so glad the video found you. I just posted another Bowen video somewhere on here if you want to dive even deeper
This is a very helpful video explaining differentiation. I really appreciate the thoughtful way you explained the different parts of differentiation, as well as the examples you shared. I will definitely share!
Ooooh -I'll have to do a video on Bowen and addiction for you! Thank you so much for writing this btw - it's very kind of you and has made my Friday :)
Thank you for this. Really getting into your videos. Differentiation really gets to me as a bed rock of most presentations to therapy. I get why it’s important in the first session, as stated in one of your videos. But how to get this very important tool in at first session starts to give directions in a skilled manner. Just finished an unsuccessful work with a very enmeshed family. I have a lot to learn.
That's me 😢😢 (second case). Which I was fully aware it when I was young not as a grown adult and understood the hard way. And, how to fully and permanently resolved it 24/7 its the issue, still. I am the only one in the family like that.
What a great question- you must really be a doctor! I don’t know if I’ve got a way to “measure” but I’d assess for lower levels of reactivity, more solid sense of self (I statements) more tangible statements about personal values and guiding principles, and the ability to hold conflicting feelings, and have thoughts about those feelings. There might be a whole other video on this :)

Excellent video! As a clinician how do you measure the achievement of the solid boundaries in those 4 areas?

There's a new page and mini-course on Differentiation of Self here: www.mypeoplepatterns.com/differentiation-of-self
Values and guiding principles? The Bible and process of sanctification; however, spiritual things are spiritually appraised.
Ah. Sure, your values and guiding principles could come from the Bible, or any spiritual text, but preferably from within your Self.

Fractured and leads to lessening of empathy. Jesus wept.
What does that even mean?
