My old Beetle story - When I became driving age my mom had a 5-speed Camry and I begged her to teach me to drive it. I could shift the gears once I was moving, but I had trouble taking off smoothly (or stalling) from a start until a family friend let me practice in his Beetle. We just drove around the neighborhood starting and stopping until I figured it out. I love the sound of those old Beetles.
This is truthfully one of the better ones you guys have done of late. LOVED it. Also, kudos for outputting the amount you guys do.... it’s mind blowing... I can barely get one out every two weeks... would love to connect and just hear out your process and stuff. Next month tho I have a vehicle every 6 days..... no idea what I’m gonna do if I just keep to my normal posting schedule.
I'm glad this murderous car is almost gone. An original one (old beetle) had a parking brake that failed and almost took out my baby sister when we were growing up....seriously though, it is a bit sad to see an icon be temporarily retired. A RWD electric manual version is totally doable and sounds amazing!
Still, please don’t. My first car, as well as current one is a Beetle-straight 5 gasser, and now a tdi. I love the car because it’s still a (sub)compact *car* with its own unique look. Maybe make a Gti crossover
I just got a 2014 Beetle (same generation) and damn this wolfsburg final version looks so nice. It's such an iconic car, I hope they bring it back some day. RIP Beetle.
Beetles and *COFFEE* ??? They coulda done much better. Beetles and Breakfast, Beetles and Brunch, Beetles and Bagles, Beetles and Bacon, Beetles and Yeetles.
I’ve got one. It’s great. The R line has the GTI engine as well, but iirc the GSR has stiffer suspension and a few other performance features that the r line doesn’t have
shut your face! Nah. The R Line and the GSR and essentially the same vehicle (engine, the sportier suspension) only difference was the paint color, badging and gear shift lever. I have an R Line and did hella research because I didn’t want that paint job of the GSR. Lol
That steering wheel is straight out of my 2010 GTI. The simplicity of it is wonderful, drove around an Alltrack with the new style and it doesn't feel nearly as simple or easy to use.
My fiancee bought a 2018 Beetle Dune in the Sandstorm Yellow colour because she heard rumors that the beetle was no longer being made. She's pretty happy she got it and it's actually a great car
Heyyyy straightpipes!! Y’all make amazing reviews! And as always your exterior rolling shots are amazing! Also please review the 2019 golf GTI rabbit in cornflower blue please!!!!
My first car was a 1974 british racing green Super Beetle. Indestructible. Had a bad muffler, a shot steering gear ($85 wholesale + $110 to install it in 1982) and a blown head gasket. It ran for 6 years. LOL! It had a sunroof and only left me stranded after a crooked mechanic screwed up the brakes so they didn't release after a few uses. Probably wouldn't go as far to say I regret not having it, but it was almost a right of passage in my day. Nice video guys. I hope you got to drive the '78 convertible that was in the background.
Great video, guys. I'm the proud new owner of the beige hardtop with the style packing (including "those amazing wheels") and I couldn't be happier with it. For what it's worth, I'm 6'2" and my knee doesn't hit the steering column. I guess it's all in seat positioning.
Hey straight pipes, loved the vid and I’ve come across afew of your vids of older cars and I love BMW’s so can u guys please try and review a BMW E46 M3 (I don’t mind if u review a regular E46 M3 or M3 CSL Cos both are awesome cars and I promise you’ll love them) or a BMW E39 M5, with it’s awesome sleeper looks but that unsuspecting V8. Keep up the good work guys👍🏽
I have a 2012 Turbo which has the 2.0 4 cylinder engine with 200 HP. It is a little rocket on the highway with the turbo. Extremely fun to drive as a daily driver. Just maintain them with regular tune ups and they'll last you.
JustinJS Way up in the northeast corner of PA, off I-81 - just before crossing into NY state. My kid went to college way out in NW PA ( Bradford, PA ) - I think she said they have them out there too.
My second car was a '61 Beetle with a folding sunroof. (My first was a '54 Kaiser with a back seat large enough for two teenagers to lie down in. :) ) The Beetle met its end when it threw a rod through the engine block on a trip from Oklahoma to Chicago. Nevertheless, happy memories.
Sad to see this car go. I had a 2004 VW Beetle Turbo S that was lime green that was fast as hell. After it was chipped was the prefect sleeper. Best part of the car was the lifestyle package which but the lime green into the leather with a center panel and green stitching on the black leather, also had green inserts between the spokes of the wheels which made it a very unique vehicle around town.
I love cars that are unique. This convertible in this combination is really nice especially at this price! C’mon, $30,000?! Great value. Btw Yuri and Jakob, you CAN get the safari beige on pepper beige/titan black interior. It’s a great cruising car, and I don’t give a s... about the hairdresser/girlie car comments. It’s a CAR with loads of personality and style which is fun. To each his own!
That Dune Buggy was the Meyer’s Manx. Great show! Lets all hope the bug returns...I still wish I still had my ‘74 Uber Beetle...the lower fascia on the 2019 Beetle almost looks like a grab off the later 911’s...
Lots of fun memories in a beetle from about 17 years ago. My cousin had one of the old style ones from Mexico, and he was the cool older person who drove me and my high school friends all over the place. I remember cramming people into the back seat of that thing, and the lack of windshield defrosting, and the heat only coming through some weird vents just under the doors (which could get clogged with leaves), and the crazy loud rear engine. You didn’t even need a tach because you got used to the vibrations under your ass telling you when to shift.
the beetle is eh, but you guys make anything enjoyable to watch....any chance you guys are planning to release a review on the alfa romeo giulia by the new year? on the fence about getting one and I have until Jan 2nd to snag it...if not no worries, i'll still be tuned in :)
Omitting the roll-down windows on the coupe is an epic fail by VW, IMO...Thanks both of you for all the fun and entertainment you've given us this year!
Good review. Also, don't go to a public library to look at Consumer Reports magazines. The Beetle, Wrangler, and Mini Cooper do not score well for reliability surveys, even though many like the looks and how the Mini Cooper handles. My choice is a cheaper hardtop for a more reliable model from a different company, and a motorcycle with a lot more of a convertible view and wind feel.
The Beetle had a cool version for rally competitions, there was no street version of it to profit from the victories. It could have been the sports car from VW. A manual version with a punchy boxer engine would have been amazing. Today if the company wants to sell it, they have to say that is an SUV or a CUV. Congratulations guys on bringing good vibes on a car where evolution showed that wrong choices are harmful. There is no other car that started as close to a 911 than the Beatle. One is the car that every car enthusiast loves, the other one could have been the one that everyone bought, but it went on directions that brought its life to an end. Which is fine. Happy Holidays! ;o)
Since its being sold in the USA, I would think of it as more throwback to the 1979 VW Beetle convertible which was the last of the old Beetle sold in the USA. The Mexican Beetles were unknown to most Americans.
Personally I think the bettle will come back as a hybrid hatchback as that’s a chance for vw to fill in a market they’re not present in. Hybrid for the future!
Ha you saw our fire damage. Thats one fire out of many, the vast acreage of devastation is jaw dropping. Here's hoping that cliche corner never turns into Mordor.

I think manual and electric dont fit together 🤣
I was “conceived” in a 1971 Super Beetle, or so am I told.

Thanks straight pipes for this energetic review! Thank you for enlightening my day with the love for the beetle.
In Brazil, we had a Beetle with the Golf GTI drive train. It was amazing!!
2014 Beetle GSR. We had it too. Didn't sell well.
I’ve got one. It’s great. The R line has the GTI engine as well, but iirc the GSR has stiffer suspension and a few other performance features that the r line doesn’t have

Gabriel Calazans Franco it sure is! Have it in the states and it’s a true sleeper.
We've got Tim Horton's in Minnesota. But Minnesota is the Canada of the United States so I guess it makes sense
I'm starting to believe that piano black is a bad texture for cars. Thanks haha

The best car review channel.
That steering wheel is straight out of my 2010 GTI. The simplicity of it is wonderful, drove around an Alltrack with the new style and it doesn't feel nearly as simple or easy to use.
Had a ‘68. Loved it. Now I have a 2012. Hopefully the Beetle will be back and still affordable!!!!

That's funny, I thought the cross shopped car would be a Mini for sure. Also, the power symbol for the radio turning with the knob would drive nuts.
The steering wheel buttons are the same as on my 2010 Passat wagon. Switching back and forth with my 2018 Golf, I'm now confused in either car.
Finally I see a visor pass your test and now know what it is.
